Processing time is also improving. Went through the drill in El Paso country on 18 Jun and card arrived on 10 Aug.

This is the motivation I keep hearing from a lot of my friends and even my step father, but not with respect to the gun, but the permit specifically. Many of them are just hobbyist shooters and hunters with little to no intention of carrying concealed, but they just want permits just in case they felt the need to carry it sometimes. They think it's something they'd have and not need, than not have and want when needed... It's fine by me. Eventually they'll mean the same thing you did... better to have the gun and not need it... et al.
