Harry has been lonely since our other dog and our cat died earlier this summer. We've been thinking about getting him another 4-legged pal, and think we've found him a dog to adopt. But this morning, my wife gets home after her 24 hour shift, carrying a little, approx 6-7 week old kitten that had been dodging traffic on Hwy 85. Harry is smitten! The kitten has no fear of him, and they have already bonded. Who says Rotties are mean?

Rotties IMO are the most protective breed around. Don't matter what or who, whether you assign or they pick, don't get between them or threaten.

Kittie has a good life ahead.

I really like rots. You have to make them mean. They can get a bit overprotective if they are not around non family a bunch but that is not all bad. The onjes I have met that are not made mean are just huge teddy bears. It can be bad when a 100 plus pound dog wants to be a lap dog.

Cats must think they are the worlds ultimate badass. For a kitten to look at a dog that size and think to himself, "I could take him", is pretty amazing.

Rottys kick ass... I can't say I've ever met a mean Rott, ever. I've met my share of asshole poodles and ankle biters.

Fentonite- the Rott/kitten friendship is pretty neat! Makes me miss my cousin's Rott who loved cats as well.

There was a Rottweiler that lived near our last house that would occasionally get away from home and come visit. Her name was Gretchen. Scared the shit outta me the first time she stopped by. Wife and I were in the hot tub and it was pitch black. Heard a noise and a loud "sniff" right next to my ear. Turned and saw the silhouette of a huge head and gaping, panting mouth full of teeth. I thought it was a bear. She was a sweetie.

I firmly ascribe to it's not the breed, it's the owner and training.

Cute pup, mine would get along great with him I bet. (8 yr old boxer)

I know a rottie named Gretchen that has spent time in Greeley.

my only words as both a cat owner(3) and one dog owner was "That's just too freakin cool!"

Our addition that may stay. Was 11OZ when we plucked her from under the storage shed. So we weened her and now just waiting to see what kind of cat she grows up to be. Our youngest Dachshund has been playing mother and the other cat kinda of is like "Whatever".

Just posting because I looked and thought I have one like that. 3247132473

That's funny. We have a Rottie with a cat best friend who looks exactly like the grown up version of your kitten. It's great to see the cat nuzzle the dog with a request for petting, or to see them cuddles together on the bed.

Rottweilers can be very sweet dogs. They are one of the top breeds chosen as Therapy Dogs due to their temperament, intelligence, and expressiveness.

I've had four Rotties and just put one down for bone cancer last Tuesday. He was a big male and the sweetest dog ever. My cat and every other animal that was ever around him loved him and showed no fear whatsoever. I named him Augustus McCrae from Lonesome Dove cause all he seemed to want to do is lay around and have fun or have someone rub his belly. I also had a really sweet female I had to put down about three months ago for two blown acl's. Both were rescues so I'm judging their ages were around eight. They are by far my favorite breed by far but man, right now I don't know if I can do another one. Sorry, I don't mean to be a downer. I think I'll take a look at the Rottie Rescue site....

Sorry to hear about your loss. I had to put down my male a year and a half ago because of cancer. His name was Homer Simpson, because he was a lovable dufass. Nothing cures the heartache of losing one like new puppy love. My new boy has the same lovable personality, and would make the perfect therapy dog. He never can get enough attention. Just don't try to come in the house uninvited.

Damn. Losing two Rotties in three months is brutal. So sorry for your loss.

Thanks for the kind words. I scooped a puppy out of the middle of 17th Ave last November after about 6 cars ran over him without stopping. Makes me wonder sometimes.... The last car that ran over him did stop and she happened to be a Vet Tech at 29th St Animal Hospital. They patched him up and saved him, he needed a home so I kept him. (Speed) Bump is a full 9 1/2 pounds and it's just him and I now. Never thought of myself as a small dog guy but he's cool and we're tight. 3260932611

There's a not mean bone in this girls 100 lb body. She is however the most destructive dog I've owned and hope to never have a dog that gets as bored as easily as she does. Last summer she ate my 18'x52" above ground pool.
