Does anyone else find the charging handle on the FN SCAR freaky? It comes back and forth every time it's fired, and it's right above shooter's hand. You can't do a magwell grip with them at all. How come they didn't do it like the charging handle on G3 and MP5?

I grip thumb over and hated that about the SCAR. Running the charge handle like an AK (on the left side) is too awkward for me. So I installed a PWS raiL which allows me to grip further on the rifle and having the CH clear better. Travis Haley has a video highlighting this.

SCAR is one of the only carbine I installed Vertical Rail Grip.
I do not use the competition or O/U shotgun gripping on a SCAR.
It is working out for me and my wife well.

How do you like charging that thing with an optic on it? Knuckle buster!

I never had any issue with it. I used TA31 as optic on it. There are also aftermarket options.

This is exactly what I'm going to do as well.

Simple solution. Don't run a SCAR.

One of the main purpose of having a scar was the weight advantage. Therefore, I did not install the pws ext rail.

So would you guys say LWCR M6A2 is a better investment than a FN SCAR?

bingo. most overhyped rifle if you ask me. i don't see too many advantages of it really.

In my opinion, all the SCAR is, is a piston driven AR that was designed as a piston gun from the get go. Not an aftermarket conversion. Otherwise it is very similar to an AR rifle.
I personally do not see that the SCAR is worth the extra $500 - $1000 over the AR. Everyone I've talked to that has one loves them. They perform well. But it is still just a piston AR done right.
I would buy a high end AR instead and put the extra money into a nice optic or tacticool accessories.

my .02 worth.

Only have a few rounds through it but the 17 is a pretty nice shooter and very accurate.

I don't (and probably won't ever) own one but I have shot a couple of them. The 17 is really quite nice. Probably the softest shooting .308 out there an seemed plenty accurate. The 16 on the other hand never really impressed me as offering anything more than the AR platform. I'd take two AR rifles over one SCAR 16 any day.

Hmm, I liked the SCAR. Only drawback was developing the muscle memory of shooting an M4 platform, then being given a SCAR and attempting to shoot that like an AR...pain retains. Learned real quick not to overextend my grip with my left hand.
