View Full Version : Don't let Colorado become California

As sad as this sounds these recent laws aren't that shocking for me. I once lived in California where the gun laws are some worst in the nation and it has numbed me to the curtailing of our rights.
In California Liberals have a super-majority in both houses giving them carte blanche to any crazy gun control laws they damn well please. If you are as familiar with the laws in CA they are very restrictive and only getting worse:
-An Ammo purchase permit that outlaws the purchase of ammo online; only face to face ammo purchase will be allowed.
-Mandatory locked storage of all Firearms in your home
-Regulation for Robo-guns (guns that can identify if owner) and eventual ban of non roboguns.
-Lead ammo ban
-Ban virtually outlawing most semi-auto rifles.
..and many, many more laws http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=776966
What's worse is gun owners have no way of voting any of these people out of office since the Democratic party has a stranglehold on the state. So the politicians have no worries about facing backlash from law abiding gun owners.
Don't let Colorado become California!!!
Do not give up the fight here, in Colorado you still have a chance by making your voices heard--as shown by the pending recalls of Giron and Morse. If you lose your will to fight Colorado will then soon go the way of the golden state.

[gihad] Its sad future generations will never know the freedoms we had. We are all to comfortable in our lives, this is only the beginning. Registration is coming and then?????????? If we keep going at this rate 2A will be a memory, and its our fault.
In the words of our founding fathers "I'd rather die a free man than live as a subject." Or in modern terms- "I'd rather die in a pile of brass than let some liberal take my freedom."

But how many will, more likely people will turn in the guns. Or how many times has or will the news spin a sorry to make anyone that does stand up for their Rights look crazy
In the words of our founding fathers "I'd rather die a free man than live as a subject." Or in modern terms- "I'd rather die in a pile of brass than let some liberal take my freedom."
We are getting there.
I once tried to buy some ammo at a big5 in City of Los Angeles near LaCienega and Wishire (actually on San Vincente and Wilshire).
They wanted to see my ID to purchase the AMMO!!!!!
I thought they were just checking my age, but they were writing down my information on their log book.
They said it was requirement in LA.
The politicians of this country need to be reminded that they work for US. That they are supposed to do what WE want them to. New law proposals should be put to a vote by the people, not just passed by the damn clowns that dreamed them up. That's total horseshit in my opinion. There should NEVER be any new law put in the books until after all the people get to check it out and have a say in it.
What a pipedream, huh?
Time for some housecleaning.

Slowly but surely, I think folks are starting to wake up.

If you are familiar with the court battles for gun rights in California they are actually winning some battles but its a Sisyphean like battle because every time they win a case the legislature passes more laws for the lawyers to litigate.
California gun organizers are very-very well organized, the Calguns Foundation has a very good team of lawyers too. The lawyers even chime in on the Calguns forum (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/index.php)to give legal advice for people with questions about new laws (instead of jailhouse lawyers arguing over the interpretation of laws on a web forum).
But alas there is not enough gun people in California to make a big difference.

I disagree that it's too late. It is clearly the 11th hour, but it's not too late.
We'll know in the next year or so ... if there isn't a huge backlash against the Dems in Denver in that time then it will be too late and Colorado might as well be re-named East California.

I agree, it's not to late. If you ever lived in Cali you tell Colorado is headed there but it's definitely reversible. California got this way because of apathetic and uniformed voters and let anti-gun liberals take over the state. Let the CA example serve as lesson to Colorado.

I lived in CA up until 4 years ago. Had enough and got out. The thing that gets me, is that CA is one of the most liberal states yet the citizens voted like 65-70% against gay marriage with prop 8. I use this as an example to how a lot of people really are conservative, but vote democrat for the free hand outs.

Good luck. One of the reasons I came here was back in the 70's Our Governor told us they were coming and there was nothing we could do about it. When I left the Army in 92 I spent a month back in Oregon and could not believe what had happened.
Did ya notice that 1/2 the interviews that they did of people from the Black Forrest fire all started with the same line? "Well when we moved here from California" 2-10 years ago....[Bang]

It is not too late here in Colorado to win this battle. When good people get pushed hard enough they will push back. Some brave folks down south are pushing back right now with the recall efforts. Every time these elitists try to push us we need to push right back and push hard. Principled people will only be pushed so far before they push back with resolve.
For those that think that it is not to late, do you know what you're up against? Are you willing to lie, and cheat to change everything? I will guarantee that the other side is, and unless you are willing to do the same, it isn't going to change. I know we are not like that, but unfortunately, that will be the downfall. They sealed their fortune when they made it so anyone can vote, and do it multiple times if they wanted. Liberals, Democrats, and illegals will do whatever they can to keep the Dems in power, what are you willing to do to change it? That is the real question.

I hope it is not to late. Personally I would like to see the gun rights issue put up for vote. Then I would get my answer. I have goals after I retire from my first career to buy some land 100 to 500 acres. Was always counting on that to be in Colorado. No way in hell will II make such an investment now in this state if these laws stand.

Look into Oregon, around the Bend area. The scenery is close (little mountains, but still mountains), and the climate is the same.

When criminals are allowed to write legislation that binds free men and women, it truly is an obstacle that will be difficult to go over.

I agree with Wyoming. Oregon from what I understand is just as bad or worse politically than here. Its sad that id leave with my roots here. I have found a few tracks of land that I could in the area in my price range, but I will not make such an investment not if this state stays where it is politically. The Wyoming move will have to wait until I retire in 4 to 6. Sad right now is a good time to sell and buy. With the real estate market on the up I wonder how many liberals are moving in?
What about Montana? Winters too harsh? I know Wyoming can suck in the winter, coldest place I've ever been was in Wyoming.
I still say the US is the best place on the planet, we just need to take it back from the assholes.

I still think there's a chance we can take back Colorado so I'm not packing ... yet.
However if we do decide to leave, we're looking at the SLC area (mostly because there seem to be a ton of decent Graphic Design jobs there). Although I also like the idea of NW Idaho (I think the area around Coeur d'Alene is as pretty if not prettier than anywhere in Colorado).
Wyoming and Montana look nice except for the winters (but honestly if I wouldn't have missed out on an awesome job in Cody at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center (http://www.bbhc.org/) I'd have already moved there regardless of the political condition of Colorado).

According to a facebook post from Larimer county sheriff Smith, less than half of the verified Morse recall signatures were from republicans.... I don't have any other sources for that info other than the sheriff's word, but if accurate, that certainly gives me some hope for this state.
It's a gradual slide and people tolerate gun control due to how incrementally slow it moves. Just look at all the members of this very forum who vowed, in no uncertain terms, to move out of CO if the various gun control measures passed. The laws passed. Those who posted they'd move still seem to have the same CO location listed under their user names.
Go watch a match at your local range, see how many of the participants are under 40, -for that matter see how many aren't already retired. That, is but one of the reasons gun control will march onward: the shooting sports aren't nearly as attractive to the younger set. While there are certainly anomalies and exceptions to this trend, I don't see kids running around after school with BB-guns like when I was in grade school, but tapping the screen for endless hours daily on an iPad seems wildly popular. Those kids, when they get to be voting age, will not energetically vote to retain a right they've never exercised.
Each generation will contain less shooting enthusiasts, regardless of how much I donate to the NRA/SAF/Etc. I'm not going to toss in the towel, but I'm not so naive as to think we are ever headed back to the laws that governed firearms during my childhood, sad though that may be. That ship sailed before the youngest members of this forum were even born.
Don't let Colorado become California? I don't think we'll ever have the frequency of earthquakes, number of porn production facilities, or Disneyland, but all bets are off when it comes to CO gun laws if the Democrats retain a majority.

Wyoming winters are mild compared to Ft Drum, or even MI where I grew up. You don't know snow until you're been through a multiple day storm of lake effect snow and arctic winds coming over the cold water.
I'll admit that I am a California transplant. I lived in the upper Mojave Desert in a small town that made its living off a naval air warfare center. The city and county was a republican majority. The county had the highest number of issued CCWs in the state.
I moved here because I honestly think the fight there against the antigun idiots cannot be won. Too many people are uneducated and make assumptions as such. They elect representatives whom have no interest in our interests. I moved here also knowing that the new antigun legislation had passed.
The thing is, this state has one hell of a chance of getting its rights back. This will take educating, and informing people that guns aren't the devils tool. The constitution was written to protect the rights that are being stomped on. The Cal guns Foundation tries so hard and is an excellent group. However, I think they are drowning. We need a CGF of our own before we lose this battle.

Um, no. Oregon is exactly like Colorado was, before all the BS laws. There are mountains (just not as big), lots of green trees, and actual trees with not so many evergreens, and the humidity is the same as Colorado, something I love, no humidity.... You might as well consider it what Colorado used to be. It does have its cities that don't like guns, but as you all know, so does Colorado.

Have you seen the wolf spiders, and trantulas that we have here?
Not a person is going to do a damn thing but bitch if Colorado made all semi auto rifles, and semi auto pistols illegal for purchase. Everyone would bitch about it, but nothing else would happen. This just goes along with what I said before, what measures are people willing to take?.... If you're a decent person with good morals, unfortunately you just take it up the ass, and that's just what's going to happen with the majority of the firearm community. This place will turn to Comifornia if people aren't willing to do what is necessary.
Morse and Giron are going to feel what it is like to find out we are actually the majority, yes, the ones who attended at the State Capital on March 4th in mass. Their supporters were extremely far and few to be seen. We are the majority and these recall elections prove that. With any kind of luck, we can get these B.S. laws on the ballot next time around and remove them ourselves. State & Federal government no longer fears the people. This needs to change...but at what cost? As another member posted, are you prepared to do what it takes to beat them at their own game? I'm all for hitting below the belt when the need arises. When we get Giron and Morse recalled, it will be a big win for us and it shouldn't stop there. They work for us, and it's time to fire A LOT of their sorry asses.

Oregon Governor, Dem (last Rep Gov 1987), Both Senators, Dem. Four out of five Congress Dem. Both houses Dem controlled. Population in Portland holds over 50% of total population of Oregon. Then you have Eugene and So Oregon to add to the looniness.
I lived in Ore from 76 until 89 when I graduated pharmacy. It is a gorgeous and has many redeeming areas that would be great places to live. Funny our sign welcoming CA visitors for yeas on I5 use to read "Welcome to Oregon, we hope you enjoy your visit". Sadly the sign and attitude has changed.
Don't worry the progressives in Oregon won't be far behind CA they will march their own gun laws in no time. I will never live there again although I visit a couple times per year to visit family behind enemy lines

This. Apathy across the country is largely why Obama got a second term and the Denver a-holes got in. The Morse recall effort drew around 300 people to our organizational meetings but most of the work was done by fewer than 100 volunteers and the paid circulators. This battle is only lost if you walk around saying it's lost.

I still have around here somewhere a "Visa and Passport " application for Oregon. In the block "Birthplace" it notes if California to lie. Under picture it stated "We don't care what you look like as long as you look like you're not going to stay"
"This passport is good for 30 days and 30 nights, then the ark sails" "Any thoughts of settling down are grounds for immediate revocation."[Flower] Then of course the expression of the day could be summed up by this.
