View Full Version : WaPo- Kokesh in the news... again. ARRESTED
Remember this guy, Adam Kokesh, the former marine who wanted to do that armed march on DC for the 4th? Well that fell through because DCPD said they would arrest anyone illegally carrying a firearm, loaded or not, into the DC Metro area (which in that city pretty much every firearm is illegal). Instead, this happens now:
Adam Kokesh, gun-rights activist, charged after raid
Adam Kokesh (http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/activist-adam-kokesh-has-history-of-rabble-rousing-and-self-promotion/2013/05/13/95a0ddcc-b986-11e2-bd07-b6e0e6152528_story.html) and libertarian activists expected to provoke a police response when he posted a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sAGGoPidEY) of himself apparently loading a shotgun on Freedom Plaza in violation of D.C. law on the Fourth of July, but it arrived on his doorstep with an overwhelming boom Tuesday night.
A U.S. Park Police SWAT team and other officers knocked on the door of his single-family home on a quiet Herndon cul-de-sac, then kicked the door in and tossed a flash grenade into the foyer as police helicopters whirled overhead, his roommates said.
The rabble-rouser and Iraq war veteran who promised “we will not obey” on the video and has advocated for overthrow of the government “by whatever means necessary” was removed in handcuffs and charged with possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms while possessing a firearm, according to court papers. His housemates allege that they were mistreated by police, who they say used too much force.
Park Police Lt. Pamela Smith said the agency has “chosen not to respond” to those allegations because of the ongoing investigation. Park Police also would not comment on the roommates’ characterization of what happened inside the home. It was unclear if charges would be filed related to the July 4 video on YouTube.
Smith would say only that her agency executed a search warrant at a Snowflake Court home about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, looking for an unspecified weapon. The agency is responsible for policing Freedom Plaza, the park a few blocks from the White House where Kokesh filmed his video.
One roommate who saw the search warrant said police were looking for the gun and raw footage from the July 4 video. The housemates say officers took that weapon, files and other items.
...
As roommates cooked dinner and Kokesh napped, several of the residents heard a thump at the door. Then another knock. Finally, the door burst open, the flash grenade was lobbed inside and the house filled with smoke.
Officers poured in. Kokesh was separated from the housemates, who were handcuffed and herded into a room, they said. They estimated that 30 to 40 officers participated in the raid.
Over the next five hours, the roommates said, officers combed through the house, looking through books, emptying closets and cracking a safe owned by Kokesh.
...
In the July 4 video, Kokesh is seen loading rounds into what appears to be a shotgun as the Capitol looms in the distance.
When Kokesh posted the video, D.C. police and U.S. Park Police said they would investigate, because it is illegal to carry a loaded weapon in public in the District. It came in the wake of his plan to lead a march of gun-toting people from Arlington County to the District, which he later canceled.

His execution is idiotic at best... Honestly, if you publicly advocate to overthrow the government by "any means necessary," and they see you do something potentially illegal in a video you post, you can't claim to be surprised when they get a warrant and knock down your front door. What a dunce!
When I hear about stuff like this happening it’s embarrassing for gun owners and our rights that are continually being challenged by the liberals.
Let’s just hope his genes don’t get passed on to another generation……

Well sure, a video of loading a gun in a park is more than adequate justification to kick in your door and flash-bang you! Think of the children! But where are the "ima riot!" & "gonna kill a cracker!" tweets? Oh the huge manatee!

At least he is actually doing something.. Unlike us, just bitching on another silly gun forum.

So are you advocating for a violent overthrow of the government? That's doing something alright...Just ask Tim McVeigh he did something too.
I'm sorry but this guy is a loon, i used to sympathize with him at first but when he aligned himself with the Putin funded RT network he made himself out to be a total hypocrite.
What I'm saying is he actually has some BALLS to go out and exercise his 2nd and 1st amendment rights. I might not agree with everything he says but he's not afraid to push the limits and challenge authority.
And just so you remember, the founders violently overthrew their government as well.

I may not agree with everything this guy does, but I can say with all certainty that executing a no knock raid, especially with that level of intensity (armored vehicle, helicopter, 40 swat officers ect..) over this video is an obvious .gov message to any would be 2a "agitators."
Well, let the record reflect that if you break firearms laws in DC on video to prove a point, they're coming after you.

What's he doing that's going to further the pro-gun, pro 2A cause? He's being a dumbass. If that's what "doing something" is about, I'll pass.

Apparently you don't have rational thought..... As I will also point out, ya, the dumb shit was at least trying to change things, and open up people's eyes. What most of the people on the board do to help things out? Not a damn thing other than sit here and bitch about what is going on. This guy is getting into the thick of it (in a really stupid way...), and at least putting forth effort. I'm pretty sure that is all bryjcom was saying. Ya, he could have petitioned, marched, picketed, or something less retarded, but he still tried (in his own retarded way) to do something.
You don't need to respond (like many do) with a completely left field dumb ass comment.

Where's the nod in agreement smiley... Shame that this guy is yet another crazy face to the cause, when it should be someone more respectable by the masses. I'm sure Bailey will agree, we'd rather someone get in the news for a positive reason to help support the fight against the liberal anti-gun agenda than some guy with his heart in the right place, but head up his ass getting arrested and making the uneducated masses think we're all nuts like him.

Speak for yourself- many of us here participated in the rallies at the capital, the debate over the current gun bills, and (like myself) donated to the lawsuit the CO Sheriff's are pushing. I try and help as much as my time and wallet can afford- I wrote my checks, made my phone calls, sent letters/emails and stood in support of folks like Sheriff Cooke and Sen Brophy.

Indeed. I think the guy's a bit unhinged, but A) as others have said, at least he has the balls to speak out, and B) that does seem excessive, particularly after, as the earlier pic showed, they let a "newsie" off the hook because he is a leftist.
Instead of you guys bitching about what Adam did, why dont you take the double standard that Adam exposed and call the D.C. Police and say to them, " Since you guys are now enforcing D.C. Gun laws, when are charges going to be brought against David Gregory?"
I'll provide the appropiate phone # for you guys when I get home later today

That'll never work- David Gregory is a liberal... they don't charge liberals with "reporting the news" regardless of how many laws they break. Where have you been the past 10 years? [Sarcasm2]

So you're going to back up the "most" on the board huh? Do you think that "most" have done anything? Do you know this somehow? Do you know how many are a part of this board?
I wasn't pointing you out was I? Feeling guilty or something? Congratulations for sending in money, calling people, and sending letters. You're fucking amazing, unfortunately, I've done the same shit, so get over it. Also, I don't think the little things like that compare to those that go down to the meetings and make themselves heard, or other equally involved things.
For those of you that have made your voices heard, I congratulate you.

First of all, anyone who chooses is entitled to bitch whether you like it or not, and whether or not they "support the cause" to your standards or not. It's that whole 1st Amend thing you mentioned. Secondly, you can waste your time calling DC police re: David Gregory and his magazine stunt all you like. But that ship has sailed and it ain't coming back, regardless of the number of phone calls DC police receive. There was a huge national outcry when he did that and look what happened.
Not everyone who "does something" to further the pro-gun cause needs to report their activities to you. You don't have a clue what most members of this forum or any other forum do (or don't do) to further the 2A cause.
What Adam Kokesh did was nothing short of idiotic and he'll be remembered by most rational people on both sides of the issue as a moron. And frankly, anyone who advocates violent overthrow of the government (at least at the stage we're at now), deserves to be locked up. I'm not saying it should never happen, but we certainly aren't at that point yet. Maybe you have some sort of romantic vision of what a revolution might look like. I don't think it will be anything like most people envision.
If Kokesh was such a fighter, why did he go peacefully when the SWAT team kicked in his door?
Oh geez...... Another long winded response from Bailey arguing semantics.... Never said you cant bitch
All I'm saying is if we took half the energy that we used in "bitching to the choir" and used it towards the people count, then maybe we would get somewhere..
I for one am glad there are people who are willing to engage in civil disobedience. Its the ones that are compliant that should be getting bitched at.

The Wiki page on Kokesh has some pretty interesting information. I get the feeling he thinks rules, laws and procedures don't apply to him.
ETA: Does anyone else see the irony in a guy breaking the law in protest of people breaking the law? It's too bad his run for congress was unsuccessful. He'd be a perfect politician.
Shame that this guy is yet another crazy face to the cause

Didn't folks already establish a solid connection between Kokesh, Code Pink, and other anti-gun activists?

Woah, easy turbo. Let me clarify since it might have slipped past you- by "Most" I mean the usually active (mostly daily) members on here that have been pretty vocal on the current issue. I know this because, well I've met a couple, and heard their stories of what they've done in the fight on here. I like to give folks the benefit of the doubt when they say "Yes, I was at the capital" or "sent many emails and called my state reps." I don't feel guilty, I just feel your comment about how people aren't helping by sitting on a message board bitching are doing nothing wasn't accurate. That is what you said- you stated that most on here (again my perception of what is considered "most") that have been "bitching" and are vocal about this, actually have done more than just sit here and complain. I've made my voice heard, I've spoken up, I've talked before a room full of people trying to tell our representatives what our views are, I've gone out of my way to educate those people who are unaware of what's going on or what's at stake. I know several on here who have done the same. I don't need recognition, congratulations or a pat on the back, but I would appreciate the naysayers on here to refrain from making broad and inaccurate statements about how "most" of us on here do nothing but bitch. That's all. And for the record, I wouldn't call it "bitching" I would call it "discussing." If it weren't for this board, I probably wouldn't have been nearly as informed on a lot of the goings on with these and other issues. [Beer]
ETA: Some of us could only do as much as write and call and send money to the independence institute or the recall campaigns... especially when the debates at the capital were during normal work hours. FWIW.

You know, with you being polite, and well mannered and such, I can't have some kind of rant..... When I say "most" I mean, the entire board/forum though. Oh, and I think that the term "bitching", is way more accurate to some of the rants and comments on this board, than the term discussing. :)

Have you checked the amount of people on here? There's a lot, so your "most" is very accurate- although we can't know for sure because it seems as if a lot sign up to just take a peek at what "evil gun talk" is going on, or troll the trading post. And I though most of the rants on here came with the rant warning in the title? [Tooth]

I wasn't able to do as much as I would've liked. Wrote a few emails to representatives, wrote a bunch of comments on local news stories, and drove around the Capitol for a few hours wearing out my horn.

I wrote a few letters, gave a few days' pay, and wasted a day getting screwed out of a chance to speak at the Senate hearings. And I still think that a CodePink-affiliated shroom-eating dipshit is not the sort of "help" we need. Especially not with the CP affiliation, which screams agente provocateur to me.

So McVeigh was trying to do things and open peoples eyes as well by blowing up a federal building, both advocated for the violent overthrow of the government, McVeigh just put his money where his moth is.
And if you are so cavalier why don't you do something as provocative as Kokesh? Go film yourself in Denver open carrying a ar15 with a 30 round mag; post it on Youtube for the whole world to see--till then you don't have any room to argue about doing enough.

THIS!
ImNtUrBuddyGuy- you can't draw a comparison, even with the motives, between McVeigh and Kokesh. Sure they're both nuts (well McVeigh in the past tense was nuts- now he's just roasting on a spit in hell), but Kokesh isn't calling for the murder of innocent people. That's quite a reach there, I don't see blowing up a building in a major city is "putting your money where your mouth is", I see that as "you are now no better than bin Laden and his gang of followers- enjoy hell asshole!"

Um, did you not see my previous post where I called the kid stupid for "his" way of doing things? The point was, he actually tried to get out there personally, to do something. I will say it again to see if you can understand this time with a little re-wording......
He could have made his voice heard in a much better way, unfortunately, he did it in a stupid way. The thing is though, at least he did something more than mailers, calls, and donations. Yes, what he did was absolutely stupid, and I don't think that was the right way to go about making your voice heard. He could have held up a sign at the capitol, made a catchy youtube video, or could have been creative in some other way to get heard.
