View Full Version : Trading Post / New Laws Rant(ish)
When these new BS laws passed, I was pissed, and I suppose that is the best way to describe how I have felt since then.
Tonight, as most of you know, I had to close down the trading post so that we can wipe its records clean, change the Terms and Conditions, and require re-acknowledgement of the new terms / conditions.
I have to say that doing so was one of the most difficult things i have ever had to do in contradiction to my principals (done things that were difficult, but always WITH my principals before). What once was an emotion of being pissed off, suddenly hit me with sadness and disbelief. Actually having to do something myself to restrict the rights of the fine group of people we have here went against every thing I believe in. Against my moral fiber, which is something I hold near and dear to my heart. It actually hurt inside to flip that switch, and to be honest, it continues to hurt. It is a pain that I haven't had to feel in my life before, and honestly I DO NOT LIKE IT.
But at the same time I realize that losing this community wholesale would be far worse, and this is a necessary step. This made the action a little easier, but didn't solve my moral dilemma.
So I plead with all of you, my brothers (and a couple sisters), to do whatever you can to aid in the legal actions already started against these unconstitutional, ineffective, misplaced and likely flat out malicious laws. We must overturn them now, because if we do not they are sure to stay on the books forever. Give your support in writing, in testimony, in rallies, and at the ballot boxes. Wherever you can, help is needed.
Until we get these overturned, I ask that you please think of this community in your posts and advertisements when the trading post is re-opened. There are proper ways to seek recourse, and publicly disobeying laws on a public forum like this will only hurt our chances at a legal reversal, and may impact the future of our community in drastic negative ways.

It was disheartening to hit my auto tab opening button and see that TP gone....
I hope we can get these laws trashed like they should have been in the first place. !
Very erie seeing the TP blank. It's like losing your best dog. Looking forward to the new TP. Thanks J.
Keep up the good work and i will keep fighting the good fight how ever i can. Thank you for keeping this great forum on track and available to us.
Thank you Sir for all your hard work.
Thanks for giving us all a home for so long. Especially in the last few months - it was nice to have a place to go not filled with the craziness of some of the other sites out there.

Gotta do what you have to do in order to protect yourself the mods and others against any potential legal action that might come of being named an accessory.

Thanks J. Also, can you get rid of the "shipping" sticky thread I started, as what is stated in it no longer applies anymore. Thank you. http://www.ar-15.co/threads/42217-Shipping-Firearms-In-State
Thanks J and all the mods... Most people don't realize how much work goes behind running a forum. Keep up the good work!

It's been nice to do things the Constitutional way and I thank you for all your hard work. For what's it's worth, when I lived in Ca, this new transfer requirement was SOP so, maybe, you could draw some input from the CalGuns site, http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/forumdisplay.php?f=92. They've had to do transfers through an FFL for many years and have a huge private party firearms marketplace. Thanks again for all you've done!
I'm right there with you J. I had a lengthy discussion with a group of friends this weekend about how we cannot trade or sell our personal property amongst ourselves anymore, and how that is the epitome of lost liberty, freedoms, and therefore, tyranny. Even the left leaning ones have started to recognize it a little bit at a time... thank you for your hard work and dedication to everyone here. We'd all be pretty bummed (to say the least) if this place was gone altogether.
Happy 4th of July everyone.

You have to pick your battles and choosing that battle to stand on could have meant a lost war as far as the community and the organization it provides to fight these fights. I understand the weight of your decision and while I'm right there with you on not wanting to do it... it did have to be done so try not to beat yourself up too much as ultimately the right decision was made as difficult as it was. Thank you.

One question - it looks like all the feedback got deleted for everyone too -- is that staying that way or will that come back when the TP is re-opened?
Thanks for all the hard work J and Mods, sad day indeed.
We all know its not your fault and are looking forward to 2014.

Sad truth.

This may not be the time and place to make a valiant (and maybe foolish) stand for liberty, but I hope we can band together with something to stand on when that time comes.

Great question that I'm sure lots of people would be relieved to hear the answer to.
Take heart, and don't despair. I firmly believe this is but a temporary inconvenience.
We will not go quietly into that good night. These ridiculous, misguided laws will be repealed.
We stand united as one, each of us.
Thanks for all your hard work, J.
Thanks "J", and to up it a little thanks to all the mods and to all those that make the site run on a day to day business herding all the crazy cats...................

Thank you for your efforts, they are appreciated greatly.
I know your pain, I feel it acutely still this morning. When I signed out last night just after 11 PM I did so with tears in my eyes as my soul was weeping at the approaching loss of freedom. We will work hard and get these laws removed and get our freedoms back and this forum will be instrumental in making that happen here in Colorado.
Thank you again.

Thank you, Marlin, for taking a risk to try and safely navigate through the new laws and keep the Trading Post open.
It it truly a benefit to the Colorado shooting community.
You have my support to follow whatever policies you decide are best.
I've made new friends and learned from the people I met at "trades and sales".
Engaging conversations and enlightening discussions are at least 1/2 of the benefit that occurs at a Trading Post "meet-up".[HiFive]
It's a bad situation all the way around. You guys have to protect yourselves and the community here. Obviously the work you do and decisions you make do not go unnoticed. I appreciate what you guys (all of you) do here and the time and effort put in to make this a good place. While we all don't agree with these new laws we understand what you guys are doing.
Thank you J and all the staff as well.
Justin,
First I have to say, "Thanks," to you and all the other mods for your volunteer work, giving of yourselves for the benefit of the community.
I'm just a regular guy, mostly quiet in real life and here on the forum. I believe very deeply in personal liberty and responsibility, but at times, infringement of the one or evasion of the other agitates me so much that I am moved to speak up.
When I saw the pro-tyranny bills proposed in our state legislature this year, I cannot say I was surprised. It seemed obvious, considering the political opportunity presented by the most recent atrocities, and the latest electoral folly. I was agitated, however, and moved to contact our elected representatives more than I ever have before.
For me, the sadness and disbelief struck when those bills were passed. I pressed on, contacting the Governor of our state, mainly as an act of defiant optimism.
I think I understand your moral dilemma, Justin. I've faced such dilemmas in my own life, and I can say honestly that I've grown and become stronger, because I faced them and I lived through them. I can also tell you, at least from my experience, that if you are a thinking and caring person, and unwilling to surrender your principles or sacrifice your beliefs, those moral dilemmas never become easier or less painful to deal with.
It was great to meet you at the class on Saturday. And thanks again, for all your community service.

Many thanks to J, all the mods, admins, and Marlin for all the hard work and sacrifice.
We shall overcome.
So I plead with all of you, my brothers (and a couple sisters), to do whatever you can to aid in the legal actions already started against these unconstitutional, ineffective, misplaced and likely flat out malicious laws.
The intent behind the legislation was clearly malicious. Gun owners are seen as a "threat" by the Liberals migrating here from other states, and the powers in the Capitol want us to feel unwelcome, treating us as if we are all potentially guilty of something, accusing us of zealotry and intolerance, and using outright punitive laws to criminalize common items and activities that are legal in the rest of the country . . . "for the children."

Yep, thanks to J, the mods, admins, Marlin, and anyone else instrumental in keeping this site going.
This is truly a sad day in our state history, and potentially in the future for our rights nation wide. There are people that are using Colorado as an example to further their twisted agenda. Hopefully we can get these laws turned over and get back to what the founding fathers intended.
Appreciate all you folks do, Thanx....
Thank you J for all your dedication to the form. I've only been on the form for a few months now, and have met and interacted with lots of members and have learned a shit ton about AR's. You probably are a very busy guy just like the rest of us. But thanks for your hard work!
