View Full Version : any dog trainers on here i need some advice
if you work around big aggressive working dogs(not the little foo foo ones) I am dealing with littermate syndrome with my year old hog dogs and am completely beyond frustrated these two sisters just started beating the crap out of each other and I'm unsure what's the next step I don't want to get rid of either one
When they went in on a badger nest together they worked perfectly in tandem just like they should but when there sitting around watching the tv they explode out of no where
They're women. What do you expect?
That sucks man.
Google?
You're not alone though, I was talking to a lady yesterday that had to split hers up a few years back.

If you want a reasonable dog you should have got males and neutered them. Our females have ALL been handfuls. Two? About the same age? Yikes. Sounds like their cycles have synced up. Good luck with all that.
Dominance games are no fun.. You need to step in hard -- if that doesn't work then you have to break them up.
In classic littermate syndrome the dogs don't work well when separated -- they learn to rely on each other too much. Is that what is going on - or is one trying to constantly instigate with the other?
The only other things you can do is to make sure you
Feed them separately
Play with them separately
Train them separately (as appropriate)
Discipline them separately

Do you separate them every time they get aggressive towards each other?
They are stacked in crates on top of one another when they have gotten into it it like one crate on top of the other
Asmo maybe it's not literate syndrome then there just starting shit with each other
I woulda kept the boys out of my litter(monkey got one of the two) but I wanted girls cause they are nastier and I tend to bond more with girl dogs
Unless you are trying to enforce a hierarchy I wouldn't recommend stacking the crates as part of their normal sleeping/daily arrangement. Temporary its fine but over time that can cause issue.
If they are just starting shit with each other then its a dominance thing - they are trying to find their role in the pack. As the alpha you need to put a stop to that quickly and harshly when it happens (just like if they were in a pack in the wild). Note that by 'harshly' I don't mean you need to beat the dogs (or usually lay a finger on them - but sometimes a hard pinch in the ass works wonders), I mean you need to be absolutely dominate and aggressive. Its a force of will game, and you need to show definitively that you do not approve of the actions. Also, if there is another female around (wife, kid, etc.) make sure they aren't getting upset when this is going on, that leads to all sorts of other problems.
If you have one that is consistently trying to 'correct' the other one then there is a human mis-cue going on.
