In honor/disgust of July 1st, I share the bow making website I have been addicted to. This guy makes bows out of PVC that range from 15-70+ lbs for less that ten bucks! For $15 I have enough pipe for 8 bows. I did 2 longbows for the kids with a propane torch, and will be picking up a heat-gun this afternoon and ordering Dacron and string serving today to finish them out.

String came in the mail yesterday. I'll have to learn how to twist it up in the car on the way to the in-laws in New Orleans.

I completed 3 bows so far this summer, a long bow for the 6 and 13 year old and a recurve for myself. They all have variations of a Flemish twist string using b-50 dacron and serving. The 6 year olds bow is probably 10-15lbs (1/2" pipe), the 13 year olds is 15-20lbs (3/4"-- need to try the 1" pipe for his), and mine is about 30lbs with 1" pipe. The brace height is all wrong for each bow, but I used paracord to mock up the string length with great success (although it does stretch). The next set will be in the works very soon with increased poundage for me and the older one. So far the project cost is about $40 that will make 8 bows and probably 30 strings.
