Well, there goes the country...

The Senate on Thursday approved a sweeping immigration overhaul that would extend legal status to millions of undocumented immigrants while increasing border security, sending the bill to the House side where it faces a chilly reception. The vote caps weeks of bipartisan negotiations and hands President Obama, who has made immigration legislation the cornerstone of his second-term agenda, a partial victory.
The Senate voted 68-32 to approve the bill, following a series of test votes that already demonstrated the legislation had enough support to pass.

I guess the good news is that it's expected to fail in the House... but still, this just proves that McCain, Rubio, and the rest of the RINOs that voted for this crap need to go! [Mad]

I'm of the opinion that since the House will probably kill it, the failed immigration package can be used as a heavy hammer against the Republicans next year and maybe in 2016. It's almost like they don't want to win an election again, by killing immigration and bringing up abortion AGAIN. They should have kept their damn mouths shut and rode the wave of support that was coming their way due to the gun control battle.

I see that as not equal there. Abortion, yeah, they should STFU about that, but immigration? Let's just open up the borders and screw everyone who did it the "right" way. So you honestly think that this bill will not screw us all over?

I believe the house will pass something similar.

I said before this whole thing started, that maybe they're doing this to bring in a bunch more suckers to feed the Ponzi scheme to keep it going for a while longer. Of course they can't come out and say that. I can't really figure out any other reason that Republicans would go along with this. I don't believe for a second they're doing this because they're dumb enough to think these people will ever vote for them.

Nah Ronin I'm not advocating amnesty and instant citizenship, and a ton of undesirables WILL get in (think Mariel boatlift) should this pass. I know this package has problems and seems almost desperately cobbled together. BUT, like the Manchin-Toomey vote will be used as a hammer because "they voted against even moderate gun safety", this will be used in that way. All the Dems have to do is say "The Republican Party voted against immigration reform", while they refuse to acknowledge the many problems with said reform.

ETA: It seems to me that Obama and the Dems maneuvered the GOP into a trap by bringing guns, immigration, gay marriage into the spotlight...and waiting for the GOP to vote no on it all.

The yeas on the immigration bill are 68, the nays are 32. The bill, as amended is passed.

GOP members voting yea were Alexander (R-TN), Ayotte (R-NH), Chisea (R-NJ), McCain (R-AZ), Rubio (R-FL), Graham (R-SC), Corker (R-TN), Hoeven (R-ND), Collins (R-ME), Hatch (R-UT), Kirk (R-IL), Murkowski (R-AK), Flake (R-AZ) and Heller (R-NV).

Remember this when your trying to decide between Rubio and Rand Paul.

I remember an old proposal, "Have one requirement for amnesty be that the illegal works as border patrol. For every new one who gets in, one of these new border patrol gets booted out."

i have a better idea for the immigration bill... Let's spend hat money enforcing border security & anyone found to be in the country illegally gets 2 weeks hard labor followed by the quickest, most uncomfortable trip to the border closest to their home nation.

If they didn't enforce the immigration laws we already had, who in their right minds believes that these federal asshats will enforce this one?

Rubio had to vote that way considering his base supporters down in FL. just an opinion though, not defending him at all. I want more than anything to send every illegal to their home country. only people that follow the established immigration laws get the chance.

Wife and I are considering joining the growing class action discrimination lawsuit

I am out ~$2800 + over 250 hours for her LEGAL immigration.

Should have shipped her to Nogales, had her walk across. I'd have a free house, new Cadillac and free healthcare

I absolutely would if I were in your shoes! I've got a buddy from Scotland I should point in that direction.

The bill that would allow amnesty specifically says that it won't happen until the Border Patrol is doubled in size and more fence is erected along the border.
