View Full Version : Almost went to hell yesterday...
So the wife and I were exiting the liquor store, I had my 30 pack, and she had her wine.
As soon as we got outside, our priest from our church was getting out of his car he was wearing
his black robe and collar; I told the wife, "we're going to hell honey", father said, "Hello Patrick", I said "hello Father"
as he was looking at our liquor purchase. I ASSUMED he was going into the subway or maybe
King Soopers.....as I was loading up my trunk, I watched as he went straight into the
liquor store!!! The wife said, "maybe he's just getting a soda?" We sat there and he came out carrying a case
of Budweiser..... we laughed our ass off!!

And here I expected you to say you got kidnapped and they took you towards boulder.
I didn't see anyone else in the car, but sounded like someone was inside the trunk...

The best Catholic Priest I ever knew loved his Irish Whiskey!

Seems alright to me. I have always considered beer to be in the category I call "God's food". He wants us to be happy.

That right! There is nothing unbiblical with partaking alcohol. You cannot build a biblical case for that. The Bible DOES teach that drunkenness is a sin.
-The Preacher
If drinking alcohol was a sin, Jesus wouldn't have turned the water into wine at a celebration. When you become a drunkard...there's the problem.

So you guys are former Baptists turned Catholic or something?
Most of the Catholics I've known (clergy and laypeople) were never all that hung up on liquor. That's definitely more of a Protestant thing (and I say that as someone raised in a Mennonite church ... they make the Baptists look like free-wheeling drunkards by comparison).

Hmmmm... religion. Never thought much of it.
It seems to me that whatever the hell the "denomination" is........ all of them at least do wine...even during their rituals and stuff.
Coolest preacher/reverend ever!
I personally have not yet seen any reverend drink alcoholic drinks yet in US.

Not the Mormons. Blood of Christ during sacrament is Symbolic only and they use water. They are forbidden to partake in alcohol and many things that "poison" the body. This was told to me by a practicing Mormon so I take it at face value.

I have pretty much this exact same problem ....

Not drinking alcohol is more of a Southern Baptist thing than it is Baptist in my experience.
I never understood denominations that use the same Bible as guidance and have "rules" that aren't in the book.

As if the priest has any say as to whether you go to hell or not... [hahhah-no] [gohome]
There are certainly many denominations that don't believe in partaking of any alcohol- some even forbid wine, as it's a sacrament to Jesus (but hard liquor would be ok)...
Religion is a creation of man, and every denomination can find it's root in an argument between MEN (or women).
I once had an interesting discussion with a Wesleyan about the wine that is represented in the bible. He insisted that was "NEW wine" (grape juice) that was not fermented. I then proceeded to ask where they got the refrigerator to keep it from fermenting. He didn't understand that without refrigeration or other preservation, crushed grapes will turn to wine automatically.
I believe church is a place where truth should be spoken, so I sometimes call out hypocrites as I find them.
I've never understood why people are surprised or get bent out of shape when they hear of Christian leaders drinking... this isn't Islam folks. [Coffee]

Not all Mormons though. There's 2 branches that I know of that allow drinking

You know how you keep a Mormon from drinking at a party?
Invite another Mormon.
Geeze....You guys twisted and turned my funny story into a religious sunday morning sermon....??
My point was/is, have YOU ever seen a Catholic Priest, in full 'uniform' buy a case of Budweiser at a liquor store
at noon on Saturday?

My father was 1/2 Irish. I can trace my Great Great Grandfather back to Killkenny, Waterford County, Ireland. The priests used to come to the family's houses for post-reception/wake drinks. I've seen enough Catholic Priests lit up on Irish Whiskey to fill a convent.

Honestly, no... but I've seen them drink wine (from the bottle), and seen them making wine in "uniform"
The Holy cross abbey in Canon City has their own brand of wine... [Beer]
Their Riesling is quite good, actually!
P.S. The church I volunteer at (sound and security) is called the Vineyard... guess how they feel about it... [pick-me]
