Nidal Hassan trial

The "workplace violence" trial started today. I take it Hassan is representing himself. He apologized, not for killing 14 people (charged with 13, but one woman was pregnant), but essentially for mistakes in waging Jihad. He's admitted to the shooting.

So, my question is, why isn't this trial over and him before a firing squad already?

Gotta give him his chance at a trial- even though the outcome is going to be fairly obvious. The only thing that infuriates me more than Maj Hassan's acts, is the fact that this administration is flat out refusing to call it an act of terror, when it clearly is. Everyone injured that day should receive full merits for being engaged in combat with an enemy combatant, and the victims should be treated as such as well. I only wish I could be among those who get to execute sentence upon this Jihadi dirt bag mother f**ker.

I'll gladly pay for my trip down to Killeen/Ft. Hood and all associated expenses if I am allowed to pull the trigger on one of the firearms used in the firing squad that can give him his reward of those 21 virgins. Well first- we needed this trial YEARS ago... why did it take so long to try him? But that aside, all we need is the officer presiding over his trial by Court Martial to find him guilty, sentence him to death, and have the sentence carried out post-haste.

IIRC the trial was delayed for a long time over his refusal to shave his beard as required by the military but forbidden under Islam. No judge would force him to shave because god forbid we do or say anything against a Muslim.

Yep... UCMJ still has to respect the right to due process... innocent until proven guilty. Not right, but it's the way it is. This guy should have been hanged a while ago.

The latest today is that his backup lawyers are trying to distance themselves from the case, arguing that he's colluding with the prosecution to get the death penalty. In a trial like this they have to do everything possible to allow him to prove his innocence - to the point that he was not even allowed to enter a plea, they pled 'Not Guilty' for him automatically. They want to push the death penalty here and they want an airtight case where there can be absolutley no question in case the nut job changes his mind and doesnt want to die afterall.

Call him a terrorist, he would avoid the death penalty; court martial him, we may be able to execute him. My guess, anyway.

The military has a pretty poor track record for executing inmates on death row. Last one was 1961. And, the CinC has to sign off on the execution. Good luck with that.

Starving to death is as bad as burn to death.

My personal thought is that this is a test. The world is watching how this all pans out... It shouldn't have ever reached this point, but the reason it has is part of the testing.
