In ten years never had to, always carry a couple disposable masks on me just in case. Came close one time, extended seizure past 5 minutes called 911 and then the person stopped breathing about ready to start CPR when EMTs showed up and took over before we even started.

Only when I worked in the hospital many, many years ago... First aid? Yep. But no CPR outside of the 'hospital years'.

More than once yeah. In the elderly, if you are doing it right, you will more than likely break ribs, which is a little freaky the first time. Never done mouth to mask, I have always been able to use a bag valve mask (BVM). If you provide respirations a too hard and too fast you push air into the belly, which will lead to vomiting. This is not only disgusting but can lead to further airway problems if not taken care of.

There are two songs to keep in your mind to keep you compression rate up - Staying Alive and Another Bites The Dust, make sure you hum the right one while doing CPR in front of family members. [Coffee]

Just remember CPR is only a technique that works well with Advanced Life Support, Defibrillation, and Medication. Most people do not survive with CPR alone. It can work though and that is the important thing, there was a case in Minnesota where people did CPR for like an hour or some crazy shit before the ambulance and helicopter arrived and ALS was started, the guy survived.

I do it on a fairly regular basis. If you haven't taken it for a while, it has changed quite a bit. Be ready for a lot of compressions with very little breathing.

Nope, I'd be damn picky on who I do it too as well.

4 or 5 times. Never successfully. It can get pretty disgusting, too.

Never had to, besides CPR can give you cooties.

Twice mouth to mouth when I was a lifeguard in my teens. BVM several times when I was doing the EMT thing.

Whole new way to do it these days- just pounding on that sternum and no respirations
^^^^^ this
I wish they would get a standard sop..... But I do like this new method of chest compression only.

Been trained for 30 years and thank God I have never had to use it.

One of three survived. Didn't get a thank you from the guy or his family for it, but the PD recognized it.

I get refresher training annually. No way do I feel qualified to actually administer it.

BVM several times when I was doing the EMT thing.

x2, but never as part of CPR. Just as respiratory support on an ACLS call.
Never full blown CPR.

Hate that ACLS class: every 2 years and everything new/different. Gets more difficult as you age. Damn.

It has been > 10 years, but I loved it out of pharmacy school in residency. Playing with all the toys they'd never, ever let you use was awesome.
Went to more codes than I could recall - but all I ever did, obviously, was medications.

I don't even have a basic non-provider CPR card anymore....

I was an LEO for 27+ years. I've done CPR more times then I care to remember. Everyone from infants to people in their 80s. CPR is good but the AED saves way more lives.

Yep. I was just updating software on a bunch of LP500's today. Another thing. If you have an AED at work check the dates on the pads. All will tell you that the battery needs replaced but I changed out 3 sets of pads today that expired in 2006.

dried up pads will do you no good.

Many, many times. Outside of work (and thus universal precautions) I have and will never use my mouth though, Hands only!

Many more times than I wish I had. I would be happy to never see another dead person in my life but in my line of work it's not likely.
