View Full Version : my little ebay rant.

So... i've started this little side business of buying and reselling things... clothes, mostly... north face, mountain hardware... that kind stuff.
anyway, my issue is with the people that bid on and buy the stuff i'm selling...
i'm sitting here on over $100 in sales that people haven't paid for yet. i go back to work tomorrow and can't really ship anything out until sunday.
if these bastards would just pay for their shit i could ship it today!!!
some of the things sold today. i could totally be an awesome seller and bust out some same day shipping, but no... they don't pay when they win... they wait...
one woman waited 5 days!!!!
the shit thing is, ebay makes you put a handling time on your items when you sell... i have 2 days to ship the thing out after they pay... but they have how ever long they want to pay me! the hell is that crap!
and why doesn't my damn shift key work on this laptop? only the right side works. i don't capitalize with my right hand. i use the left. what the hell. what. the. hell.[Rant1]

you didn't buy it on ebay. you're cool.
Well.. I'm not sure if you know this or not.. but since you ship USPS you don't have to go to a post office.. You can schedule a pick up online from your front porch! Bam.. get home late.. box it up.. have usps pick it up

can't even do that until the people pay... the ones that kill me are the ones that bid with just a few seconds left... then it takes them 2-3 days to pay with paypal. they know the damn thing ended. they know they won. pay for the damn thing!

Get over it, get past it and get used to it. Not a big deal. I've been buying and selling on ebay for years. That's just the way it is.

Shit bro, I've been selling on Ebay for over 8 years & I'm just happy when they pay before I have to send more than 3 emails! It's Ebay & it isn't changing......."Serenity now"

I "accidentally" bought 10 .50 cal cans off of eBay. People kept bidding the price up so I figured I'd have a little fun - next thing I know there's 40 pounds of ammo cans at my door.

if they use a "bid sniper" they don't actually bid. they have a service that bids for them by computer...they get home and find out they won the auction 3 days ago...

I bought an item on Saturday with "buy it now." Seller says to contact them for payment. I sent them an email for contact info. They finally respond today saying to call between 10-6 MT as they have a storefront. My wife calls several times, no answer.
Sometimes I've wondered about selling stuff on eBay, just no idea what I'd sell. Seems to be a lot of people doing it.

I've made a lot of money over the years selling the extra stuff that's in boxes in the garage. We all have them. Mostly gun parts and such. Sometimes I'll buy stuff, work on it, fix it up whatever, then sell it. Same thing on Gunbroker.
It's been a few years since I sold stuff on ebay. I seem to recall putting in my terms that I accept only Paypal, and if they don;t pay within 24 hours of the win, that I would be taking it back and contacting the second-highest bidder. I don't recall ever having a problem.
Are you not allowed to do that anymore?

You are. But a lot of the stuff I sell is 1 bid winners.

BUY IT NOW
and
"IMMEDIATE PAYMENT REQUIRED"
Or, write a term and condition. payment within 48hr or F**K OFF.
It works fairly well for me.
I still get ONE(1) non-paying bidder every other month.

Actually E-tail is better than Retail for me. No loss prevention. No crazy crack/meth addict trying to act all crazy.
No Rambo/Commando.
Only few drawback on E-tail is returns, and lower margin.
Although I take returns, I post "NO RETURNS" on my setting. It does help.
I think I get about 1 returns per 400 orders now.

Buy it now isn't a good choice for my items.
Example being the Thermarest mattress I had. I would have priced it at $50 buy it now. Auction it went for $73.50.
I'd have lost money.

I agree. It works on some items. Some doesn't. However, I do Buy It Now option with Immediate payment required setting. I was sick and tired of people not paying for stuff. It became epidemic on eBay.
If that is the case, I would list it at $75 or 80 BUY IT NOW w/ Best offer option. When a cheaper auction ended at a higher price and/or if some of those watchers did not win, they will just buy yours.
You can make an automatic setting for lowballers.
You can set it to Automatic Decline/Accept offers at X amount of dollars. Automatic accept/decline offers are important, because you can put "Immediate payment requirement" setting on it.
Years ago when my parents were still alive and eBay was young, they had a neighbor that did well with it. He'd drag home old cars that farmers wanted rid of, and he'd strip off every little piece he could, and then sell them on eBay. Somebody, somewhere, needed that piece of trim, that mirror, that ashtray, door handle, etc. He hauled home a steel windmill that was mangled by a tornado, and got $2000 for the damn gearbox off it! I couldn't believe it. Whatever was left he'd sell for scrap.

I sold holsters on eBay the last couple years. What pissed me off was the guy emailing the day after he bought something saying he didn't want it. With eBay's policies the buyers always right so your better off loading the fees and just relisting it. With the eBay/PayPal fees now it wasn't worth it so I quit dealing with them, $200/month eBay fees were rediculous.

How? I've done my eBay sales this way for over a decade and haven't had a single non-pay because it's not possible. Until they send payment via Paypal the auction isn't sold. I was a Power Seller before this was ever an option and I can't tell you how much of a nightmare it was dealing with non-paying bidders when you do that much volume. If they didn't introduce this option I would have quit dealing with a loooong time ago.
Sell using ONLY 'Immediate Payment Required' buy it now and your life will become much easier. Do a couple minutes of research to see what the market is like for the item your selling and set the price for a quick sale and be done with it.

If you think that's high you should have seen my Paypal/eBay & shipping fees back when I was doing a lot of it. I agree about the eBay policies and haven't sold on eBay in years. It's just not worth the risk unless you're willing to give the item away for free and even then it's more hassle to than it's worth to give it away for free if the buyer is gaming the system.
Buy it now w/ immediate payment required

These things are a damn gold mine for me... I love it!
Dealing with the public can suck.
I just bought a 1.8" SSD for a laptop that puked a drive. Made an offer and seller got back to me within 30 minutes with a counter offer. Pulled the trigger and made immediate payment via PayPal. Got the shipping notification that night and had the drive in the mail after a couple of business days, shipped free. eBay can be really awesome when folks hold up their end of the deal.
Sorry about the folks causing you pain.

I will save you on my watch list. If I find something from what you are selling, I can do local pick up to save shipping. :)

I've been eyeballing one of those thermarest mattresses for a while. Perhaps I'll check your auctions.

LoL! I used to do that also. Also, bought something from a foreigner, but didn't want it. I begged him to let me out of the deal but he did not, I waited 3 days, then gave him 10 star rating (this was back when you could look up people and 'profile' them. I figured he was foreign with not so great command of language. I said something like: Really fast shipping, excellent product, ********best on ebay!
He was selling so much crap I figured he was not going to remember me or look me up. He gave me a good review and I didn't pay a dime! hahahha.- Hey, I could use one of those cans for a sauna stove if you wanna throw one my way.
I've only had one or 2 slow sales, one I gave a bad review after 2 emails, and she cried about that, another just dragggged it out for like 7 days, after I had already bought something and was waiting for the $.
