View Full Version : Man Cave additions...
So, I found what I am going to call, my next "Man Cave" addition. At the house we just leased in Perryton, there is a three car garage that has been fully finished, and remodeled to be an extra space for, whatever... The lady is leaving me her "tournament" pool table (she used to be in "leagues") as the center piece of my part of the garage (the two car side). I was thinking about this, what do you guys have as your "Man Cave" items? Oh, and the picture:

I'm also planning on making my own sidewinder missile out of aluminum and PVC to put on the wall with the center part of the fuselage being a fluorescent light. I've seen the plans to make them, and if I can use the lathe at my new job, this will be cake with aluminum...

Sounds great but where is Perryton???
7 miles south of the panhandle border in Texas.
Where did you get that? I'd like one!

Look for the movie prop rubber firearms reproductions of military and old west firearms to hang on the walls.

Some time ago, I heard there was a good gun shop at either Borger or Pampa. At least you can buy all the high cap magazines you want over there (so far).

I am still, till the end of the month.

That's the real deal. It is just the tube, no rocket inside. It is not reloadable, so, if you find a used tube, it is perfectly legal to buy it without any tax stamps or anything.

I can still buy anything I want there!!!

I've got three that I race on this track but a half dozen more of other types. The lap record is 8.8 seconds I believe (I've usually had a few beers too many to remember the lap record). The start/finish line bridge has an IR timing system connected to the computer so it tracks the cars as they roll through (assuming they've connected their transponders).

I need more details on the track. What is the material? I want to make a rally track in my basement once we move in.

The material is carpet - 100% olefin style/color Viking - Stingray, got it from Home Depot. It's the shortest pile I could find and grips really well (not nearly as expensive as the stuff they use at "real" carpet tracks). Other Man Cavers (Mile High Man Cave Racing) have tried painting concrete floors and it's just too slick. The green and white stuff is closed cell foam I got from another Man Caver who manages a foam company.
We've run our Tamiya DF-03Ra and Traxxas rally cars on it and they do pretty well. Though the overpass is a little low for anything like a Blitz or Slash, I could have made it work if I had raised it. I just didn't envision running SC trucks on it, it was built for Tamiya M03s, HPI Cup Racers and the like.
ETA: I believe I'm hosting a race on August 10th and you're welcome to come down and check it out.

My mancave is my back yard. Rc racetrack. Complete with lighting for night shenanigans.

That is a super cool track! I would love to check it out sometime, however I got rid of all my 1/18 and 1/16 stuff. All I have now are 1/10 and 1/8 SC trucks

Snowman - I don't think that's a problem. I'm sure we can find something for you to run if you want to show up (I tend to spend more time running the races than racing so my car usually sits idle all night). I'll PM you with some details so I don't continue to eat up space in this thread.

I am thinking of running 1/24th Losi brushless rally cars. I want to have a variety of surfaces for the track, carpet, foam, concrete, etc. I might go with the Losi track as a starting point.

That'll be awesome for a rally track. I like your thinking.

Oh that's sweet, what are you guys racing on it?
My man cave is packed with probably 50 or more RC's, not counting the 12X30 storage unit I have full of RC Stuff.

I'm jealous! Must be one heck of a collection.
We race mostly 1/10 scale (TT01s, Tamiya M-chassis, HPI Cup Racer, DF03s) and some of the guys run 1/18 scale buggers if they bring them. A lot of the guys now have vintage Tamiya stuff (Grasshoppers, etc) so if they get tires for them, we'll run them too. Basically we'll run anything that fits and has good tires (nothing that'll shred the carpet). I only live a few miles away from you (136th and Holly) and I'm sure Goodall and Todd would love having you show up for a man cave race (airsoft rifle is optional).
Those racks are both really cool. I raced RC cars a long time ago and should get back into it. It was a blast.
I just saw a jet engine on ebay... apparently it works.

Hmm I might have to check that out next time you have a race. I have a sweet little tamiya front wheel drive Mini Cooper that'd probably go good on there. Haven't seen Todd and Jeff for a while.

Did you get your bid in?
How big a vent will it need?
Got room for fuel tanks?
Can't wait to see pics of it installed.

A jet engine would be really cool.
You can make your own turbine engine from a turbo. Junkers off larger Diesel engines work best.

I like your "man cave". You have a mill and a lathe and a TiG welder and all kinds of cool stuff. And a cool old car to tinker with if you had more time.

My man cave has barely enough room to walk in. BUT i'm hoping to add one of these, sometime soon. The one i'm in talks for is a basket cas,e but still a cool unit to add to the rest of the crap in the yard.

Hadn't thought of scale size when Spyder posted it. Figured Lear jet sized, something fun but not too space consuming. Bolted to the floor with 8' louvered wall panel that starts to open when you hit the ignitor.:thumbup::D
Gonna need a bigger track for the Mini Cooper mounted model.
I got plenty of space for anybody wanting to test RC mounted jet engines. Or jet engine mounted RC's
