View Full Version : See through drywall?

I know it was put in the attic. Still have the original box. I cannot find it. I cannot get any more guidance because that relative is now gone.

Stud finders aren't a help. Metal detectors aren't effective because of nails and brackets used in construction.

Anyone have a way of seeing through dry wall?

Not sure what you're looking for.... maybe poke a whole through to put in a camera or mirror???
Hire robocop or superman to look through the wall for you?

I have a portable X-ray, but still need access to both sides of something for that.

Best bet...about 11pm at night, use a fan to blow out the attic and then use a rental FLIR.

Gun?

Just bring in a room full of innocents and the gun will come out to attack.

Come on, this is a gun forum. Sure I am looking for a gun. I have been up in the attic and cannot find it.

You should still be able to use a metal detector, you should be able to discern a gun from a nail or screw.

Or just start ripping the drywall down.

Most metal detectors can be programmed to only react to certain size objects, and only to ferrous or non ferrous objects. I use a Garrett Ace 250 metal detector. Would be a lot easier to find a rifle than a pistol. Easier to find a 1911 than a Glock. Might be harder to find a stainless pistol than a steel one. Would be easier if there was no metal ductwork in the attic. My detector will screen out nails, but still show aluminum cans for example. Lots of true stories of guys finding coin stashes behind the walls of old building with metal detectors....

^^^^ all true.

Or guys like me finding WW2 equipments back in Europe in attic, barnes, well, etc...

So you think it's under the insulation? I don't think it could fall down into a wall.

Fire should do it

BushMasterBoy, sounds like good advice. I will have to try a metal detector.

So, just how much friggin' drywall is up in the attic? And who puts drywall in an attic? I bet if you studied it carefully you could spot right where it is. If I was going to hide something behind drywall, it would be a small, easily removed piece, not some big hard to handle thing. Like maybe a small filler piece?

Just pick one of these up and do it in the evening. Anything metal should retain the day's heat for a couple hours and show up..

If I did, I'd be the pool boy for the women's Olympic swimming team ...

Too risky, i am pretty sure any one of them could beat me to a pulp if provoked.

During winter I can see studs behind the drywall, and of course hot water piping after it has run a little bit.

Personally, I don't go looking for studs no matter what season it is ...
