View Full Version : Shooting lawyer recommendation.

The Road Rage thread got me to thinking about needing a lawyer if I'm involved in some confrontation. I have no idea of how to contact a one or who is good or not. I think it would be good to have one picked out in advance and to carry his or her contact information in my wallet and maybe have in my cell phone. I'm asking if anybody has a recommendation for a lawyer that would be good for a situation involving gun laws, both for concerning a shooting situation and maybe other gun related police encounters. Or I'll take tips on how to find one.

I ability to find something using a search really stinks so I would welcome and be thankful for any links to previous discussions if they exist.

Thanks for any help,
Steve A.

Good idea SAnd.

As this economy continues to head south for main street crime will be on the increase.

With the current non-existence of constitutional law, simply having a "shoot defense" attorney card at the time of a shoot (legal or not) could be seen as pre-meditated. ("he had an itchy trigger finger, so he consulted council in preparation for shooting someone". If you do, in fact have an attorney for these situations, have the info stored with a wife, close friend, etc to make that call for you.

NRA publishes a list of knowledgeable gun-law attorneys. Look over it, meet with a few and then GET ONE ON RETAINER rather then just carry a business card around with you. You don't need to be an NRA member to scan to find a list.

With no disrespect meant to your friend's neighbor, for a homicide defense, I want someone with more experience in actual criminal defense trial work.

If you NEED it, you don't need someone who just passed the bar!

How does one who just passed the bar have a specialty?

I could PM you the name of my business law professor. Granted, he's up in FoCo and isn't a shooting lawyer, but he may know of a good recommendation.

The best "lawyer" to have on retainer is one you trust to shoot straight, knows the Judges and will get you the right "kind" of lawyer depending on the circumstances you find yourself in. If you are charged with murder, that is a totally different level than having your CCW confiscated because you happened to bend over and pick up a dropped pen in the bank. In any case, someone who knows you is often comforting to you in a stressful situation. But that person has to know their strengths and be quick to pass you off to someone with skill and specialization if you need it.

I saw the title and thought you had plans for your wife's divorce lawyer. I was going to recommend a big bore, like .50 AE or .500 S&W.

I found a lawyer that I use period. If he can't get the job done or isn't an expert in something, he'll point you in the right direction. Seems silly to have a CCW lawyer, a car accident lawyer, a domestic issues lawyer, etc. Find the person you trust and like and have them put you in touch with the right people.

Yup.

You will locate the best ones in Westword, or TV. I hear the really good ones have nicknames like Bulldog, Strongarm, and Punk Ass.

Best free advice: invoke your right to counsel and your right to be silent, and use both don't say a word other than your name. (a cop even told me this)

So this would apply to anyone who gets a lawyer's card for ANYTHING.

Over the top paranoia....

I thought the subject of this thread was about shooting lawyers.

I may have a case for entrapment.

I have my estate trust attorney's info stored on my phone. My death must have been premeditated.
