View Full Version : Damn Rabbits and my lawn
Any ideas on getting these A-holes from killing my lawn, costing me money and having to explain to the HOA board ffor my citations? I know what the easy answer would be (that's illegal) so looking for suggestions. Thanks.
Those crazy bastards use to eat all my moms chilli peppers.

There are soooo many this year. They drive my dog crazy because she can never catch them. She does keep them away though.
You can't shoot them in unincorporated areas? Get an outdoor cat or a dog you can trust off leash.
Been there before. None of the the stuff they sold at Home Depot worked. I ended up snaring and shooting them to fix the problem. A bunny humping tree hugger moved in next door last year so i tried only snaring them and the population exploded again. Good luck.

If only Man. If only LOL. I'm near the Southlands Mall on E-470 and Smoky Hill Rd. In a neighborhood and Home Depot behind me. No Bueno on a discharge. Pellet guns too, I think.
Get a big ass cat, my brothers cat tears them apart and leaves there organs/ head as gifts for them. He's like Jack the Ripper, never see any blood on him and he's the nicest cat to be around and I hate cats!
Suppressed .22.. Disposing of them in the garbage leads to questions however.

That's what neighbor's trash cans are for...[LOL]

pellet gun from inside the house...many many animals have meet an early end due to this
Hmmmm, maybe some [NunChaku] action? I'd try the pellet gun discreetly, though we do have some board members with suppressed .22's who might be willing to stop by for lunch or dinner at your place.
GAMO air rifle will the trick in the city...
Neighbors (or your local grocery store) trash can for disposal....
Allegedly..

I let mine live so I have something to eat when the SHTF.
I've got a gamo whisper or whatever they call it. I've had zero issues removing squirrels from various places even at 150' they drop.

Check your county ordinance. Douglas county is only restrictive on the noise level at the property line. No issue dispatching them little bastards from my patio door with a gamo .22 whisper head shot. One shot, one kill. [Sniper] [Muaha]

I have a great rabbit cacciatore recipe. My secret ingredient is rabbit raised on fresh herbs and vegetables from the neighborhood's gardens.

CCI "Quiet-22" out of a 26" barrel, unsuppressed, is more quiet than the Gamo Whisper.

So you're saying you have a 26" .22 that you're willing to take over and test out that theory? Awfully nice of you to volunteer to rid a fellow forum member of his rabbit problem.
I shot one today, then the neighbor mom with her 3 kids rounded the corner! [facepalm]
Benjamin multi pump air rifles are quiet compared to the break barrels. IMHO get one that is .22 cal for rabbits.
Shake-away from Ace Hardware.
I'll just drive up and down your street a few times. I hit them with my truck all the time.

Wascally wabbit.
That is all.
Poor rabbits, all they want to do is eat you lawn and hump.

I'm in the same general area. Aurora is a no-go for pellet guns, bow+arrow, and anything else fun. That being said, I am really close to hiding inside with my suppressed 22. Just waiting on my body armor, 50x power scope, and night vision goggles to get here.

Don't forget poop. There is a section of my lawn they really like that is more poop than grass at this point.

Buy the beer. I'll bring the rail mountable PVS-14 that we can mount behind a red dot..... We gonna grill or stew them?
My two Westies keep them out of my backyard. The bastards are in the front. Maybe I could use the noise of fireworks on the 4th as noise cover.

suppressed .22 gets my vote, just don't get caught.
Looks like in not the only one with this problem. I do have rat poison I could leave out, but I'd hate to have someone's off leash pet eat it.

Wrist rocket and 1/4" ball bearings, quiet enough that they often don't even flinch with near miss.

We have a rabbit problem too and unfortunately having a rabbit problem turns into having a rattle snake problem. Our neighborhood NW of Loveland made the Denver Post who last year did a story on rattlesnakes in neighborhoods. My idiot neighbors feed them all the time and don't realize why they had a 4' rattle snake sunning itself in their front yard. Idiots.

I'm waiting until October 1st then I am going to go after a few critters with my cold steel big bore blowgun I got from sportsmans... Not sure as to legality where you live though... But might be a thought! My dad lives in another state but he has shot several chipmunks and they have died rather quickly! I have been making darts with shishkibob skewers tipped with a x-acto Blade and I'm pretty sure it's going to be hell on squirrels so I'm sure it would work on rabbits... They are pretty thin skinned.. Heart shot you should be golden,.. As long as they don't run in the neighbors yard after you shoot them anyway. Cold steel still makes a broadhead for them just not a razor tipped one anymore.. But the broadhead penetrates awesome and when you hit something soft like the side of the rabbit the orange tip comes off and the metal dart goes all the way through... YouTube hunting rabbits with blowguns.. Tim wells and his buddy buck shoot a couple but they seem to run a little ways.. Practice and do head shots and you should be fine... As long as its legal? I have had a blast practicing with mine and can't wait to hunt small game with it

Use a pellet gun rated below 800 fps, then its quiet. You can get the wascally wabbit!!
The new high velocity ones sound like a 22.
Gammo Whisper rules the roost in my yard. 1000-1200 fps based on the pellets used. I usually get 1-2 a day. Walk them down to the north property line and the coyotes pick them up for a snack.
Bow or pellet gun. The bow is more fun. Messier, but more fun.
Should be able to put them into a bag and throw them in your own trash.

I've done this with no problems. The first one I shot with the CO2 pistol with hunting pellets took a shot in the head and jumped two feet in the air and just laid down dead. Or so I thought. Got a thick lawn trash bag to pick it up and as soon as I touched it, the SOB jumped up! Ram 10 feet them dropped again. Scared the shit out of me!
Should be able to put them into a bag and throw them in your own trash.
Then you better hunt only the day before your trash goes out. One little F***er reeked up my entire garage for five days

If it's too long before trash day just stick the bag in your freezer. Take it out on trash day...no smell. Just make sure the wife doesn't find Mr bunny sitting on top of her meatloaf.

You live in my neighborhood. Actually just a few blocks away. I use my .22 air rifle on them. Inside under cover of darkness. My neighbors like me and don't complain as long as I dispose of the bodies. Want me to come by after dark?
I enjoy the bunnies in our yard, they don't do enough damage to worry about. It's the goddamn squirrels that I hate, those bastards tear up my bird feeders and eat all the birdseed. There's been a couple dozen of those disappear in bags.

When I first moved into my new house,we HAD a rabbit problem. My first rabbit I shot was early morning and it was wounded so I let my dog finish it. Mistake #1. There is my dog shaking the rabbit to death getting fur ever where so in my great wisdom I go outside to get the dog to drop the rabbit. Mistake #2. Here I am playing tug of war against my dog with a dead rabbit in my pajamas. I look across the street, there is my new neighbor drinking coffee on her porch. Welcome to the neighborhood.

UPDATE: Drilldov2.0 offered his .22 pellet rifle for a week. No sooner than 2-min from meeting, a Momma bunny decides to make an appearance. I watched point while Drill took the shot. 1 down. No sooner do I get her bagged up Baby shows up. No, I didn't shoot it....yet. I had the wife and kid in the truck to go to dinner, so Baby can wait till later. Did mention how awesome the Members on this site are?! Thanks Guys.

I hope your rabbit eradication 2013 goes well! I haven't seen any around my house for a few days. Just give me a call when you are finished. You can borrow the pellet rifle any time. BTW, I don't think your wife liked my comment, "Oh look, a baby rabbit, she must be looking for momma" The loud, "AHHHHHH" from her was telling. lol. Have a good weekend with your family brother.

Between my wife, kids and myself we dispatch probably close to a dozen a month.
I use .22 Beeman's, 1100fps with open sights, I have one at the back door and another in my shop.
I just huck them in my wind break and they disappear.
I like the bunnies we have here.

I live in the same neighborhood and have the same issues. My wife and I planted a vegetable garden this year and they've been eating all of our vegetables. I've wacked half a dozen squirrels and a couple rabbits with my Gamo air rifle and have not had any issues. I am going to start getting a lot more aggressive with taking out the rabbits.
D-Con for squirrels, air rifle for rabbits.

Bunnies are great till they eat the wiring under your car. Wife just had $600 worth of damage done to her car from the fuzzy bastards.

Electric fence for the garden. I put up a battery powered one from Amazon and haven't had any issues with the garden yet. Squirrels and a raccoon destroyed my small attempt at a garden last year.
That was happening a bunch at DIA. Folks would park their cars in the long-term lots and they wouldn't start upon their return. Damn rabbits chewed the insulation off of the wiring.
Killed another rabbit the other day with my Bb gun. It went out with the grass clippings. Nasty thing had a bunch of fleas on it.
