View Full Version : Denied a Gun Purchase

Yep, I got denied. Here's the kicker: it wasn't by the ncic check, it was by the seller (he was the owner of the shop). His words were, "I gotta protect myself against the border hopping illegals." I almost lost it. I'm not anything that anyone could profile as an illegal border hopper; I'm Scandinavian, FFS!
Anyone else have stupid crap happen this weekend?
So what you are saying is that only people "of color" or are from "South of the Border" are the ones that cross the US border illegally and stay here illegally? That people from Europe or have a lighter complexion don't enter or stay in this country illegally? Really....
Wow, I can't believe I'm actually reading this...

Wow, I can't believe I'm actually reading this... The ones from Europe don't come over by the millions year after year for decades.
What shop was it? I am just curious if I have ever done any business with them.

Maybe he thought that DOD haircut looked a little too much like an ATF haircut. ;)
Failed a BGC just the other day... Come to find out I had a unpaid traffic violation...
Got it quashed at the court in 30 min....
Haven't retried.
I'm sure he's a good guy, his statement came off sounding wrong to me... He didn't say anything about skin color, but he did say he is "Scandinavian"... which does infer...
Also the other comment regarding coming here for decades by the millions... surely you're joking right? Cause, if my US History class from Middle school serves my memory correct, the people native to this country weren't from Europe, and I believe early on, Europeans came here en masse without an invitation by the people native to this continent...
Anyways, just pointing out something I thought to be interesting or ironic... But I knew by posting my response it wasn't going to be popular... oh well, I know where this going...

I can't believe you're reading that either... however, my disbelief is because you read something that isn't there.
(this is my surprised face)
With all due respect, why did you feel you needed to point out you were/are Scandinavian?

I'll repost the original with the corrections AR_ART needs to feel better about himself:

It's far away from the nearest international border...... My name also has a collection of letters that can only be interpreted as 'northern european'...
Apparently AR_ART's broomstick-removal operation didn't happen this weekend as originally planned.

Maybe the dealer thought the buyer was going to sell the purchase to an illegal? Also sick of the other side comments that our European ancestors were invaders in the past. Almost every country in the world has been invaded. I bet many of us would be quite surprised by what a DNA test would show about our history.Excuses excuses, it has been our country for over 200 years. Personally I feel that that we should be very careful about who we are letting in. When we do let someone immigrate that they are vetted as much as possible. The problem with our current latin American immigration problem is that they are jumping ahead of the line. There is NO diversity brought to the table by illegal Latin American immigration.

To be honest, I paraphrased the original conversation the seller and I had.
I showed him my ID, it's from out of state. Since this is a long gun purchase, that doesn't matter. He said no, I need to be a Texas resident.
I showed him a copy of my military orders making me a resident of Texas and my military ID. He said no, he's been burned by people showing Temporary Duty Orders. I helped show him how to read official Permanent Change of Station orders. I also told him that the largets military installation in the United States is 15 miles away, and there are lots of folks there who have disposable income. I can help him expand his potential client base. He still said nope, no military, only Texas State issued IDs.
I guess there's not a whole lot else that I could do to help show the guy how he could help his potential future business by understanding the papers uncle sam gives servicemembers.

As a European LEGAL immigrant and a US CITIZEN, I feel I should point out two things:
There are no natives:
If my history studies serve me correct, the first humans on this continent came across the Bering Strait, from Asia.
You see, as a lot of people like to point out, we are ALL immigrants, including the so-called natives.
I guess the poor buffaloes could bring the same argument: "We were here first, then this weird people on two legs came out of nowhere, UNINVITED, and started killing us by the millions".
So, the "natives" were invaded by a population that was technologically more advanced, with less "rules of engagement" , and since they were unable to unite against a common enemy until it was too late, they lost the war and their land and got slaughtered.
Guess what, it happened to every population on Earth at some time of another, get over it.
Like it or not we live in a European modeled Country:
I am assuming we all love the way the USA turned out (or at least until recently).
Guess what, it was modeled by Europeans, after ideals of Democracy that were originally postulated in Europe.
Had it stayed the way the Natives had it, we would still be chasing Buffaloes in the plains trying to put a meal on the table (did nobody realized that fencing in a Buffalo and a few females would result in more Buffaloes? No more chasing them around, they are right there in the backyard?).
So, next time you see one, hug a European! [Flower]

Agreed, and depending on your choice of how we as the human species came to be, one could say we originated from the Middle East (just one version) or we evolved from some African species...

Hm, at first I figured it would be Guns Galore in Killeen. What a bunch of a-holes that work in that place. But it's a lot closer than 15 miles from Hood. I'm interested to know what store it was, too.

Yup. My wife and I feel the same way about public signs given in other languages in addition to English. Want to be fair? Hey, immigrants come from many places ... why do these signs come in English and Spanish only? Where are the signs in Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Hindi, Tagalog, Indonesian, etc. etc. ??
Personally, I don't want to see any public sign in my native language because this is not my native country. This is United States and English is the official language.
This is United States and English is the official language.
English may be the dominant language but there is no 'official' language in the United States.

In all fairness, Texas is not an adjoining State. So long as you are a TX resident you're not going to clear any long gun checks in CO (and handgun is not an option)
Sorry but that is wrong. For long guns, adjoining State or non-adjoining State makes no difference any more and hasn't for quite some time now but you are certainly correct in that handguns are not even an option. [beatdeadhorse]

Federally yes. But find me a CBI clerk that will clear a non-adjoining DL license. (I have never found one) I've had the supervisors say no. Latest ATF inspector has also said no out of the denver office. Now, I myself know the laws very well and I can't find a damn one on the books that says no. But, because of the BS, Colorado - Texas (res) = no (reality). I am aware that theoretically, Colorado - Texas should be okay. Now Texas - Colorado (res) as some have posted is the case would probably be just fine, I doubt NCICs would throw any fuss at all.
We did it all the time at jensens. As long as you were not from a state that prohibited the long gun, CBI approved it. EXCEPT FOR CA residents. I know every lgs in NoCo i deal with any long gun and a valid DL CBI approves the sale. You can buy a hand gun PROVIDING you had a signed FFL copy. That enabled you to pay for the hand gun and FFL transfer & S&H fees. After being paid the hand gun is sent off to your ffl.

EXACTLY CORRECT. Don't know why it's so difficult for people to understand the above. The old requirement of being in an adjoining State doesn't mean anything anymore in the legal transfer of long guns. Right jim??

Adjoining states went away with FOPA 1986 at the federal level, as of 5/19/1986 - the same piece of legislation that allowed interstate/mail order ammo sales again, and outlawed new machineguns.
Colorado does still have a law on the books specifically ALLOWING purchases of long guns from FFLs by persons from adjoining states, but has no law forbidding purchases from persons not in adjoining states anymore, so those are legal, too.
California law requires purchases by its residents to be executed with a dealer record of sale (DROS), which can only be done by a California FFL - so while Colorado law would allow a California resident to purchase a long gun from an FFL here, California law forbids that transaction, and ATF/NICS will not approve those transfers.
