So this isn't the first time in my travels that I have seen a car like this. It has cameras on the trunk and on the roof. As I passed I looked down into the car and seen him on a lap top. What is this and what's he doing?

Ive seen cars setup like that driving through RTD Park and Rides. You have to pay to park in them after 24 hours.

Talked to an arapahoe deputy the other day at the shop and soon you'll see these on LE vehicles, pretty sure it's the same thing

ALPR (Automatic License Plate Reader)

A few of our patrol cars have them. I have noticed a few agencies around the state jumping on board with them too.

Works for major repo company.

The licence plate scanner looks for delinquent vehicles and when one pops it tells the driver to go back to double check. If it pops again it then automatically calls the closes repo company to pick up the vehicle

I wonder if a City/County will soon issue a "hunting" license for these like that town did for drones. [ROFL1]

Beat me to it. It's a DRONE, shoot it!

I'd say photo radar but they use flash.

Denver also uses these cars/vans in private parking lots downtown. There must be some kickback or something to the private lot?

Totally okay with a private repo company doing this. Great idea for them to use.

I was about to say, isn't the local Google street view car a Prius?
The real question is, was he on the laptop while driving? If so, I don't car who he works for, CSP should nab him for driving while distracted. If it saves just one child... [Coffee]

I think that car is patrolling for people driving on restricted/suspended/revoked licenses.

Google is synonomous with the NSA.

Here's another recent story of LE using these.

Never mind - Appears to be the same AP story as posted earlier.

Is there any technology that prevents a good photo of your plates? Covers, etc.? Beside the obvious duct tape of course. :)

42-3-202. Number plates to be attached

(1) (a) Number plates assigned to a self-propelled vehicle other than a motorcycle or street rod vehicle shall be attached thereto, one in the front and the other in the rear. The number plate assigned to a motorcycle, street rod vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, other vehicle drawn by a motor vehicle, or special mobile machinery shall be attached to the rear thereof. Number plates shall be so displayed during the current registration year, except as otherwise provided in this article.

(b) A person shall not operate a motor vehicle with an affixed device or a substance that causes all or a portion of a license plate to be unreadable by a system used to automatically identify a motor vehicle. Such a device includes, without limitation, a cover that distorts angular visibility; alters the color of the plate; or is smoked, tinted, scratched, or dirty so as to impair the legibility of the license plate.

(3) (a) A person who violates any provision of this section commits a class B traffic infraction.

I'm just glad NOBODY is taking those high powered blue lasers and burning out the police automatic license plate readers, because that would probably be illegal and HARD TO DETECT! It would be much easier to enforce the law if all citizens wore GPS tracking collars...hell why not add a little piece of C4 explosive, that way if the administration deems you a threat to nationalistic security they can just blow your freedom loving head off...
