So I stopped smoking them about 12 years ago.I used to get them (Cobano's) regularly from Mexico when I would go down there. I used to manufacture cabinets their and import them for construction projects I did. Once I realized that it took jobs from my people here I stopped. Anyway so did the smoking of Cubans.
Recently though I started up the habit. I'm not an aficionado, so I could use some help! With Cubans it was a no brainer.
Anyone else smoke? Recommendations?

Go to the shop on southbound Broadway, between Dartmouth and Hampden. Edwards, I think it's called. Tell them which ISOMs you liked and they'll try and find something similar that's legal.
Another shpo I like is in Lakewood, Alameda and Teller, in the same mall as the Big 5.
Any more, I get most of mine from CBid (http://www.cigarbid.com) or CigarMonster (http://www.cigarmonster.com). I love me some La Aurora 100 Anos, some My Uzi Weighs a Ton, and just about everything in the Man O'War line.
Gave them up when I quit drinking but I always liked a good Macanudo.

I like Arturo Fuente Short Story's.
One of the guys at work smokes some kind of gas station cigars. Looks like something some hillbilly rolled on his porch. They are really quite good for a low end cigar. I've had a few of them.
I remember somebody put out a catalog, and for the life of me I can't remember the name-but they had all kinds of sample packs that were pretty decent for the money.

Those are probably "backwoods",For by for a bonfire kind of night. On occasion I enjoy a "dirt torpedo", super smooth and sweet.

Glad to see some aficionado's in here! Looks like I have a few directions to go in now! Was out tonight at Stogie and Bogies, stopped in there last weekend and tried one that the guy said was from the Dominican Republic. Pretty tasty I must say!!
Kept thinking we should prob have a Stogie and guns day at the range....

My favorite is the Liga Privada #9 by Drew Estate. Sometimes they can be hard to come by and are pretty expensive. Worth it, though. Great cigar.

I've tried hundreds of cigars and I now only smoke the La Gloria Cubana Serie R. It's a heavy smoke, but real close to a Cuban.
It depends on how much you want to spend, and how many you want to buy. Best deals are the online suppliers like JR Cigars and BestCigarPrices.com. Best prices are by the box.
We've smoked hundreds of Romeo and Julietta cigars. Excellent, consistent, and fairly priced. For less money, try LaUnica. They burn a little faster, but are otherwise superb. For more money, Ashton is a favorite. For the ultimate, a Cuban Montecristo #2.
Next time you're in the neighborhood, stop in and we will have one.
Quit cigarettes a couple years back and I was smoke free for about 8 months until my brother in law brought a couple Cubans to Christmas and I have been smoking swisher mini cigarillos ever since. Acids are a pretty good cigar for a cheaper decent cigar.

I have a prototype AR 15 w/ 420 green tips and 500 mixed lot FMJ waiting to be fired and tested by you. Having an offer to have a stogie as well, I am on the road your way anytime!
Heck, you can have two cigars.

Mike`s cigars out of Florida has good prices... I like a good maduro.
10mm send me a PM I have a few left from when I was able to smoke. Even have a few of those from that island.
Personally, as I used to be a pretty big cigar guy, I think you can do better than Cubans- yeah they're good, but most of their appeal to Americans is the fact that they're illegal... the rebellious aspect. I like Dominicans, mostly because the flavor and robust nature (and go great with a glass of brandy or bourbon). I'd have to say my favorites are Arturo Fuente, CAO, and Montecristo but I'll delve into Cohibas and Onyx makes some really good cigars. One of my favorites downrange that I ordered were the CAO Soprano Edition ones, they were very good. But alas, I haven't smoked a cigar in probably 2 years. centrarchidae is spot on with Edwards- they're great there and usually will give some really good recommendations as to what you should try.

Very nice recommendations fella's! I am confused on which to start with,....
On another note: I am not much of a bourbon drinker, scotch or even brandy. I just don't like any of them, and have tried them, but it is a no go. So any good recommendations on a favorite drink, or how you guys like to enjoy them?
Asking for a recommendation on a "good cigar" is analog to asking "what gun should I buy."

The clean robusto natural by drew estate was my favorite back when I was smoking cigars regularly.

I was just going off of what the manager (probably no longer there as this was about 7 years ago) of Edwards advised when I used to go there, bourbon and brandy go well with a cigar. Another go-to if you want, that helps with the flavor and compliments each other well is cola... then again I rarely ever smoke a cigar (when I did) without a beverage of some kind. Beer usually isn't the best to compliment a cigar, though.
Edwards Tobacco on Broadway, just n. of Hampden. Great shop, been going there for years. Excellent selection, good prices, friendly, knowledgable staff, smoking lounge in back, 10% discount on Fridays after 3, and 2 gun shops within walking distance! Everyone should pop into M.W. Reynolds sometime just to gawk at the 4- and 5-figure sporting guns they have. Not what you'd expect to find on Broadway amongst the pot shops.
I smoke A. Fuente Cubanitos, small cigars that come in a tin. Very good, I just don't care for full-size cigars much. Take so long to smoke, and I'll have a headache by the time I'm done.
From what I've read, there's just as many crappy bootleg "Cuban" cigars actually produced in Cuba as bootleg Cubans from anywhere else. Just because they come from Cuba and may have a high-end Cuban brand name on them doesn't mean they're genuine and really from that maker. And all the big-name cigar makers have long since started operations in other Caribbean countries nearby to get around the embargo, and they all use Cuban seed tobacco anyway, so it's kind of a non-issue. Cohibas from Honduras are just as tasty as Cuban Cohibas.

In order or preference:
Don Carlos
Macanudos (cuban when on a cruise or in Canada)
Monte Christo
Swisher Sweets (yeah, I know)
Btw: We were on the Canadian side of Niagra recenty and passed a cigar shop, no place to park so I let my wife out with instructions to buy me a Macanudo. She got back into the car with one at $75 with tax! I was expecting $10 or $15, it was good but not worth $75!
Off topic, but I plan to smoke a pipe when I get older. [Coffee]
I remember somebody put out a catalog, and for the life of me I can't remember the name-but they had all kinds of sample packs that were pretty decent for the money.
JR Cigar - www.jrcigars.com/
I enjoy Montecristo #1's for a smooth but still reasonably full smoke. I'll go with a Kuba Kuba if I want something with other than tobacco flavor in a still regular looking cigar. If I want a quick smoke I actually grab clove cigarettes, Djarum blacks. If you aren't into any whiskies, I sometimes go with a cab sauv, or another heavy red wine when I smoke. You need something like a whiskey or heavy red to cut through the tobacco flavor and the fact that your taste buds lose sensitivity when you smoke. Scotch on the rocks is my other choice when smoking.
Another shpo I like is in Lakewood, Alameda and Teller, in the same mall as the Big 5.
Tobacco Leaf
I like Drew Estate stuff. Juciy Lucy and Root. Probably not the kind of recommendation you were looking for on the Juicy Lucy, but I'd give the Root a try.
I smoke cigars, but don't pay attention to brands enough to remember what was good or not, except anything by Drew Estate (including Acid). I've tried dipping the tip of the cigar in Sambuca every few drags.
I really prefer pipes over cigars. Much more smooth, and I like the flavor as well. Your house/car/whatever usually recovers from the smoke smell quicker as well.
JR Cigar - www.jrcigars (http://www.jrcigars).com/
I love JRs. For a cheaper smoke try one of their alternatives, or I like Nicaraguan cigars. They post a weekly special every Wednesday.

Probably Thompson Cigar Co., I've bought from them before and the shit was old and dried out. Best bet is to buy 'em local and support the local businessman.

I like coffee, ice water, or iced tea. Or maybe Mexican coke, the kind with real sugar instead of corn syrup.
Not a fan of beer. Hops and cigars don't work well together.
ETA: Last year, I had a La Aurora Cien Anos perfecto and a bottle or two of Mexican coke for my birthday cigar. They went together so well that I think it will become a tradition of mine.
Also, if you're not sure where to start, start mild. Most Macanudos are pretty mild, as are the Oliva Connecticut Reserve (Edward's and The Tobacco Leaf both keep them in stock at a decent price, and they're probably my favorite connie-wrapped cigar.)
Of the Drew Estate cigars...I freaking love the T52's but they're hard to find and spendy when you do, and the My Uzi Weighs a Ton, which are a little potent if you're not used to them. The only infused ones I liked all that much were the DE Naturals. I thought the others had too much of the flavoring. Someone else once told me that he thought the DE Acid Kuba Kuba was like smoking an air freshener, and I can see (taste?) where he gets that from.

I like some of the Acids from Drew Estates. Blondie and KubaKuba.
A cold Guinness with a good Cuban Bolivar Corona-Gigantes, while in the lounge at the Intercontinental in Hong Kong is truly tough to beat...even if comparing to the various options in Habana such as the Hotel Americana.....or so I'm told....:

So, you guys that like the Acid line - any of you ever try Lars Tetens cigars? I used to nab a couple of those now and then, and I "think" the Acid line is somehow related. The Tetens had the same kind of aromas, flavorings and construction. Definitely not for everybody.

Absolutely head on over to Edwards on Broadway. Best smoke shop in town.
La Aroma De Cuba is one Ive been into lately, as well as Casa Magna. But yea, Edwards all the way.
As far as Beverages with cigars. I bought a nice espresso machine specifically for making various coffee drinks to compliment my cigars . one of the best purchases Ive made in a while.
Tell JM to grab a couple from me next time he sees me... You won't be disappointed

Rub it in... I probably, in my line of work or future line of work, will never make my way to HK... Now you have my envy in being able to do such a thing. Sure beats smoking Cubans purchased from a Dutch store in Afghanistan while looking at dirt mountains (look west, imagine those mountains without vegetation, that was my view for a year).

31501So I went over to Edwards and picked up a few cigars. Very nice smoke shop! Nice guys, helped me w/ selection. Not bad on price either, stood in the lower range since I smoked a couple exspensive ones thos wekend already.
I figure ill keep going back untill I smoke all the ones suggested. Except for the blunt Ray recommended.
Edit: seeing how its a gun forum; thought I would add an EDC pic.
The reason I go to Edwards - when we first moved here in '96 we were in an apartment in Littleton, and I was jonesing for some 'gars. Looked in the phone book, and Edwards looked to be the closest. I called and got the owner, Bryan, but it was after closing on Sunday and he was leaving. But he offered to package up what I wanted, and leave it in the BBQ grill out back with the price, and I could just slide a check under the back door!
I didn't take the offer because I didn't know what I wanted, but he didn't know me from a bag of assholes yet made the offer anyway! That right there earned my loyal business ever since. Besides the fact it's a great shop anyway.

Sounds like the kind of place I would go if I was in the market for some cigars.

AGREED! I'll tell you what; the guy who helped me(sounds like this guy) was very cool, help full and walked me around the humidor explaining things! I'll go back, no doubt.
Edit: La Aroma D Cuba taste excellente'....
They used to hand out a freebie every Friday, and also had free beers on Friday. But the suppliers cut out the freebies and I think they got a talking-to about the beer. Now they just have a 10% discount on Fridays. Lotta cool antiques in there too, Bryan's quite a collector. In their old shop next door, the sales counter was a bar that used to belong to Minnesota Fats, the pool player.
Go there during the week if you can, and walk a couple doors down to MW Reynolds and check out their guns. They sell high-end shotguns and rifles to rich guys, African safari type stuff. Need some .500, .600, or .700 Nitro Exress ammo? They have it.

lots of good recommendations on here, I'll add my .02ยข and cast my vote for Arturo Fuente (Dominican) cigars....If you look around some of the local smoke shops you can find their holiday collection (SF on 120th & Colorado had some a few weeks ago) which has a nice sample if you want to try a few out (all are excellent and available individually)....
As for a sipping drink to go with, this is something that has caught my interest as well over the last few years, and have been working on developing a taste for scotch (still at the low end of the scale, can't stand the stuff that tastes like what I would imagine Scottish dirt tastes like....)

I enjoyed the American Classic Blends from Alec Bradley. And their Prensado was the smoke of the year in 2012 I believe, I had one but my boss stole it from me on Friday afternoon during happy hour.
Recently tried H Upmann's new Legacy, and it was pretty good.
I don't think there's been a Rocky Patel I didn't enjoy either.
Does anyone have experience with Palma Cigars?
I know they roll in Denver, but I've yet to smoke one. http://www.palmacigars.com/
Never heard of Palmas, might have to try one.
I didn't hear anyone mention Ashton's, Gurkhas, Padilla or perdomo. Understand the leaf and the filler to the smokes you enjoy will lead you down a good path. Candela the green wrappers are a nice mild to mid with a bit a evolution to help develop your palate. Depending on time of day, what you've eaten or are drinking all are factors.
Someone mentioned it earlier and I agree. When Cuba shut or acquired down the tobacoo industry it forced all growers to move else to maintain their fields.
The Dominican is producing some of the best sticks you can get.
Cigars international is a great place to pick up sampler packs. If your ever up north hit me up.

Anyone have a template or log? I had this one pictured tonight, tasted pretty good! Medium, light spice, fast burning, lots of smoke coming off it unlike others.
Would like to know how to properly rate it.... Or at least explain the proper properties, (so you guys could make a good decision); if you wanted to try it as well.

Man, How did I miss this thread???
I like a good cigar too.
Some of the ones I prefer are:
H. Upmann vintage Cameroon
Perdomo reserve champaign noir
any of the Rocky Patels
As for what I consider the best bargain cigar: La Finca through JR Cigars. They are about $2-$2.50 a piece if you buy a bundle, and they are definately worth more.
Karl
Looks like I missed it as well.
I probably smoke two cigars a year. Used to me more into it but just can't find the time lately. Off the top of my head I'd say Macanudo, Arturo Fuente and Montecristo in a robusto. Usually with a strong coffee or IPA.
I like a cigar with a strong cup of coffee too, or well aged rum on the rocks.
I don't smoke very often so it is a real treat to find a day I can smoke one . :)
