View Full Version : In need of a Gunsmith

Hey all,
I was at the range today and my Springfield Model 1911 A1 .45 kind fell apart. (See Pics)
The little spring loaded piece between the slide lock and the safety just fell off.
I have tried to put it back but the first round I fire it just falls off again.
Can someone recommend me a good/honest Gunsmith? I am in the area of 120th and I25.
thanks,
Rob

You need to check out these guys (http://www.gunsmokeguns.com/home.html). They know 1911s like nobody else.

Call Bert, as recommended above. He has done work for me many times (even today, as a matter of fact), and his work is flawless. Just call him.

Second the call to Bert with BP Taxtial and after you are done there I would recommend taking it to https://www.ar-15.co/forums/155-Argonstrom-Design-and-Defense-Unmatched-Hand-Engraving for you engraving and polishing needs.

Both are great guys and do fantastic work and are industy partners :)

OP said he needed it fixed. Not engraved! Plunger tube fix is easy and straight forward. Heck, you may even be able to do it yourself with a good staking punch and red lock tight. Contact the afore mentioned gunsmiths... The exception being GunChoke.

Of course I was joking. I would never send anybody to GunStroke with a straight face, unless it was the IRS or a guy who would take the giraffe on a date, stay out late, make her yell about Glock Perfection during the moment of rapture, video it, and play it for Rich.

Almost looks like someone forgot to install it correctly. Not hard with the right tool.

Buy yourself one of the Ruger 1911s. The plunger tube on them is an integral part of the frame.

Or, go have Bert fix it.

Or you could buy this tool http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/handgun-tools/staking-tools/plunger-tube-staking-tool-prod9489.aspx
and this part http://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/frame-parts/frame-hardware/plunger-tubes/1911-auto-plunger-tube-prod20852.aspx
and do the job yourself.

I know somebody[pick-me]

Could be as simple as re-staking the tube or it could need a new plunger tube, can't tell until I get my eyeballs on it.
Either way I can get you back in business

Double sided sticky tape, that'll do it... Oh, but you have to sharpie the back of the tube for it to work, and only red sharpie.....

JB Weld and zip ties and you'll be good to go fr the next range trip.

Or take it to Bert and have it done right.

Please keep your eyeballs off of stuff. We don't need anymore "incidents." ;)

And yes OP, see Bert. He is like three miles from you. I have to drive clear across town!
