Hmmm, might be time to learn on the job, there is nothing mysterious about a water heater, if it were my house i would take care of it myself

Very easy to do as long as you get a replacement that is similar in size.

I'm handicapable and in town if I can help let me know. You buy stuff I help you install. I work full time as a subcontractor to plumbers and pipe fitters, though I am not a plumber. I may even be able to help you get a deal on the hot water heater if required.
Damn this touchscreen.

Might as well do it yourself. Mine went out like a year ago and due to the fact that my back was in a very bad way I had HD do it. The guy that came was clueless. Could not sweat a joint to save his ass. Then he put sealant on the compression fittings for the gas. [Bang]
Since he was from the Ukraine and since I have seen how the old school Europeans do some things I finally asked if he was going to use some horse hair on it. [LOL]

Unlike other places, a permit is required from the Regional Building Department along with an inspection; as a Homeowner you can pull the permit yourself. They say it's all about safety, but to me it's just about the $$$ .

You need to call for an inspection to finalize the Permit.

I paid $800 to have a water heater installed. In all the "fees" they tacked on was $80 for the permit. They also tacked on $125 to bring it up to the latest code and they did not. I ain't doing shit.[Flower]

Til your house burns down caused by improper water heater install and the insurance company sees the permit was pulled but not inspected. Then they give you the big [fyou].
op: if you go the store brand route only go with GE from Home Depot. The kenmore, sears, state, whirlpool is the biggest pile of shit water heater there is. 70% of the water heater trouble calls are to clean the screen and or replace the pilot assembly on those.
plumbers grade: Rheem/ruud or Bradford white.
Best of luck.
Watch out for the Rheem that are dark grey, they're iffy. We've had to warantee about %25 of them.
AO smith or bradford then ge like whit trash said.
Hodges Plumbing put a water heater in for me about a year ago. Father/son outfit. Good people. 719-201-0341.

I think what he is saying is he hired someone to replace the water heater and they should have called for the inspection.

No permit for the water heater or the new roof. Now that said I have two addresses but nothing comes up for both.
All, many thanks for the input. Agreed on the permit....city just wants a piece of the action, but its cheap insurance is if something goes kaboom. This exactly I thought it would be a good idea to have an experts input on the matter.

Thats strange what went wrong with them? We've installed 100+ of the dark grey Ruud tanks with no issues. The 6 years I've been doing this we've had to replace maybe 12 for leaking within the firs 6 years.
Started leaking from the welds. Our distributor stopped carrying then they had so many bad ones

Great site, thanks. Shows that my two roofers never pulled the permit they charged me for. As well as the window installer...

Forgot to mention. Some jurisdictions(arapahoe, Broomfield counties and commerce city) require a master plumber license to pull a permit. Unless you're a homeowner. Dumbest rule ever. I can install a whole not water heat system(boiler) and pull a permit no problem, but oh no not the water heater.

No
So rheem or bradford white then? The BW I'm replacing is nine years old. Probably would still be ok, but the guys that inst alled my AC didn't tighten a tap line and water leaked into the casing. Now the thing just keeps kicking off randomly and makes crackling noises.
