Someone at my work mentioned going to a lot of auctions and flipping his buys for good money. He brought up the subject of firearms, bragging about his profits. I asked, what are you doing since July 1st? He said, "Nothing's changed. I asked my neighbor who's an Arapahoe Sheriff and he said what I'm doing is legal. I advertise them on craigslist and usually triple what I pay." I asked what FFL he uses and he said he doesn't need to because he's not a dealer. Then he mentioned something about having the buyer fill out a form that he sends to the state. I was confused at this point and wasn't sure what the heck he was talking about, but I was trying to warn him that it's not unheard of for undercover cops, newspeople, and others who want him to get into trouble might lure him into selling them a gun without a background check. He was pretty steadfast that what he was doing was legal.

CN: Guy at work is still flipping guns without an FFL after July 1.

I advertise them on craigslist ...

That's when I suspect he may be BSing.

Although I've seen plenty of guns being sold on Armslist lately complete with >15rd mags, so I imagine there are a lot of buyers and sellers out there that are ignorant of (or don't care about) the new law.

I wonder how often that really happens ... I do seem to remember some newspeople buying guns off Armslist to illustrate how easy it was (before the law) but I don't know about police stings. Such things are possible, but I just haven't heard of them happening locally (only Bloomie's goons buying from NYC).

He was already illegal. Case law will quickly prove that regularly engaging in the purchase and reselling for profit of firearms requires the person to be a licensed FFL.

As mentioned earlier, the guy was most likely BS'ing in the first place. Craigslist pulls firearms ads pretty quickly and for him to state that is where he advertised guns, shows he's lying.

However, it would not surprise me if some Arapahoe Sheriff's Deputy told him wrong info. Not one bit. But given that the rest of his little gems were BS, I'd not credit that either.

He said the whole "Of course you're not supposed to list them on craigslist but I put them up as hunting equipment, paintball guns, stuff like that". I've bought guns advertised on craigslist in the past, it's not that hard.

In other news, burglary is occurring, people are cheating on their taxes, and the government continues to lie to us.

Firearms are probably only a percentage of what he sells, so it's not like he's doing it every day.

If I had to bet- I'd say he's not buying them legally if they're that cheap.

You can find guns in storage units all the time.

You might pay $500-$1,000 for the whole unit and find a $1,000+ gun and all the other stuff in the unit.

Geee, with over 20 years of experience buying many many storage units, I must have missed those.
Hmmmm, all the time huh?

Real storage auctions are not what they appear to be on tv. They only show the good lockers on television, not the hundreds of crappy ones they buy in the meantime. Even on tv it is rare.
