View Full Version : Does anyone else have the pyro bug?
I'd trade Christmas for the 4th of July. I love fireworks that much.
This year we're heading out to Glendo and enjoying the holiday. On the 4th while the family is out riding jet skis and reeling in fish Ill be out setting up a nice little site to paint the sky.
I've been a firework addict as long I can remember. My earliest memories go back to around the time I was 6 or 7 years old and seeing the bright colors in the sky. Ever since then I've wanted to paint the sky and every year it gets bigger and bigger.

This year the plan is to have 3 fuses max. Next year everything will be electronically fired.
Can anyone else relate?
That's cool! I have some fireworks left over from last year I didn't light due to the fire danger.
I will be at McConaughy this fouth, wonder if fireworks are allowed... Hmmmm

I used to be a major pyro but I have to admit to diminished interest in fireworks or campfires after the past couple of weeks. Heck, not even interested in hot food right now ...

Exactly where will it be legal to do this this year, much less even smart
I'm right there with you about the 4th. Grew up in a neighborhood in KC that would always have a huge block party. We would light more fireworks then you could imagine. We would actually have the street cleaners come by and clean up. All that and we only lite one roof on fire and had it out in seconds.
This year were are going up to Wyoming to a public shooting site and setting of a bunch.

Independence Day is the only holiday I really like.
I love setting stuff off, but there is no way in hell I could do that where I live. I get my firebug on in the fire pit....and that's about it.
I'm still working on the ultimate fire poker, Tim Allen style.
I love to blow stuff up and set stuff on fire. I was always the kid that had to be watched camping because I would constantly be playing in the fire.
Didn't do fireworks last year though. I've got some but not sure what the conditions are going to be like.
Will probably just go and watch the pros and call it good.

Yes. All fireworks are legal in Nebraska. You won't be able to do them at the lake because its a state park but if you leave the park you can do just about anything. McConaughy is where we originally planned to go but I couldn't find any reasonable accommodations when I was looking so we opted for Glendo instead.

Same here! Nothing says "FUN" to a 10 year old quite like a cigar, slingshot, and gross of M80's [Awesom]
no way in hell I'd try anything like that nowadays, in this climate.......
I like setting off fire works, but most fireworks shows bore me to tears, with the exception of the one put on by Colorado School of Mines.

The students engineer and build the show themselves, plus they fire them off from the 50 yard line at the football stadium. So you can be within only a couple of hundred feet away from where they're fired. Closest I've ever been to fireworks.

Yep, it is basically college kids blowing stuff up right in your face. Very loud. Something caught on fire both times I have gone. Both Times the Fire was quickly put out. Very entertaining and worth putting up with drunk college kids for the duration.
ETA: The Mines show does not take place in July. It is during E-days. I think in May.

If you ever take a trip up to Jellystone do it around the 4th and swing down to Idaho Falls for their show. One of the biggest one done west of the Mississippi. A local billionaire foots the bill for the whole show and the town triples its population for the day. It is one that won't bore you one bit.

Not sure it would be wise to admit one is a "pyro" with all the wildfires burning right now ... especially since some are "human caused". :p

I stopped at one of the fireworks stands in Cheyanne on my way to the MG and Cannon shoot outside of Casper, and I was sad.

I imagine it is similar to the one at Grand Lake, but larger? Don't get me wrong, I like explosions and lights and stuff, but I won't go out of my way to see a fireworks show. I think the crowds take a lot of the enjoyment out of the shows for me as well.
