Very sad and tragic news. Whether on the ground, or in the air, wildland firefighters have a dangerous and difficult job (Hoser, I know that you know this first-hand).

My thoughts and prayers to these individuals and their families. Rest in peace.

This is turning out to be a bad year for firefighter LODD. There have been many multiple LODD fires this year. Stay safe and prayers to all those in AZ tonight.

I am so sad to hear this news. Firefighters are heroes, plain and simple. My heart is heavy for thier families, and I hope and pray that no more die.

We are all diminished by their loss.

My heart and prayers go out to them and their families. What a horrible way to die. My son is a fire fighter with West Metro and we worry about him constantly. Ironic, I'm retired LEO and my son didn't want to be a cop because it was too dangerous.

This is such terrible news... I'm sure that God waits for them with open arms. Selfless service of any kind deserves the highest respect.

Rip boys I hope you got the same rush I did ....As you where standing around morning briefing leaning on your axes Pulaskis and saws with a recycled pair of nomex fom last weeks fire, thinking this was just another day on the fire line that is so close to hell, x number of days until your next shower and how you would love a fresh can of cope..

You get your orders like normal hand crew 2 you are heading to the west end of the fire cut as much line as you can through this hillside and ravine... Things did not go as planned even with your squad determinend esacape routes the fire blew back over you. even your shake and bake failed...you lost your life doing something you loved. I pray for you and your family and hope that they understand how much wild land fire becomes engrained in you how the smoke in the air brings up a sense of need. A burning deep within that is only satisfied 14 days in as you drive back to home base for 2 days of r and r before it is back out on the line.

ex wild land fighter here... My heart is beyond heavy

I do believe you brought a tear to my eye. I can not even imagine what it would be like to dig your own grave and put foil on top of your self hoping to live. I hope they go into history as the storm king crews did and bring even more respect to our fire crews.

Used to pound the ground myself. Nowadays I'm on the other side of the morning briefings watching those faces head out to the lines. It rips my heart out to know that I could be sending them out to their deaths.

It rips my heart out to know that these 19 will never make it home. May God bless them and their families.

Never Forget.
