Anybody on the board do bankruptcys? I have a friend looking.

And if my mortgage goes up anymore I may have to with medical bills and bull shit. Can't fricken win for loosing haha.

I don't do it. However, be careful who you hire. Most of them are mere petition preparers: they don't do much besides fill out the bankruptcy petition.

That's a good point. And never hire an actual petition preparer, serious bad news.

Without offending anyone on this forum, most of the debtor bankruptcy lawyers are not much better.

If you're looking to have somebody rubber stamp everything while charging an arm and a leg, then a bankruptcy attorney is for you. If you are looking to have someone actually file things if creditors cause problems and contest things for you, then you're going to be shit outta luck.

Actually a good bankruptcy attorney assists one in arranging one's financial affairs in advance of the bankruptcy filing. Because there is a lot of important things that need to be correctly done in advance to minimize the amount of money that the debtor pays to the Trustee. And properly counseled in advance, creditors will not be able to "cause problems". Also choosing exactly when to file to best advantage is an important thing that a bankruptcy attorney can counsel you on.

Now with a $500 bankruptcy, you get what you paid for.

And creditors "causing problems and contesting things" happens extraordinarily rarely in Chapter 7 filings. More often in Chapter 13 cases, car or mortgage lenders will object to Chapter 13 Plans that have not been properly constructed. A very large problem with people who file without an attorney and/or use a non attorney petition preparer.
