View Full Version : Looking for a left-handed AR15 - New guy from Colo Springs
This is my obligatory first post intro. I've got quite a few different handguns (Sig P220 .45, Sig P228 9mm, SA XDs .45, SA XDs 9mm, SA XDm 9mm). I only have one long rifle - a 410/22 combo rifle that my dad gave to me when I was 7 years old. I'm looking to get an AR with glass. I already bought quite a few 30 rd mags without even owning an AR, yet lol. Bought them for the obvious reason. I'll be doing a lot of searching on the net, but if you guys have any good suggestions for an AR15 for a left-handed shooter, I'd appreciate it. I'd like to keep it under $1500. I know that plenty of left-handed shooters shoot right-handed rifles just fine. I'm not going to say that I've ruled out getting a right-handed AR, but my initial preference would be to stick with left. I'm open to any comments and suggestions.
As far as ranges go, I alternate between Dragon Mans and the new Cheyenne Mountain Shooting complex.

Welcome!
Good thing you stocked up on mags. [Bang] Happy Independence Day!
My main shooting partner is a lefty. He runs a standard AR with all ambi controls, runs it like a boss! I'm sure some one in the Industy Partner section can find you some lefty parts for a build.
Probably looking at a Stag or Rock River. I'm also a lefty and have a right handed AR that I've outfitted with ambi controls. You get use to the brass slinging across your face pretty quick. [Coffee]
Welcome from a fellow lefty.
I've been running a Stag upper for a long time and it's a champ. The lefty tax gets old but you can totally outfit an AR and it's worth it. At least get an ambi safety. The mag release and charging handles are also pretty key but start to get costly. At least you can swap out parts over time and spread it out.

Welcome to the forum. You may want to check with Springs Armory. I know they are listed as a Stag dealer and of available they will treat you well.

Just like the others have mentioned i too have a standard rifle but will all ambi controls to allow me to shoot lefty. I have built my .22lr, 5.56, and .308 AR's all to have the exact feel and function so i can switch between them all relatively easily. I am not sure of any .22lr or .308's that are configured with the ejection port on the left side, so i stuck with the normal layout just to be consistent. if you never plan to own those calibers maybe that is not something you would need to consider but it is just what i wanted to do. happy shooting!

Welcome.
I too am a lefty and before I picked up a Stag Lefty I had a Colt SP1 CAR15 with the smallest brass deflector you could conceive. It flung the hot brass down my shirt every round. While I liked the Stag, which is a TRUE left-handed AR, there are some things you should consider before getting one.
First, the dust cover flips UP, not down and due to the configuration, to remove the dust cover you have to remove the barrel. Also, if you want a custom engraved cover you have to have it engraved upside down from regular engraving.
Next, as I said, the Stag Lefty is a TRUE lefty AR. This means that even the Bolt Carrier Group (BCG) is left-handed. It is NOT interchangeable with standard AR BCG's. If you need to replace it completely or even some of the main parts, you MUST get LEFT-HANDED BCG or parts. These aren't as readily available as one would hope.
My next personal build will be a right-handed AR with full ambi controls. I want something that I can easily get replacement parts for.

Welcome! You can easily get into the game with a nice rifle for under $1500, especially if you already have all the mags you need!

Hi
Thanks for all of the suggestions. Pretty sure I'm going to go with the Stag Arms Model 8L.

I picked up my left handed Stag 2TL from 5280 Armory in Arvada. They usually carry both Stag arms and Rock River in left handed and their prices are pretty good.
I'm surprised my comment about getting the 8L didn't spawn more comments. I know the Piston vs DI has created quite a few debates.
