I bought a maverick 88 nib and I just noticed that there is a gap about 1/16 between the end of the mag tube and the barrel lug. Isnt this supposed to be a a flush fit ? I dont want to shoot it because of this. Im going to call the dealer and mfg but if anyone has 2 cents i am all ears. Thanks - A

should be flush (~)

is the screw that holds the bbl to the magazine tightly secured?

remove the bbl and re-install and check again.

follow all mfg instructions and firearms safety rules ;)

If I'm not mistaken, the 88 and the 500 are very close in construction, here's the manual Link (.pdf) (http://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/FIREARMS/mossberg_500.pdf)

I checked out my Model 88 too. If you are referring to the where the non-reciever end of the magaizine joins the Take Down Mount/Take Down screw, I too have a 1/16" gap but have put many rounds through this gun for birds, trap, and skeet and have had no problems. My magazine and barrel are tight and the Take Down Screw can't get any tighter. (Purchased the gun new in Sep 06)

I think this is just a poor design versus what you'd find on a Mossberg 590 or Rem 700.

Have you removed the dowel from the magazine yet?

i could be way off, but i would think that is there so it stays tight where it matters, where the barrel/reciever meet? i could be wrong im no gunsmith.
