View Full Version : A little bit of anti-cop bashing...
Mods, I'm totally serious here, this is dedicated to the act of not bashing cops and trying to at least educate people that not all cops are bad... I try to not lay judgement on a group of people simply because of the actions of a small number within that group. So this disturbed me when a "friend" posted the video to FB with the statement "This just made my motherf***in' day!" (Warning: ridiculous content ahead! And I'd highly advise not opening in YouTube and reading the comments- they're seriously screwed up!)

If you just watched that and said "WOW" you're not alone. I sure hope that place never has an armed robbery or vandalism or something.
But here's the bigger issue- I've noticed among friends/acquaintances who are those who blindly hate cops for the simple reason that "they're cops" a disturbing trend. Whenever I step in and ask for a little logic and reason and that people don't judge simply based on a person's profession (and I usually say "not all cops are bad, in fact, most that I've dealt with are decent folks") the responses sound strangely familiar to what racist people used to call white folks who defended blacks in the 1960's... I've actually be called, in a very derogatory nature, a "pig lover." What's the deal with that? I guess I can join in on the fun, I had an order at McDonald's get screwed up once, so based on that one instance I'm going to hate all McDonald's employees! [facepalm]

Most cops take orders, they're told what to do, how to do it & when to do it, like the rest of us. I don't need them to take care of me & I certainly don't count on them to protect me or my family..........but many people aren't as "strong minded" as I am & require babysitting. They choose to do this job & I see no reason to give them anymore or less respect than any other hardworking American.

Exactly.
I often ask why some of these people "hate all cops," and usually they tell about a bad experience, and I always end up having to ask them to clarify "so you broke the law?" The second they say yes to that question "well there you go! You can't get mad at the cop for doing his job, which is to enforce that law you broke!" Dumb.

My brother is a Denver cop and my best friend is a Aurora cop. Great guys and fun to be around. I have been on ride alongs with them and you couldn't pay me enough to do that job. I's an ugly job.

Absolutely agree, it's a thankless job and they deserve the same respect you'd give anyone else up to the point they as an individual do something to throw that out the window. That also includes following unlawful orders. I agree that they have a nasty job to do, and that they deal with crap that 90% of the population doesn't have the stomach for, but that also doesn't give excuse or license to be an asshole either.
Simply put, it depends on the officer, and how they act.

Obviously there are some that always come across as assholes. I'm only an asshole if you are one too.

Don't get me wrong I have a healthy distrust for the police (and all government for that matter) but agree with you, I have a few friends who do not like police at all. I try to reason with them but they continue to paint all Law Enforcement with a broad brush.
Some people have varying experiences with law enforcement which contributes to their perception of all the police.
Here is a neat article I read a few days ago about one guys odd experience with the police: http://www.vice.com/read/encounters-with-cops-in-new-york-city (http://www.vice.com/read/encounters-with-cops-in-new-york-city)

^ That article is funny as shit, haha. Working in NY is probably not the easiest of things to do.
As far as this thread, or more importantly the story this thread revolves around... a uniformed cop getting kicked out of a coffee shop for being a cop. Well, this is America, if he doesn't want cops in his shop, so be it. Probably a stupid financial decision as I imagine if he sells a good product, that cop and maybe other cops might have frequented there. But, it's shit shop, his rules.

His shop his rules. However where is the ACLU and other "OUTRAGED" people filing a law suit? After all if a same sex couple can get massive media attention and "status" support shouldn't everyone.
I don't like all cops, but a society without them is not someplace I want to be. Unless John Lennon was there. Imagine

Not all of us are bad but since at least 4 of the staff work for them......
I am not always fond of my boss as well since he just pledged 7B in aid for Africa but I get a 20% pay cut (gross) for the next 3 months.
Just a thought. [word][Muaha]

We have the same boss. I voted not to hire him and then I voted to fire him, but there are others who apparently want me to keep working for the man.
I follow orders, but not blindly. [Coffee]

Just another reason I'm glad to not be living on the Left Coast. The cafe manager is a freaking idiot.
