Has anyone made any so far? Show your pics!

First burn test tonight.

Have to devise a cooktop yet, and a wider base on the four legs.

Not a stove, but I have been toying around with building a smoker. Mostly for something to do with my mig welder. My main problem is all the pipe I find to use is pretty heavy and I want to be able to move the darn thing.

I did build a small BBQ pit out of a propane tank once to mount on the fender of a trailer. It turned out pretty good. No pictures though.

I think the thickness of the metal of a propane tank makes the perfect grill. Have to fill it up a couple times with water before you take the grinder to it though. :-D

I made a ammo can stove for my son. I followed some of the principles from here (http://www.autonopedia.org.uk/appropriate_technology/Woodburners/Wood_Stoves_Part2.html#c14)

I put in a baffle inside to make the smoke burn and also make the top surface hot to cook on. It was fun to build and got me back into welding a little. We have since painted it with black stove paint and made a wood handle for the door.

Hell yeah it is! What kind/size of ammo can?

I've wanted a double-barrel stove for years, but don't have a place for one at the moment. I worked in a small machine shop that had one, and it really put out the heat (when the cheap bastard would actually buy some wood). But that shop was just a tin covered pole barn so it didn't do much good. In a decently insulated shop, it would run you outta there.

I finally picked up a 55 gallon drum to make a stove. Who knows when I'll get around to it. I can't weld, so probably never.

It is a 50cal one. I am going to make another one from a 40MM can next. He wants to get a teepee tent so he can winter camp with his stove in it. We bought some more stove pipe and it now has a four foot stack on it.

Bring it up here, Mig and plasma cutter available. There's no time like today to start learning.

I like that ammo can stove, too bad I have no tools to make one and I haven't welded anything since auto body shop in high school.

Great thread. It gets me excited to try a stove. Anyone seen a design for an oven?

Home made stove fabrication at my place. You guys pick up the tab for welding / plasma, grinding, consumables and we're gtg.

Have built a couple over the years. Homemade shop stoves seem to work better than factory built/bought.

Built one of them with dad when I was in high school. We used a 100 gallon tank from an old air compressor. Thing was a monster, at full burn you could barely get close enough to throw more wood in it.

I started a thread about this, in this section, a few years ago that included a link to an online book all about making homemade stoves. Very detailed info in that book. I'd find it again, but am on my phone.

Don't suppose you have a parts list of how you made the 50 cal one? Mostly wondering what you used for legs.

I have seen angle steel with holes drilled in it, folds up nice up under the stove. on some YouTube video once.

Kinda like the stuff that makes up these shelves you get at home depot or whatever,

The legs are 1/4" NPT galvanized pipe. I welded a coupler to the bottom of the stove so the pipe (legs) can be removed. I have not been able to find the floor flanges to make it more stable. The stove is pretty stable right now.

I got the idea from the stove page I referenced earlier.

Here is a picture of a stove I want to make next. I will make it out of a 40mm ammo can. I am going to make a run down to the Springs to pick up some.

Here is another pic I drew inspiration from for my current one.

Ok, yeah.. cool thread alright. Jim, I'd be interested in learning anything about welding. Shall I pick up some pizza on the way over? When's good for you?

EDIT: That drawing you based the ammo can stove off of is in chapter 14 of this book.

I found this project last week. It uses a steel kitchen canister from Wally world ($18 for a set of 4) as the body. Looks to be nice and light for winter backpacking.

I missed this thread the first time around.

Nice stoves. [Awesom]

I like the ammo can idea but aren't the walls a little thin?

I'd like to someday make a giant version of the Emberlit, something I didn't have to look for pencil-sized twigs to run it on.

Check out this stove. From the video, it appears to be a difficulty level 1 when it comes to assembly and operation.
