CMMG's is a version of the Atchisson conversion - probably the most widely used .22 conversion for AR-15/M16 out there. They usually run great, but can sometimes be ammo sensitive or require some tuning. The Atchisson conversion is also the only one for which high capacity magazines are readily available (27rd plastic from black dog machine or 30rd metal from ceiner).
The Atchisson conversion was formerly made exclusively by Johnathan Arthur Ceiner down in Florida, but the patent ran out a few years ago, so Spikes, CMMG, and possibly some others get to make them now, as well.

Was it the one off of Potomac north of Alameda? Why did you hate that place? I have had problems with them making me buy their ammo for my guns, when I brought my own and not letting me shoot rifles but I never hated it.
The place does kinda suck...very high and mighty...I still go there for the indoor range (but I need a taclight when I go shooting there, lol!)
