View Full Version : Magazine values after July 1st?
Mostly thinking about insurance values and replacement cost. If they were to be lost in a fire they truly are irreplaceable. What other asset is available for nearly nothing, yet illegal to replace? I know we all have a few spares, they are worthless as far as selling them local. Blows my mind that the king has put us in a spot of making an item unsellable and unbuyable.

Irreplaceable value as a limited edition piece of art, or jewelry

-0- as ownership cannot be legally transferred.
They can be sold for whatever someone out of state will pay, but cannot be replaced at any price... interesting conundrum
Priceless and worthless all at the same time.
You may not be able to replace them, but I would think you could put a value on them saying what if I wanted to sell them out of state?

I lose my mags in a fire and I have two words for you; civil disobedience.
As for insurance value, they'll be worth what they could sell for legally in other states.

Since you have to have constant possession, can you even mail them out of State?

You can mail them out of state. As soon as you give the box with the other person's name on it to your carrier of choice, it is their property. Though it is on you to be sure where you are sending it is legal.
At the moment magazines are still a commodity due to scarcity, but that will probably change considerably by August.
Yoming is 45 mins away...Oh shit, did I just say that?...

Will be interesting to see if we can purchase 'repair kits' like those sold to CA residents.

Heh, I can just picture it now: Coming soon, alongside the Wyoming fireworks stands, a WY magazine stand! :D (Hrm, I don't have enough cash to create such a biz, darn!)

How the hell is anyone going to prove you bought your mags out of state for any current production firearms? Stupid law needs to go. I have stocked up, but I am giving this State until 2017. If nothing changes this 5th generation Colorado native is gone.
From what i can tell the way the law is written you cannot even sell them out of state unless you have a license to do so. There is also a clause in there on construction or assembly of magazines which would rule out magazine repair kits.

they are not irreplaceable

Then you get a vendor to sell you any mag over 15 rounds, after 12:01 July 1st

You will be surprised what might be happening after 7/1, depending on inventory.

The more and more I hear about 1224 the more I believe it to be Arbitrary and Capricious.
Yep. Sucks ass. This is exactly what the bastards who shoved this law down our throats wanted. Honestly not surprised those scum sucking turds aren't paying criminals to break into houses to steal our mags and burn our hosues down.

I've been hunting for a quote and attribution ... could be Blackstone, could be Bastiat, could be Plato for all I know, but it goes something like this; "When the law becomes corrupt, it is the duty of all good people to become criminals."

Ah ... found it (and as usual I've got the wording way off ... and didn't get even close to guessing the author)
"If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so."
- Thomas Jefferson
What if, on July 4th, everyone who bought 15+ mags put an ad on Craigslist, Armslist, the Nickle and the various state newspapers offering a 30 round mag for sale at the price of $100k, (about the cost of legal defense/challenge)? Even if no one actually transferred a mag, what would the value then be?
Hint: it would be a political value
A followup question, what entities might be tracking sales of 15+ mags in the state following passage of 1224? Will magpul announce how many mags were sold in the Boulder Airlift and to CO dealers?
