My contract with Home Depot is up, so i'm applying to other places for work. Last night I applied to JAX, and today I decided to check their gun friendiness after that change in policy.
Well the clerk called Pmag-assault clips, and said "we don't sell machine guns" refering to AR-15.... at this point I just turned away and left.
Now, I will seriouly consider not working there if they accept my job application......

UrbanWolf, I don't like the twits at JAX but work is work. If they offer you a job, I won't attack you for working somewhere to feed your family.

Maybe you can change things there from the inside.

I care about customers and trust them, working for a company that does no don't sit right with me.

+1 And a clerk? If someone high in management said something like that it might make a difference. Honestly, I don't know what's up with JAX. Sounds like they made some decisions after the new laws here? [Dunno]

What they did is like saying, "Ya'll maybe future mass killers, we gonna stop doing business with ya'll".

I could try my best to make those who buy from me happy, but I think they had 3 change in management by now, the store's getting shittier everytime, first no gun trade, now no "killa guns".

I still enjoy talking to the guys at knife desk tho.

Back in January, they decided to change store policy, because killer guns don't fit their motto of "Life is Good". Look through their facebook status, you may still find that message.

Change them from within. Educate the employees.

As I walked away, I said "By the way, they are called Magazines."

Good to know. Get the job, support yourself and the fam and keep looking for a new job. In the mean time, do what others have said and (try to) educate from within.

Haha, I don't have family to feed yet, I'm like one of the youngest member here. I just need to worry about myself for now.

Hear the message. To quote Gus Fring: A man's duty is to provide.

Move on... I am done trying to be patient or 'educational.' I find that hanging out/working with/for folks that are fundamentally equal to you is much more peaceful.

Every time they say something stupid, just remind yourself you're using their twit money to buy ammo. ;-)

A job is a job -- I'd be unemployed and broke if I let the fact some people annoy me affect my choice of job.

Slowly things are changing where I work. One at a time, slowly, people are asking more and more to be educated about firearms, wanting to try them out, hit the range. It cannot happen immediately.

And as for working at JAX, take the job if offered, we all work or have worked somewhere that has questionable policies, employees and ethics. Some you can work with, some you cannot. This one clerk does not sound like a "Cannot work there" type of thing.

The head of JAX decided to stop selling "paramilitary weapons" (yes, he called them paramilitary) after newtown. He has repeated the phrase on the radio in interviews. Very obvious where they stand. With that at the head you arent going to change anything from below.

So do they still sell mil surplus? :)

Really? I remember when Jax was a warehouse with industrial shelving everywhere and it specialized in selling military surplus...

Ya, there's been a shift or two in the store's philosophy. I don't mind their change in what they carry, but they have forgotten what put them in business and fed their kids.

It's a FoCo thing. I graduated FT. C High in 87 and lived there for years, still have family there. It's the only way I know.

You're a college kid in a college town, you can get a job anywhere.. Why the F would you want to work at JAX? Get a job at the Rio and you will have a steady line of cocktail servers to take care of every weekend.

Because maybe outdoor gear is the OP's thing? You are going to run into liberals and anti's anywhere you work.

I won't shop at Jax again, ever. After the owner, Jim Quinlan, decided to declare war on all things black rifle after Newtown, I went into my local store in Lafayette and told the employees there I wouldn't be coming back because of their new policies. I realize they won't change, but hopefully they will feel the loss of business. I spent over $2K there in 2012 alone.

I like the stores and the inventory, but the message is more important to me.
