HOLY shit... Can't believe something like this happening. Talk about man on fire.. There is a quote in there about coaches ordering and/or knowing about these events happening....

Sad as the cycle will likely continue and the hazing will become more and more extreme with time.

I literally had NO IDEA that stuff like this was happening out there.... as if us parents dont have enough to worry about????? fuck!!!!!
If this were to have happened to my son...you can GUARANTEE there would've been something done about it. The justice system, failed. The educators, failed. Time for other measures to occur.

Hell to pay doesn't begin to describe it.
This is a time where I would do what I had to do and gladly accept any consequences.

The really sad part is the people in the town pretty much ran the victim and his dad out. There were kids supporting the suspects and people in town were basically saying the victim needed to toughen up.

^^ yup... completly off the charts rediculous.. imagine finding out right now that a coach had some kids do this to your son....
Unfucking believable how anyone thinks this is acceptable. If that's what it takes be part of the club, count me out.

WTF... Rape is rape.... I will say it once again. Govenor Fuckmypooper will give these fucks a medal and a joint....This state is really falling apart.. I will bet 50 rounds of .223 the assmonkey will come out of the closet after his term is up. Then he can get a cushy fed job and resume selling alcohol to all the addicts in his bars on Colfax.(One has to wonder how many illegals are employed by him) There needs to be a big change in this great state.
Oh yeah, there needs to be a few mysterious fires in that town. A few "accidents".
When you continue to take away people's outlets they will continue to resort to more barbaric forms of entertainment.

Yeah, hazing. Not highschool boys sodomizing each other.

Hazing is one thing,,, being sodomized during a rape is another.... Maybe thumping or clobering is hazing but since when is rape OK....

Yeah, hazing. Not highschool boys sodomizing each other.
Right! We got the paddle (think dazed and confused), not sodomized, and this was 15 years ago.
The article kept calling it hazing so my apologies. But still this is not new. It doesn't happen as frequently as other forms of hazing but it has been happening for awhile now.

The inhabitants of some isolated town where apparently they'd all been sticking things up one another's bottoms for so many generations they couldn't understand why some college educated outsider thought what they were doing to his youngest son was abnormal.

I was unaware this was more common than we knew until now. Of course, to be expected when crap like this hits close to home. Our society is decaying at a morbidly fast rate. This weekend my youngest son turns 4. I am scared to death for what lays ahead of him. Problem therein lies, because of political correctness shit like this is only going to get worse before it gets better. I had an issue many years ago regarding my son getting habitually picked on at school when he was 8 years old. So my ex-wife and I met with the director of the school and the parents of the "bully". We talked and discussed the issue. The "bully" was 2 years older than my son and quite a bit bigger. The mother of the bully refused to believe her son could be bullying my son - even though several other children stated so. As I saw the conversation starting to digress...I stood up, looked the other parents in the eye and said, "This is going nowhere. So, here's how the problem is going to get to a resolution - The director is going to see that your son is counseled and the shit stops OR, the next time your child lays a hand on mine, I'm coming over to your house and beating your ass in front of him so he can see what it looks like, fair enough?" Grabbed my coat and out the door I went. 2 days later I was sent a letter stating I am no longer allowed on their property. I laughed and told my ex about it. She said she got the same letter. So we pulled our son out of that school and that was that. 2 years later, the school went out of business (located at 88th & Field). Now some other school, Kindercare I think, moved in.
Point being, I have ZERO tolerance for parents who think, "My little Johnny would never do that". Especially when there is overwhelming evidence proving otherwise.
This is why my kids will get expelled for kicking someone's ass before something stupid happens. Wait... shit.... we home school, so we don't have to worry about crap like that........

Main reason my kids are taking martial arts and I teach them how to wrestle even though they are only 3 and 6. By the time they have to deal with this they could be 2nd degree black belts. I figure its cheaper than paying the attorney to keep me put of prison if anything like this ever happened to them.

kinda brings up another aspect of this... I strive pretty hard to make sure my son is not displaying bully potential... but good god, wtf would you do with the kids who did it?? just wow, didn't really think something like this was in the realm of possibilities...

the coach (father of one of the boys) probably did this to his son. people who are molested/raped by a family member, then eventually do the same to someone else. I will bet the coach is a molestor.
absolutely could be the case...
WTF - a whole town full of sex offenders? And they're proud of it? Some of the quotes from townspeople are bizarre! Maybe the name of the town needs to be changed to Sodomyville, or Fudgepackistan. Or Rainbow City.
Wow this is fucked up. My kid is going to train with his uncle....mma mothafuckas! He will have my blessing to beat the living shit out of someone who tries anything like this,
I think stuff like this contributed to my aversion to sports while I was in school. Everyone held sports and athletes on such a pedestal that it really turned my off from most sports.

From the villagers point of view it sounds like the townspeople rallying their "upstanding" athletes.
Reminds me of that gang rape in Ohio, where law enforcement and town folk tried to sweep their star athletes rape of a girl under the rug.

If that sentence doesn't end with "..out of a cannon," then it's not an acceptable ending for the story.

This isn't the first that I have heard of this, it is however the first that I can remember where the entire town turned against the victim. When I wrestled in HS, the "initiation" was red belly from the team. It was pretty painful but not too bad. I remember another team (in another State) deciding that sodomizing with a broom handle was a much better idea. After that happened, we were all threatened with expulsion if there were any signs of hazing. Freaking amazing.

Anyone remember the story of the town that fired a canon for football games, and when the cannon one day exploded and put a kid in the hospital, the whole town sent "I hope you die" and various other hate filled cards to the hospital?
There has to be more to this story. Not saying forced rape is okay but something just ain't right. The "Friday night lights" mentality is strong but...

No, never heard that one - they did that to the kid that was injured? That's fucked up!
Steubenville, OH
I'm sure there are better media coverage out there.

But the shot that nearly took off Brett Karch's leg now leaves the fate of that tradition in the air, and that has upset some in the community.According to Karch's medical records, security guards notified police after Karch received disturbing phone calls and visits from parents and students, some of whom threatened to "break his other leg" or worse, if he didn't keep quiet about the accident. Hospital staff had to move him to a secure room where they monitored visitors.
Callers and visitors told Karch they would "make sure his other leg got blown off," and that "there would be retaliation" if the family cooperated in an investigation that could end the cannon tradition, said Mary Bissel (http://www.seattlepi.com/?controllerName=search&action=search&channel=local&search=1&inlineLink=1&query=%22Mary+Bissel%22), Karch's mother. "That's when I kind of got a little upset," Karch said.
The threats also included mention the family would be "banned from the town," Bissell said. She's been warned not to talk to a lawyer, or reporters.

sorry I wasnt on all weekend... but yeah, I remember that being a BIG topic of discussion after Columbine..
I have some friends that attended Columbine in those days- they said what people did to Dylan and Eric was really horrible, driving by throwing bottles (glass) at them, spraying them with soda, and all kinds of bullying. One girl said to me afterward something like "While it's wrong the way they reacted, no one can really be surprised Dylan and Eric lashed out, the way they were treated. Not saying anyone deserved to die, but those bullies did deserve to be punished." When those entrusted to preserve order and rule of law fail, oftentimes some have to take that responsibility into their own hands. NOTE: I am NOT saying go out and kill these people like in Columbine, but I was the victim of bullying in HS and every avenue I tried to take to get it to stop led to a dead end. I was left with almost no options... So I waited for the asshole bully to graduate. It begs the question, when people stop doing the right thing, what do the good, fair and decent people do?

totally agree.. it's a terrifying question..
Innocent kids who draw guns on paper, or "play Army" or "cowboys and Indians" on the playground, or chew a Pop-Tart into "the shape of a gun", or wear an NRA t-shirt, etc., or bring an empty .22 case to school, or a target to show off.....they get crucified every day by "zero tolerance" policies in schools all around the country.
But bullies? - the schools and society look the other way. And if they're athletes, they may even get celebrated for their awesome toughness.
Nah, no double standards here folks - move along.

seriously f-ed up.. I was telling a buddy about this story, and he was saying that when he was in HS that the baseball team used to have somebody tuck their junk back, and put the freshmans faces in it... said one of the upper classman tried to have him do it, and he hit the kid in the face with a metal cleat lol... but he said a whole bunch of his buddies were forced to put their faces in some dudes junk...... like wtf???????? maybe I lived a shelter life.... I dunno..... hazing yes, bullying, etc... but not this shit
Didn't read all the posts...
Did wrestling and soccer from a young age through college.
Never experienced a hazing incident and certainly no Sandusky BS
Sad times for kids, and pathetic reactions by parents, based on the media story.

^^ my brother wrestled, never anything like this... this fuckin world man..
I wrestled and played football- the worst hazing we ever got (coach endorsed) was end of practice, made to run through the varsity drills and get laid out. That's it.
I graduated HS in 1974, so that was a different era. In HS, the boys were only allowed to swim naked in the school pool. No trunks, no shorts, only butt-ass naked. I don't know that I'd consider it "hazing", but I damn sure considered it strange then, and still do. The reasoning was that "fibers and strings from trunks or shorts will clog the pool filters", which was pure horseshit IMO. What, little curly hairs don't clog filters? And the girls used the same pool (not at the same time) but THEY got to use swimsuits.
I think our friggin' gym coach just liked naked boys. Wet, glistening, naked boys. He damn sure liked to line up the horseplayers along the edge of the pool and swat their wet bare asses with his paddle and knock 'em back in the water. I saw that shit once and figured good behavior in the pool was mandatory. No swats on my fat ass, thank you.
I've always wondered if the naked swimming thing was normal, I sure as hell didn't think so. But my brothers were all a lot older than me and they said it was that way for them too.

WTF!?!?!?!
Yeah, tell me about it. It's one of those things that's so wierd and WTF that you hesitate to bring it up. But every male that went through that high school for generations did the same thing, and it wasn't just one coach, it spanned several. They may still do it for all I know. Wasn't any shenanigans otherwise that I know of, other than the usual ass-popping with towels in the locker room. I didn't like showering with other guys then and I ain't gettin' near it now. Huh-uh. NFW.
