Somehow the logic that being sprayed and tazed to understand the effect and have confidence in your equipment thankfully has not been applied to firearms and duty ammunition. It reminds me of the practical exercise at the suicide bomber training academy joke.

That's the thing. OC just sucks for me. I've been sprayed several times and just flat out don't like it, the after effects and all, but with the Tazer, once the electricity is turned off, its off and the pain stops. No residual effects, other than your orifices opening again.

Never been tazed, but have been hit with OC. It sucked, but wasn't as bad as Chem Mace, hate that stuff. Then again I didn't get the OC in my nose like my poor buddy. I thought he was going to die by the all the crying and screaming he was doing.

I think electricity just sikes me out more than anything, some are scared of heights, some are scared of electricity. I will admit, MK9 of Fox straight to the eyes is quite brutal!

About 10ish years ago when CSPD first got there tazers , I worked as a bouncer downtown. Long story short there was a small brawl going on, and I was a little to close to a guy that was way out of hand. I ended up catch a prong in the back of my arm. It was about like pulling a fishing hook out.

For the record I would take the shock over the OC any day. The OC seems to last forever.

CS makes it hard to breath and clears out your sinuses (lol). OC does that with the most intense burning sensation imaginable. And it doesn't go away as easily as CS. OC has oils in it that can stay on your clothing or in your skin for a while.

I mean even if you don't get hit directly there's splash back, wind, guy flailing around splatters the stuff in your face...you still have to subdue and detain even if your face is burning off so you should know what to expect. But what's the point of experiencing a Taser?

I see two scenarios of how an officer may get tased while on duty. Either

A) BG gets his hands on it and turns it on you. I don't think you stand much of a chance detaining him while he's got electrified prongs in you.
or B) you shoot yourself with the Taser. Then you're not very bright.

Either way I don't see how you taking a hit in training helps. Or maybe knowing what it feels like makes you try harder when weapons retention training comes up???

Drive stun (think stun gun) is mandatory for us, prongs are optional, no peer pressure or anything tho.....

It lets you know what it's like, so you are more likely to bust it out earlier and more often.

I've been OC'd a half dozen times or so. I react immediately to it but recover pretty quickly...less than 5 mins. I've never been tazed...don't really want to be tazed.

+1 for taser. Worst pain but it goes away however the OC doesn't. Although it feels good, washing your face with water only keeps the particles plastered to your face. Your supposed to let it dry and fall off, with a fan. Well I thought I was GTG and took a shower. I screamed bloody murder after it reignited the effects and continued to burn as it ran down south.

As far as doing it for training, I was incapacitated for the full 5 seconds. I will use that training to justify why I shot somebody with my handgun who had a taser pointed at me. Scenario: bad guy shoots you with taser, runs up and pulls your gun and your done. Hopefully I will never have to face that situation.

Got the OC when I was training up for Bosnia because I was on the list for arms room access since I had taken the armorer's course. The MP's convinced us that since we had access to the OC and beanbag rounds we had to know what it was like to be hit by them. So in the course of about 15 minutes I took a beanbag from a 12 gauge to the right thigh and a good dose of OC up the nose because I'm 6' even and the MP who hit me was 5' 2". Found out later it was all a line of [pileoshit] by the MP's that we had to do that.

Then at Drum my 1SG volunteered me for a MP demonstration of a tazer to see if a bigger guy could handle the ride more than a smaller one. I think I just had more muscle mass to clench up on me than the other guy, and it was more weight for the other two MP's to hold as I fell over.

I got the prongs and.....MOTHER OF GOD. I was seriously scared that when the ride stopped I would crap my pants from the release of tension. I can report that I did not crap my pants!

OC took me a full 24 hours to recover and I would sign up to ride the lightning any day over the OC. I don't even carry that crap anymore.

Exactly and then once they stop fighting you have to obviously go take them into custody so you get exposed to it no matter what.
