So I'm watching the unveiling of the 12th Doctor (going to be Peter Capaldi)

And all of the sudden I have this odd thought ... what if the ancient Sunni Muslim prophets that foretold of the coming of The Madhi ... the 12th Imam ... were actually seeing this unveiling of the 12th Doctor.

Anyway, I'm feeling good about this one as I've not really been all that fond of Matt Smith.

It is kinda funny that one of Capaldi's recent roles was as a "W.H.O. Doctor" in World War Z :p

Where were you watching this, BBC America? We liked Smith. His interaction with Pond, Amy Pond, Gladiator Rory AND River Soon was well done. It was equal to the Christopher Eccleston Billie Piper then David Tennant interaction.

Where were you watching this, BBC America? We liked Smith. His interaction with Pond, Amy Pond, Gladiator Rory AND River Soon was well done. It was equal to the Christopher Eccleston Billie Piper then David Tennant interaction.

We've been watching it on Netflix. I like all the side characters in the Smith episodes a lot ... I just don't like Smith himself (especially since we both really liked David Tennant in the role ... and I even preferred Eccleston). Matt Smith isn't bad in the role, but we just haven't warmed up to him yet.

We'll probably finish up what's on Netflix (only has up through Season 6) before Season 7 and certainly before 8 is posted there so I'll probably hunt them down off the net to watch them as I'm not that patient.

Never been able to get into Doctor Who. A lot of people got hung up on the (even cheesier) SFX but the stories were what bugged me. None of the Who episodes had the depth of A City on the Edge of Forever or Where No Man Has Gone Before or even Mudd's Women. UFO and Space: 1999 were among the few Brit SF shows I could get into.

I can't say I'm too terribly excited by this, I was starting to get into Matt Smith's performance although this last season was absolutely Horribly written.

David Tennant still stands as my favorite.

I'm disappointed in the choice of Peter Capaldi, but have to wait and see.

Never been able to get into Doctor Who. A lot of people got hung up on the (even cheesier) SFX but the stories were what bugged me. None of the Who episodes had the depth of A City on the Edge of Forever or Where No Man Has Gone Before or even Mudd's Women. UFO and Space: 1999 were among the few Brit SF shows I could get into.

I would contend that some of the David Tennant episodes are among the best written Sci-Fi to ever make it on TV anywhere (an awesome example is the episode titled "Blink" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blink_%28Doctor_Who%29) which is brilliant and can be enjoyed without ever watching another episode or being a Dr Who fan ... can be found here (http://www.doctorwhoseason.com/doctor-who-season-3/doctor-who-season-3-episode-10-blink/)as an AVI if you don't have Netflix).

I wouldn't judge the new (since its relaunch in 2005) Dr Who series based on the original series which I really only like for nostalgic reasons ... if I were to watch the old series now for the first time I probably wouldn't like it either.

Eccelston has been my favorite in the role and Tennant was more interesting to watch. Smith is a bit tiresome and I was afraid they might not ever replace him (aka Tom Baker).

Like all good entertainment, IMO it is about the writing. Moffat has written some wonderful stuff, but I believe Russell Davies is by far the best writer the show has ever had. That takes a lot for me to admit because I really enjoy Neil Gaiman.

Having watched the show 30 years ago, there is little comparison to the newer series (9th to present). I have showed some of the older stuff to my kids (who are also Whovians) and they could barely sit through some of the old stuff.

Like all good entertainment, IMO it is about the writing. Moffat has written some wonderful stuff, but I believe Russell Davies is by far the best writer the show has ever had.

Agreed ... not only that, I think Moffat did his best writing when he had to work under Davies and now that he's replaced him as executive producer I think he's suffered from The Peter Principle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Principle) and as such the episodes I've seen with Smith hasn't been as good (maybe he gets better).

The way the first of many interactions with the Weeping angels was a memorable show. Every once and awhile the spouse and i will say . Don't Blink. especially when one of the pups is staring at us hoping to go to the park or lake.
The Library is another well written one.

IMHO what we have seen since Eccelston is an evolution from just a doctor to one who started to be "more human" There was one with Tennant on some cloud ship? where the antagonist said (loosely quoted) BUT your the Doctor you can't do that. At which point he replied I'm a different kind of doctor. Then proceeded to throw one of them off the edge.

Not to mention We really like John Hurt and his involvement, however brief should be interesting

[hahhah-no] never too late to start. The interaction when Captain jack Harkness is on has it's moments. If you pay attention to the smallest items, it makes sense later in the series. The Face Of BO.
By doing that you may or may not get in to TORCHWOOD.

While Rose gets better as the seasons pass, you'll forget all about her (or the Silence for that matter) when Clara, or Amy comes along. Good god I need to go to Scotland.
