I am looking for a reasonably priced alternative to the acog to go on my theoretical ar-10 308. It would have a 20" barrel be free floated and be a medium distance hunting/ target rifle. I really would want a collapsible stock as well. I had a 4x acog in the service and am relatively happy with my ncstar 4 power on a rig I sold about a month ago. I can't post pics yet. I like the medium fixed power for 90% of my shooting and I would put the same on this one but I am afraid the recoil would destroy it. I prefer the size weight and a graduated reticle for ranging. I just don't see anything in a more mid priced optic. I would like a 4 or 6 power. Recommendations? Thoughts

I assume the OP wants something that doesn't require batteries like an ACOG.

A used acog is going for approx. $800. It's worth the wait if you can save up imho. There is no comparable that is cheaper.

Why have fixed power when you can have variable? These are surprisingly decent considering how stupidly inexpensive they are.

Tried a red dot with magnifier on it. Not quite right on a rifle that can hold a quarter at 100. I really like the way acogs look and I like size and weight advantage over the 4x16 on there currently. I liked the chevron and the fiber optic with drop I had on my m-4. I have been looking around and have found fixed power to be more robust and typically better in lower tier optics. And it is just less moving parts. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001NIB7F0/ref=mw_dp_img?ca=B001NIB7F0&is=l. That is similar to what I have. I really just want something to handle the recoil and not break. Have all the features of the cheaper one but have better glass. I would like to be less than 600 since I only have 1300 in the rifle. If nobody makes one then why not?

No chevron.. just the TA01, but price is good.

Look at a 1-4 PST with a fastfire on it. With mount, it should run about 600 or less than 500 if you don't want a fastfire

Where are you seeing these for ~$800?

Thanks

I agree with RonMexico on the 1-4. I am running a Leatherwood Hi Lux CMR 1-4 on my Tavor 18 and its the cats meow!
