Would anyone here happen to know of a reputable guide servive or outfitter that isn't crazy expensive or a shady operator for Texas pigs in the Amarillo area?
I am interested in going down there for a few days but I am not really sure what the best way to go would be. If anyone could school me on it I would appreciate it.
I was hoping someone would chime in on this... as i am interested a hog hunt as well. I am looking at texas- but also at any good, target rich environments that might be closer. I know i have a solid 5+ hour drive on my hands no matter what though...

There are a lot of hunting forums out there; members comment on the good and bad ones of hog hunting. Find a forum specific to the area you want to go to.

There are not many hogs near Amarillo. Further south towards Laredo and you will be falling over them. For north Texas I have hunted Vernon, Quanah and Childress area with mixed results
I'm actually headed to a friends private ranch in Wimberley TX in October. He raises cattle and the hogs are everywhere. Gonna be interesting shooting from the bed of a moving truck. Just Google hog hunting in Texas.

Damn, that sounds like a fun time! maybe a little dangerous, but as long as everyone is playing it safe- why not!

I'd rather be in a moving truck than facing a pissed off wild hog! We shall see. I hope I can find a processor nearby to Fed Ex the meat back home.

Why not go whole hog, so to speak, go down to Texas and do one of the helicopter hog hunts.
Now if I could only find one of the helicopter outfits that have an M60 on a side door mount..........
Get some..... Get some, Come on and some............

I don't understand this pig situation down here. Every farmer and rancher is complaining about the burgeoning population and the damage they do, but when you go ask to shoot some of them everybody has their hand out. I've been down here a year now and I'm getting a couple of places lined up that will let me come in without paying, but it hasn't been easy.
I lived in texas for a few years and my advice is to drive down and hunt public lands.
My step son used to shoot them at the end of our street in red river county. Pigs are not magical elusive creatures. If you want to hunt a ranch or use a guide at least find one who is reputable..
Pigs aren't lions tigers or bears you have nothing to fear but tall tales. They aren't aggressive and generally run like a mofo unless trapped with no way out.

I have the same thought. If there is such a major problem with them, why is every rancher and farmer wanting a buttload of cash in order to hunt on their land and eradicate the varmints.
Makes no sense at all!!!!
I can understand charging for lodging and food if you are providing it, as well as guide fees if there is one. But $500 per person for 2 day hunts and usually a minimum of 2 and sometimes 4 hunters is a bit much when they also expect you to tip the guide, the cook and the dog after the hunt. Most of them I have seen limit to 2 hogs and some even have trophy fees for hogs over a certain weight. For over 2500 in fees and tips for four people on a hog hunt I'll leave the family behind and get a guided elk or bison trip for myself and deal with getting yelled at when I get home.

Exactly. All the outfitters and guides services I have checked into are running about the same rates... We're talking about feral hogs here. I've decided that I am not going to waste my money on an outfitter for feral hogs in Texas.
Some of those outfitters are expensive. I see your guys point. I also see the ranchers. They know there's a demand for hog hunts. Why not decrease your problem while making some bucks? I'd charge too. Probably not as much as the going rate, but there is a demand. Capitalism.
I don't mind them getting money for the lodging and food since some of them do guided deer hunts and have nice facilities and guides that know the land. But 2 grand for four people who are clearing out a nuisance on your property that is costing you money in damaged land and livestock is a bit much. They used to have to pay animal control companies to come in and deal with them, now it's a money making scheme. But yeah, supply and demand I guess.

agreed. I would be happy to pay the ranchers a fair price for shooting hogs... but i think its crazy that some 'ranches' feed the wild hogs and dont contain them. they are basically just assisting the wild hog infestation, right? also- these ranches charge very high prices that usually only include one or two hogs. any more than that, and your paying big $$ or big trophy fees.
