AURORA - The Aurora Fire Department has contained a house fire Saturday morning that destroyed the garage of the house.
The fire department says there were 'multiple rounds' of ammunition inside the house on the 4600 block of Norfolk Way.
Witnesses said they could hear the ammunition go off as firefighters poured water on the house.
One man inside the home was transported to a local hospital to be treated for burns.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
OMG!! What a waste of ammo... facepalm

Hope everyone is ok and its no one on here, i know most of us keep more than that on hand anyways.

So ammo explodes now, huh? That's an interesting development. My physics and chemistry professors taught me that gunpowder does not explode. It just burns. Well, it is "TheDenverChannel" so I guess I better take their word for it. [facepalm]

There is a saami video where they set a pallet of ammo on fire.....no explosions

Aurora has its own laws of physics and chemistry.

Ohhhhhhhh! Now I understand why they are so f*cking backwards!

There was a house garage in Aurora burned down with chemical and 2000 rds of ammo stored in it. It wasn't long before 7news jump on soapbox and talk about the danger of ammo in civilian hands, and they just had to include that there are still 1000 more ammo else where in the house....
In the picture you can see my comment attempting to spread the facts, but i don't expect it to go anywhere considering the one comment said gun owners are paranoid has 10 likes already.

Register all ammo with local fire authorities and a permint is required for anything over 50 rds.
Sometimes I swear, there is no end to this chit!

That is very close to the ammo law in Italy, except the they have maxium limit of 200 rounds, and when you go to the range, an officer has to count how many you shot.
-two THOUSAND rounds? [Eek2]
I was more concerned that someone just lost $1000+ worth of ammo and a garage.

Thanks for posting that video.
At 18:16 it sounds like popcorn. So sad watching/hearing 400k+ rounds of perfectly good ammo burning!
It's amazing that they control each of the fires with water in less than 10 seconds.

The is a difference between deflagration (what guns do) and detonation. Gunpowder Deflagrates.
Deflagration is basically a fast burn of combustible material. A black powder pipe-bomb deflagrates.
Detonation is a supersonic shock via chemical reaction. C4 explodes via shock caused by a detonator.

Thank you for the technical definition. I had forgotten the word "deflagration".
But back to the news story: I'm just concerned that the guy only had 3k rounds in his house... Maybe he only had 1 gun? I would say 3k is a minimum for each gun! [Muaha]

That is a lot of round for per gun! I like to keep things simple and have multiple guns share the same caliber.

Seeings how the MSM calls this " the ammo cache in the house ", wonder what they would call the quantity of ammo one of us would have ? An ammo bunker perhaps ?

A felony if they had their way.

Let us in Aurora hope that "Rap Sheet" Rhonda doesn't try sticking her nose into ammo quantities for private individuals.
People are still going off the deep end on the 9news comment section of their report.

Sad, I have that much in one of my range ammo bags...

Better hope it doesn't catch fire! That much ammunition in hi-cap magazine clips could create a blast the size of Nagasaki!!!

Getting kind of close. Black Powder in a sufficient pressure vessel certainly causes a detonation. Detonation is not only due to chemical means. Remember, just because it is on Wikipedia does not make it right. Detonations and deflagrations are characterized by the speed of the burn vs. the expansion rate of the products. While there are generalized speeds we use, supersonic (which is the speed of sound in air) has no bearing on the classification. Due to densities, about 3100 fps is typically seen as the common threshold for a detonation. Some reactions go from one to the other as well, so it is not universal.

I was not using Wikipedia.
This is the definition of detonation that was taught to me:
A detonation is classed as an explosion. It is a chemical reaction that propagates with such rapidity that the rate of advance of the reaction zone into the unreacted material exceeds the velocity of sound in the unreacted material.
And from what I understand the deflagration/detonation threshold is 1000m/s (3200 fps) not 3100 fps but that is just semantics.
