I usually will watch the movie The Last Samurai.
Since it came out I have been watching Act of Valor to help me put
things into perspective when life hands me a shit sandwich, sure has been the last 2 weeks.
What do you knuckleheads do to put things into perspective when shootig your guns is not an option?????
ETA: The movie is for when all other options, I.E. range trip, hiking, fishing, snowboarding, rock climbing or any other avenue is not possible at that particular moment.
In the ER Sunday and Monday, watching Act of Valor did a hell of a lot of good at calming and keeping my cool.
I spend time cleaning my garage that relaxes me

quarter every 15min till it kicks in.
OK just a little pin prick.....................................good.... ....................
Realistically try to focus on something else. There's always someone who has it shittier than you / I
Laying in a hospital room MANY decades ago. They wheel this kid in who's fuked, after his trident sissy bar tore through his spine. I wiggle my toes and figure i got it real good. That's what puts me in perspective.

Summer: hit the lake/stream and fish, fish, fish.
Winter: fire up Black Hawk Down, 28 Days Later or Smoking Aces. Act of Valor is now on that list as well.
Both usually involve a few brewskies as well.

In the same line as this... I almost lost my life on a barbed wire fence last year. 5mm....... Haven't had a "bad" day since. Example: HERE (http://www.ar-15.co/threads/57349-When-to-pull-stitches)
Not that I would recommend the same.
Life is too short. FUCK IT.
In my spare time, I like to wrench on cars and play a bit of video games. Otherwise, I give a bit of auto advise online on a few forums. Relaxes me to an extent helping other folks.
If its just bad i fish. If it is really bad fishing gives me too much time to think so i switch gears and get everything that has been on my to do list done come hell or high water. Normally by the time i am done with that things have sunken it, i realize things could be worse and i have a pseudo game plan to help my self out of what has been bothering me. Sorry for what ever has you down but as hard as it is to admit at the time things will get better.
Outdoors - Range Day, Hiking and Mountain Biking
Indoors - Reloading, Cleaning Guns, Old Movies (Casablanca last night), and Weight Training

One other thing i do is get together with our prayer group. Not saying you should go out and "Get Spirituality" However there are different groups, .orgs and like minded people to talk with.
Being a gun owner we all have certain "folks" we cannot talk with as that info [In Today's society & mentality] can have us unable to protect ourselves , just because something said could be misinterpreted.

I focus on all the positive stuff I can think of that is going on in my life. Even in my darkest times I was still able to find something. Also remember no matter how bad you think you have it there's millions of people that have it worse.

That is another thing to remember, the millions who have it worse. Sometimes I whine about my job, then I stop and think about all the people who want jobs like mine but can't find one, that makes me grateful for what I have.

I just remember that I could have been in the Navy:)
My faith keeps me going.
So much of the time, I look at the problem at hand and it's such a "1st world problem." There are sooo many more real problems being overcome in the 3rd world. I know I'll eat today, have a roof over my head, and have clean water to drink. So much of what we get tied up with is just really not that big of a deal.
I had a co-worker that just went into the hospital because he wasn't feeling well for a couple of weeks. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer on June 1st. They finally unplugged life support over the weekend. Dead from cancer at 37 leaving a wife and little girl behind.

They'll be no more aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh.. But you may feel a little sick..
Hang out with friends and family to figure out how to fix whatever is wrong.

Sometimes family is worse than the cure. Or they're the problem. A piss & moaning match only makes it worse.

Just lost a great friend to cancer, he was 31, and had a 1 year old daughter. He fought like a champ until the very end and never once complained. Seeing what he went through without a single complaint really put things into perspective for me. It's pretty damn silly to whine because you have a headache, or a sore muscle or something like that.
When I've had a shitty day, I hop into one of my old cars, pop in some old country music, turn it up to 11 and drive. I don't go anywhere, just burning gas. The old twangy music, the wind blowing by, the exhaust smell from an old car all really ease the stress for me.

Get with a friend who has it as shitty, have a taco or ice cream cone somewhere, bitch about it all, try to help each other out, head back home. Try to start over the next day.
I've been through my share of pain, have a bad result of surgery that will be with me 24x7 now, finally found some meds that help, but still hate life several times a day.
The barbed wire accident didn't look fun at all. Yuck.

I practice my ass off, WAY past exhaustion. Or I ask someone to spar with me. Many times, getting hit helps to snap my focus into place sometimes. It's amazing how quickly those problems fade off into the distance when there are punches and kicks flying at you! After a good workout, the mind tends to relax and finding new solutions to a persisting problem becomes a little bit easier.
I read the Bible.
Puts life on Earth into perspective - you'll never get out alive - just do the best you can.
Life is fawking eating a hole through me and I can't shake it.
Back to your local programing.

I hike or run. Something about putting down miles helps to center me. I also like to spend a few days alone in the back country every year or two to get my mind right. No conversation. No distraction. Just a little time alone to take out my soul and look at it. It keeps the "bad days" pretty non-existent the rest of the time.
I go shoot, drink with buddies, take the dogs for a walk or run, go ride the ATV, usually something active and outdoors and it makes it better!

Well, if it helps put things into perspective. My body doesn't let me forget, every f'n minute. I'm still here and kicking. (so far anyway) Some moments are very difficult to keep going.

Most times in the summer I hop on the dirt bike or the street bike and go for a ride. Unfortunately I can't do that right now cause I broke my collar bone on the dirtbike 3 weeks ago. In the winter, I ride the sled in the back country. Riding forces me to focus on the riding and lets me ctl/alt/del the problem and decompress a bit. Spendy hobbies yes, but still way cheaper than a therapist.
When it hits midweek, or for whatever reason I can't get away to ride, I find something to do that requires that I focus and turn off the phones and the TV. If I have a task to focus on I can clear my mind of all the other crap. Sometimes it's mowing the lawn, tinkering in the garage or @ the loading bench. Many times it's time on the rowing machine with the music blasting. It's never as good as a ride, but it normally gets me through to the next chance to ride. Now that I can't ride for another month and change, I think I'm going to take up hiking. Just short hikes in the hills for the day, something about the mountains and not being around ANYBODY else is cleansing to my mind too.
I think there's something for everyone that helps them center themselves a bit, sometimes it's just hard to find what works. I remember in college (I shared a large townhouse type apt with 5 other guys) that was the toughest time. I didn't have the money to do the stuff I really love, and it was just really hard to get away from people and be alone for a while. That's sometimes the worst part for me, and for others they can't be alone or their mind takes them down the rabbit hole even further. Just gotta find what works for ya.

I go to the strip club with my buddy and we see who can make a stripper cry first. The loser has to pay for the drinks.

I call my brother in CA and listen to him bitch and moan about his life and after we hang up I feel better about my life. Or, I change the channel. Or, I go outside and look at the stars.
Reloading my own ammo is good therapy for me. If that's not an option, I'll fire up the Xbox. If that isn't available, I'll just get shit-faced and call it a day.
I go to the gym. An hour session there and I'm feeling on top of the world again.

8 weeks in now and things are getting better after the hue problem . he wouldnt come out from his village (the couch) so we flooded his paddies and fields and burnt his village to the ground . i knew the tactics were going in the right direction when the tenant from up stairs call the fire department and the downstairs tenant called the plumber . hue has retreated to another hamlet and we are now on the move again to the bathroom sector . they say its hot , smelly and rainy there but as grunts we can take it.
