Hello, I think I am ready to go through the process to get a 5.56 suppressor. Are there any good shops you recommend close to littleton to help with paper work and have a good selection?

Thanks
Mike

Grand Prix Guns carries Surefire and Gemtech suppressors. It's in Littleton at the corner of County line road and Sante Fe in the second floor of Grand Prix Motorsports. We can look at ordering a specific one for you too.

We recommend doing the purchase through a trust.

I would highly recommend http://www.silencershop.com/. No, I am not sponsored or affiliated with them at all. Purchased an SWR Octane there earlier this year and they were very helpful and had a price $300 under MSRP on the can. So even with shipping and the $50 dealer fee, I got a helluva deal. Maybe check out cans at local shops then see if the site has them, because I can almost guarantee that Silencer Shop will be cheaper. Plus no sales tax. If you need help with the forms I might be able to help, or I could email you the checklist I got from Thunder Beast Arms for my first suppressor. It outlines the whole process and each box on the ATF paperwork.

10mm man / Double D armory is mfg suppressors. FWIW: the Form 3 transfer is running 30-60 days minimum. SO if you're an antsy , impatient guy , like islandermyk, find another hobby. If you don't mind the wait for something well worth it, consider a few nfa items at the same time,. Like say SBR'ing a lower.

I think that this is the same step that I am at as well. I just need to decide which direction I want to go. I have been going back and forth on a NFA trust and just cant make up my mind. The issue is that I currently have no one that wants to be on the trust making it useless. The rest of my family really wants nothing to do with the ATF or having their name on paper for anything. So there really are not any advantages for me to pay to set one up.

The second thing that I need to figure out is what can I want to get. I think that I want only one can that works on both 9mm and 300BLK that I can swap back and forth. But I might just go for separate cans so that I can run supersonics as well from the 300 blk without taking it off.

Too many damn choices.

Just do the NFA items in your name, only. My 1st 4 were done that way. Now it's all trust based. One day when i'm rich and infamous, i'll transfer the older items to the trust.

Liberty Mystic (http://www.libertycans.net/mystic.html). Nice can, check out the list of "supported" calibers! Currently mine's mounted on a Thompson Center Contender SBR in .357 Magnum.

Buying NFA outside of Colorado will cost you time (2 months added on to your Form 4 wait time) with the Form 3 (out of state dealer to in-state dealer transfer) and whatever fee the in-state dealer charges for the transfer.

Machine Gun Tours has a decent selection. Most of the guys in there are NFA knowledgeable. Plus they are in Unincorporated Jeffco so their sales tax is lower than most.

Thanks for all the help. I will contact nfa guy since I want to go the trust route. I have no problem taking a drive but if there was a good shop close to littleton I was going to start there first. I have checked out silencershop but I am more of a face to face person, especially for my first one (or 2, thinking of a dedicated .22lr suppressor also). Also did not know about the extended wait time for the form 3 so thanks on the heads up for that. I will get in contact with the recommendations made and again, thanks for the help.

FWIW Form 3 transfers are now at 77 days, and going to 90, according to NFA Branch. Sequestration cut their temp workers, and the popularity of suppressors is hitting them hard. Some areas of the US will be shorter, but its going to hit all areas.

I am seeing about 60 days right now on Form 3s but it is definitely getting longer.

Right now it's looking like 9 months. Might as well plan on not seeing it for a year at this point.

Guess I will have plenty of time to get my optic and stock up on more ammo.

I put in a Form 1 back in late December (still don't have it yet) At the time the wait was 6 months but I have heard they were telling people a several months back it was out to 9 months. Probably getting closer to a year by now I would imagine. I am sure they are flooded but I also think they are slow rolling them?

I am in no way making excuses for the NFA Branch that is for sure because they frustrate me to no end but they lost half of their contractor staff and all overtime for the examiners was cut due to sequestration. The wait times were already ridiculous so this just made a bad situation that much worse. Whether they are slow rolling them or not I don't know but nothing would surprise me.

I didn't realize they had been cutback.

I still believe there is a built in "hold". In this day and age of electronic data transfer/info there is no reason this process should take more then 30 days at most. I am sure there is no interested or hurry to streamline this process with the current administration that is in place.

That aside a Suppressor is on my list so I'll definitely look you up!

I know the American Silencer Association has tried over the last year or so to help them to get more funding for additional examiners from Congress as well as to find ways to streamline the process and they have not been very receptive.

When you are ready to start you suppressor addiction just let me know I will be happy to help :)
