I'm Sick Of Everyone On The Internet Tracking Everything I Do.
...So I downloaded this free Chrome extension:
https://www.abine.com/dntdetail.php
And then when I came back to my ar-15.co tab, it showed that google analytics was tracking me.
Not any more:

As another example, this is when I went to Imgur:

Ironically, I went to my Gmail and wasn't being tracked by anyone. Of course Google can see everything there, but at least nobody else was tracking me.
For Clarification:
This isn't about tinfoil and paranoia. This is about my privacy being invaded without my knowledge or consent. In the age when "the land of the free" spies on its own people almost as much as it spies on our allies (France, England, Australia et.al., aren't happy about that btw), It might be wise to take some steps to protect your privacy. If there is a product or method you use to prevent internet tracking, phone tracking, or other unwarranted "spying", please post it here for the greater good of our community!

Ghostery is what I use. Works well with firefox.+1 for Ghostery
Also use Adblock Plus & Adblock Plus Element Hider for Firefox.
You can alway use a full blow proxy configuration like HMA (Hide My Ass)
Is there a similar application for IE?

Don't forget the electrical tape over your webcam.
Don't forget the electrical tape over your webcam.
Did that about 10 minutes after getting my recent laptop from work. Wish there was something that was as effective and reversible for the microphone.
As for OP & tracking. Assume every company you interact with is selling everything they possibly can get hold of. It is a losing battle but I have not given up yet.
I installed this on the 7th and it says it has block 7318 attempts so far. Also another great extension is Adblock plus, i do not get popups or even commercials on youtube any more.

I use Privoxy. It is more designed to stop commercials and advertisements than "don't track me" I suppose, but I love not seeing 95% of ads! Granted, on occasion I do have to disable it (like some TV stations hard-code their videos to require the prelim ad in order to see stuff), but the vast majority of the time I surf ad-free.
I've been using Ad Block Plus for a few years and really like it. It doesn't cover Flash imbedded ads though.
FF used to have an Add-On that let you select a proxy IP. Phzilla?
How well do these free proxy services work (Hide My Ass, Page Wash, etc) for not being tracked?

I gave up on tracking you. It was putting me to sleep. [ROFL2]
Just kidding. Much of what is being done is a part of the world we now live in. It is a lot of work keeping off of everyone's radar, all of the time.

Is there a similar application for IE?Its a little different, MS calls it "Tracking Protection" and the outcome is similar.
I've been using Ad Block Plus for a few years and really like it. It doesn't cover Flash imbedded ads though.Try NoScript!
It will block any and all webpage scripting, Flash included. It does cripple some webpage functionality, so you may want to "whitelist" certain page that you use often.

Thanks HB for the tips! Downloaded and installed on my work laptop, will do the same as soon as I fix my other laptop.
Ironically enough, after I installed it and refreshed the page, it showed ar-15.co was tracking me, then Chrome crashed [LOL]

The only concern I have is how do you know they are not tracking/coilecting info on you. What better way for Big Brother to track you than by setting up a search engine and saying it's safe to surf "anonymously".

I downloaded this myself yesterday after reading this post. Love it. It's amazing going to a site and seeing 15 things trying to track you. The only one I don't have a problem with is Google Analytics. If I was running a website, a few statistics about how many people are on at what time and what they're looking at for my own personal use, so I know what to update/upgrade is fine by me. But having Doubleclick and all those other companies tracking you for ads and god knows what else blocked is nice to know.

Use open source software. Lots of software has a "backdoor" for the government to watch you through, but if it's open source, users and developers would notice a "backdoor" immediately. Bonus: most open source software is free or very cheap.

thank you honeybadger and jerrymrc - i'm trying both of those out.
Yep. I'm tracking you all. Mwuuu-HAHAHAHA.
Only thing we have here is Google Analytics, to tell us what sections are popular, how many new visitors vs returning visitors, how many pages on average a visitor sees, etc. Its all generalized, and counted in totals.
So I get things like: On average, people visit 11.74 pages per visit. We have had 1,300,000 visitors since December. Our total visitors per week has dropped 20%+ since the trading post is not what it used to be, etc, etc.

Run a UTM in between your modem and router. Then update the host file so that any of those sites go to /dev/null or 127.0.0.1. No more problems when you add that in conjunction with ghostery and add block. Your not gonna get all of em, but you'll get rid of quite a few.
For ads, this is what I use...untangle
So what happens in your browser is that it will get a referring url, say for example ads.doubleclick.com, but in your utm or your router ads.doubleclick.com points to 127.0.0.1. So it will hit that ip instead of the real one. However, it's localhost, and the server doesn't exist and the ad goes into the bit bucket...done deal. If you really want to test out your network security and crap like that, hit the porn websites. No better way to test then by hitting them. I got lil ones, and that's the first test I did. Now I gotta figure out how to block off of key words that have any questionable content on youtube...like donkey weiner holder.

Thanks for all the good info guys. One thing that pisses me off more than anything is congress mandating GPS trackers in phones. I thought it was a bad idea at the time and it turned into a monster.
Also don't forget photos taken with your phone are GPS tracked. http://kyeos.wordpress.com/2013/05/10/warning-if-you-take-photos-with-your-cell-phone/

Even without GPS your location can be determined. Any cellphone is constantly sending data packets to a tower, just triangulate the signal for something within 100yards. GPS provides a more fine location down to 5 yards.
Not just tracking but the whole lawful cellphone interception is scary. That and the fact that hackers can do the same thing with a radio under $200
