I just noticed the gun forum I'm on in NC has one. Seems like it's been pretty useful to members there.
I've seen people asking "what's X worth?" in the general discussion area, and people posting random, somewhat reasonable numbers for their item in the Trading Post because they're not sure of its value. I myself am not 100% sure what a rifle I currently have listed is really worth, and have it listed with "OBO" in case I have it over (or under) priced.
I think that given the amount of seriously knowledgeable people here, like BPtactical and Bailey Guns, something like this would serve to benefit our members here, especially given the fact that a dollar value is required to be posted with anything for sale or trade.

Mods, what say ye?
Horrible idea with the low balling bastards here who will turn around and sell it the next day for a higher price.
Just my opinion.

Its easy enough for me to block the trading post for you so you don't have to look at all the bad deals. It would be no problem at all for me I promise. One simple button, I'm just sayin...just let me know
OP it's a descent idea but I honestly don't see it being busy enough to warrant having a separate forum for it. If there were 2 or 3 posts a wek in the General Discussion it might be something to look at but probably not right now

Makes sense. Then again, we have a subforum for the Western Slope guys that's had less than a dozen threads in it ever, and a shotgun-specific subforum that hasn't been posted in in almost a month, and it doesn't seem like the knife subforum is super-active either.
I don't think it'd just be used by people trying to sell, either. I have a buddy who inherited a beautiful engraved matching rifle and shotgun set from his grandpa and has no idea what it's worth... I'm sure there are others in similar situations. My home insurance coveres firearms and I had to give them a seat-of-the-pants ballpark value for coverage in that category.
If yall are completely against it, I won't push it, but I think it'd be a pretty useful thing for everybody.

Reality is it is only worth what somebody is willing to pay.
That being said with our items there are way too many variables to accurately appraise an item sight unseen.
Best bet, look and see what comparable items are selling for on GB, Armslist etc. Note I said what they are selling for, not what they are listed at.

Good points, but Bert also has some good points.
With all of that being said if another admin wants to add another forum we can discuss it
I'd rather add an auction type area. For those popular or hard to find items. You know, the ones that are really worth whatever someone is willing to pay. Maybe you could call it "make me an offer."

Ha. Didn't figure everyone would agree with me.
the "What's it worth" sub-forum might be an interesting idea, just don't put it in the gun section. If someone might be knowledgeable on paintings, or cars, antiques - the forum might help figure things out. I've got a few hand-me-down shotguns/rifles that I want to know their worth, but don't know where to start. I have some old metal chunks I found with a metal detector and don't know wtf they are. The forum might help some.

You can already ask that kind of stuff in the general section. Not sure it really needs its own sub forum.
Seems you and I are just going to disagree on some stuff I guess.
Nice weather up here in your neck of the woods today.
Beats the other places I've been recently.

I would just post in the General if I ever got off my ass and took pictures.
What are you doing up here? PM me and we can grab a beer.

I wish. I was just working up there for the day.
Maybe next time I ride up that way for lunch at Shadows or Sanford's I can hit you up.

Wow. Some of the replies here are out of control.
I like the idea of the new section.
Sent from my teepee using smoke signals.

Not that you would know anything about being out of control.

I have am idea for a sub forum.
How about one for all you anti-government, tin foil hat wearing, conspiracy theorist types.
Then you guys could post all your bullshit in there where I won't accidentally stumble across it.

Sorry. That was uncalled for.
I'm a little cranky today.
My apologies.
Oh, and big brother is watching.

A what's it worth forum ? Unless the ones who are using it have donated to the board, [I] see no reason to increase bandwidth usage. Prices are all over the place , to get an accurate "Value" you need to see what (as already mentioned) the same gun has sold for on gunchoker or other sites were the sold price is available.
Sure you have $200 in bolt on items (retail) does that mean your Stag A2. with MOE handguards, is worth $1800, when 3 different LGS' have them in stock for $899?
All of mine are priceless.
Hence your signature...

Not sure about Shadows, but Sanford's...definitely worth a ride. Push it on up to Spearfish to the original location - even better.
