I went last night, they had quite a bit of ammo, all extremely overpriced. They had a ton of pistols, a few ar's. I think the Ar's were POF but they were different colors than normal. I was not very pleased with everything else. It looks like they only carry Cabella's brand. It was fun though. Nice to see one in Colorado.

I ordered a set of rifle cases online and had them sent there for pick-up tomorrow. We'll see what else follows me home...

I hate to say it, because I love Cabela's, but that is pretty much how I imagined it would be. They know the demand is high right now and the hype about the grand-opening has swept the front range. I'm sure they'll sell most of their product at a somewhat inflated price.

I also overheard someone say that they have been "Prepping" for these 2 grand openings for over a year. They didnt want to open 2 stores with no ammo or firearms, so they started stocking up well before SHTF. All the AR's had 10 rounders in them. Also, all their gen4 glocks are listed as "M27, M26, M22..." why is that?

Maybe the "M" stands for "model" ie. Model 27, etc?
I'll be at work, might try this weekend.
i'll be there... look for a fat asian dude.
I'm probably going to roll by this weekend. Let it calm down a little. Skyridge has signs that say "no Cabela's parking"...going to be insane tomorrow.

Anyone know if they hav powder, primers and bullets?
I went yesterday (Thornton). They had some powders, a decent amount of primers, and bullet selection was good. They even had a bunch of reloading dies.

I'm thinking I might make a few trips to the other sporting goods places around town this weekend. Since everybody is going to be at Cabela's, I'd assume there might be some pretty good specials and promos running at places like Sportsman's, Gander Mtn, Bass Pro. I doubt they just want to roll over and take the hit this weekend.

Can't make it on opening day unfortunately, but thinking about a day next week just to go up and check it out. There's some non-firearm items I've been wanting to check out, and the guy running the fishing section is someone I know.

Was just down that way and there were signs for the Solheim Cup golf tournament that's going on in Parker for the cabela's exit--so there may be extra traffic at the interchange not even going to Cabela's.

Wife wants to go to Lonetree on Saturday to see Troy Landry. After putting $900 into fixing her van and paying the dentist's BMW payment this week, I doubt anything will follow us home. :(
I wish I was in town as I would be there in a heart beat. Thinking of hitting the Thornton store this Saturday and grab some reloading components if the price is right...
Does anyone know if you can ship reloading components to store and if so do they charge a hazmat fee?
Just got back from there. If they don't restock the shelves forget about primers and powders, they did have a bunch of ammo but it was going fast. I picked up a couple of things then saw the line to check out and set them down and walked out. They have a police command station there if that gives anyone an idea of what they are expecting. [panic]

If they don't totally screw up their opening w/ this friends/family bs.. and are fully stocked for tomorrow it'll be nice. If not I'll just keep ordering from places online and say fuck the big box stores.

Drove past the Thornton one about 45 minutes ago and the parking lot was PACKED. I wouldn't think they'll have anything of value left for the public opening.

I will be interested to see what they have for stock in a couple of weeks. They had more .223 ammo then I have ever seen in one place. I'm already looking for the stuff online that I set down and walked away from.
Hmm after the last few posts I think I'm out for tomorrow. I only need 9mm, I won't pay high prices, and I've got too much to get done tomorrow. This sounds like it'll be a cluster..

I was at the Lone Tree store at 9:30, this morning, supposedly a 'members only' gig...what a madhouse. A couple checkout lines ran the full length of the store.
They had some Winchester 55 gr .223...for $19.99/20...such a deal!
I was looking for a Garmin Nuvi 50LM GPS, they had them at $199.99, hell Walmart has them for $119. Even The Bargain Cave wanted $179 for a used one.
Asked three salespeople where the 'boonie' hats were...they had no idea what I was talking about. A camo'd soldier was standing nearby and said he knew what they were but hadn't seen any. I found a couple, but their catalog shows several styles...no joy.
They had a couple AR-15-looking rifles in a rack but couldn't get close enough to see any detail or pricing...a real mob. As with most new stores the aisles are too narrow. A couple guys in front of the rifle racks had buggies and not enough room to pass each other...they just stood there looking at each other.
At least their 'pre-Christmas' sale will be easier to get to than Sidney.
Their 'sale' prices are usually pretty good, but sure was underwhelming for a big 'grand opening'.
Next you'll tell me there's no Santa Claus... :(

Planned on going this morning. Then I saw they had a screaming deal on .223. Ammo was the only thing I was really interested in. Buying online from Cabela's and having it shipped to my home saved me about $20 because of the lower tax rate over buying it in the store.
Guess I'll just keep buying online and paying Park County taxes.

I was at the Thornton store today for the credit card invite. The checkout line was at the "45 minute wait" point by 11:00AM (they opened at 9:00AM). And by that time, there was no .22LR on the shelves even though they're limiting people to a max of 1 box of .22 (if you bought the 50 round boxes you could get two IIRC). I suppose it's possible they were going to bring out more but I didn't see it in the hour I was there.
I was planning on going there tomorrow for the grand opening to try and score one of the first 500 gift cards......and then I saw people camping out in the parking lot already (again, at 11:00AM today). Sooooooo....I figured there ain't nothin' I need so bad that I have to submit myself to such torture.
The store looks nice though. I'll enjoy shopping there once all of the silliness dies down.

Are there a bunch of people camped out already or is there a chance it will only be semi-crazy tomorrow morning?
Im heading over tomorrow for some clothing and camping related stuff, figure there won't be any ammo left. might just check it out and walk around and call it a day and just order the stuff online and pick it up later.

Was at the Lone Tree store this evening. Picked up 400 rounds of 308 hunting ammo. Great experience, prices was good on the hunting ammo. However ammo was flying off shelfs. Looked long and hard at the pistols. I would say average price was 10 percent over Green Mountain Guns prices. They did have one model of a Sig 1911 at a good price so snagged that, however will say I did not see to many good deals. Consignment area was full however no real good prices, and many of pistols were beaters. Since I was very broke in the end I stayed away from other temptations. However I am encouraged by my experience. Cabellas does run deals periodically so there is hope for us all. I do believe these stores will put some of the little guys out of business. The Green Mountains will do fine, while the 5280 will have to lower prices and run more deals.
There AR section was very slim pickens. I shuttered when I saw they had more AR s that had no flash suppressors than ones that did. Saw alot of Mini 14s being sold. No campers at 810pm,, people were coming and going like it was a normal day. Noticed that around the corner there was a mobile incident command center and lots of cops. Good luck everyone.

They had soft grand opening days for "friends and family" and "Cabela's Club" members.
Sounds like waiting as one of first 500 is going to be crazy. (Getting off at 830-9am even going straight over...)
Anyone happen to see if good/special pricing on stuff like Remington American Rifle/Savage's/Weatherby Vanguard?
I wonder if I can pick up 5.7x28 ammo there......
I am short of all calibers at this time.
The reason i went last night was I didn't notice I had an invitation (a credit app) waiting for me at home. Left at 9pm, rifles were ok prices, ammo was normal, nothing spectacular. But the line wrapped around the building already.

Besides the gift cards at the door I didn't hear anything that compelled me to even think about going to their grand openings. I haven't seen any fliers, any discounts, any 'doorbusters', just an outdoor sporting goods place opening. I could see this kind of event if it was one of their mega stores like in Sydney or something, but not just two decent sized retail stores. Hell, Bass Pro in Stapleton looks massive compared to these two stores.

They had some giveaways for the first 100 people or something like that, They also have a pretty big event surrounding the whole thing, with various outdoors celebs ect.
I went yesterday afternoon on the Cabelas club invitation thing they did and it was a fricken zoo then. I walked in, signed up for the 3 drawings they are doing, checked to see what they had for reloading components (jack squat except they did have quite a few primers on hand) and left. I won't set foot in there for probably a couple months until it settles down a bit.
Incidentally I had to go up through NE the night before and stopped in Sydney and they were just as well stocked and had about 15 cars in the lot got some primers at a decent price and no hassles.
I'd rather drive the extra 2 hours round trip to go to Sydney if I need something only they have vs dealing with the crowds.

So I got called back into the office right as I was pulling up to Bass Pro, but they were packed too. I don't know if they put out specials for this weekend, or if everybody that wanted to go to Cabela's decided to hell with that and went to Bass Pro, but there was so many more cars in the lot than normal. I was kind of stunned.
Just last night I CALLED Cabela's to place an order, and the words from the guy that took my order, "It looks like you're located not too far from our new LoneTree store, will you be making it to the grand opening?" And I was like "nope, for $5, I'll have the stuffed dropped off at my door and avoid the drive and the lines." Very glad I made the call. $5 and worth every penny just to avoid the crowd.

I'm sure that's the understatement of the century. Glad you were able to make it out of there alive! Haha

I was outside the Thornton location. Was insane.
Thanks to the forum member here, we decide not to "wait in line" to go to Cabela's. Instead, we decide to go to Sportmans' Warehouse at 84th & I25 to buy some ammo with TWO $10off for 50 purchase.
Thankfully, they had over 15 boxes of 223/556 PMC Bronze for $8.99, and SS197SR (5.7x28mm). We picked up 3 5.7x28 and 3 boxes of 223/556. We decided to buy 2 more boxes of 223, but it was already gone. Glad that we went to Sportsmen's and used two of the $10 off coupons. It was a fair deal. People at Sportsman's were talking about how crazy Cabelas' was, and they decide not to wait in line to buy stuff where they can buy at other retailers.
Before we went home, we decide to just check out how many people there are at Cabelas' Curiosity got me to just drive by inside the parking lot.
Here are some pictures.

I'm here at the Lone Tree store right now with my two little boys. I have my green Free Colorado shirt on. Say hi if anyone sees me.

Plenty of parking and not too hard to get around. Can't comment on reloading supplies since I know nothing about it. They had a bunch of .223 in all kinds of brands though.
We got a bit of ammo...some clothing and just looked around a bit.
I wore my Free Colorado shirt, and got a few compliments on it.

Actually you get free Chick Fil A for a year. I've done it twice.

I would've done it for a year supply of Chick-Fil-A , even IF I was working 65hr/week making $1.2mil/yr.

I drove by Thorton store on I25 earlier today and it would have been faster to drive to Nebraska and buy from one of those stores than to get in this one! If they had any ammo it will be gone by end of business today. It made the Tanner gun show lines look like the DMV. Line came out front door and wrapped around whole store and into parking lots. I will try the place out after christmas rush probably.
I totally don't understand folks camping out for the privilege of giving a retailer money. It makes me wonder how their time can be worth so little.

Yah Im with you on that. They were giving out gift certificates worth $25-$500 supposedly. I would have to be guaranteed and you need to add at least one zero to that number before I would be interested!

Did you all go to the same store i did??? I got home about an hour ago from the thornton store and it was just busy, nothing crazy like the pictures you guys posted. Parked about 10 spots away from the front door. walked right up to the ammo section, huge selection and they said they had even more in the back for this weekend. Im sure they had more than a thousand boxes of various 556/223 on hand, plus every other calibre you could want. They had people just standing behind the firearms counter waiting to help people look at rifles and handguns. waited in line about 3 minutes to check out.
Overall I was not impressed, only sell cabelas brand stuff, very small selection of gear. It was funny that there were more people in the gun/ammo section than in the rest of the store combined.

lonetree was crazy. 7 hours later and now Im sitting in front of Ikea so the boss can go look at a lamp.
Thanks to this thread letting me know there was parking I braved the Lone Tree store since it's close to work. The checkout line was also gone which is a much better piece of news to spread.
Well...it's an outdoors store. That's it. Even more confused by the pre-opening crowds now that I've seen it. It will be really nice to have around when it settles down. They really did choose a good location to fill a pretty big whole in the geographical market. The closest thing like it is Gander Mountain and thanks to traffic it's a no-go during the work week.

Stopped by after work and it wasn't very crowded at all

Ah, my mistake! I thought it was just a free sammich. I don't like their stuff well enough to camp out and then eat it for a year though.
But AFA Cabela's - I'm glad to have one close to Parker for reloading supplies, but that's probably it. I sure ain't waiting in line for nothing! Did that in 1977 for Led Zeppelin tickets.
I went to the Thornton opening today. What a fluster F$%*. So many people. But had lots of m196 from 6 to 10 bucks a box. And some colts for 799. They had great stock of powder and primers for you reloading guys. Over all, it was a blast. Oh and talked to the firearm manager and transfer fee is 20 bucks, not like gander MNT for 70.
Just got back from Lone Tree. They got a crap ton of optics, but not so much in the way of rifle and especially pistol selection. Pretty disapponted. Pistol ammo shelves were just like any other GS, empty. Good supply of reloading accessories except projectiles. Same stuff OOS. They did have Lapua brass in .223, .308 and .338 Lapua which was kind of cool.

Me neither, I want and stood by the barricade in front of store for a hour just to check it out. Broncos cheerleaders, etc. then left.

Gonna wait until the craziness subsides; I'm pretty sure Cabela's will be there next week.
I went yesterday around 3 and it was a fricken mad house. Still dropped a few hundo and had some fun!

You went with her @ Cabellas???
You should have known there'd be Hell to pay...[dig]
If anyone is going by Lone Tree today can you do me a favor and see if they still have the 10' X 14' Kodiak tent? The tents are right by the entrance and the couple Kodiak's they had are in big boxes ~3'x1'x1' sitting next to the big Kelty. They had one 10X14 at 8:45 last night but the kids were getting tired so we had to leave without getting it. Thanks in advance.
Dropped by Thornton during the middle of the lunch hour. Parking was pretty easy to find near the front door. Reasonably crowded but still well-stocked in most areas I walked through, including ammo, powder & primers. Only 1 person ahead of me in line so check-out was a breeze. Probably more crowded tomorrow but far from the mad-house that the last two days sounded like.

That alone is a big improvement over Bass Pro. I compare going to the stapleton bass pro to going to walmart. Complete with circus freaks and horrible staff.

I went yesterday afternoon. It was busy but they had plenty of cashiers so purchases went fast. Handgun ammo seemed overpriced but I picked up 200 rounds of 223 for a little under 50 cents a round. Not too bad for Remington UMC. They appeared to be out of 9 mm and 22lr already. They appeared to have a good selection of handguns but wasnt impressed by selection of tactical shotguns or rifles. The selection of ARs went from lowend Bushmaster to high end POF and nothing in between it appeared. I picked up a pair of Pmag 10s as well. Overall I feel they have better selection than Sportmans, Basspro, or Gander Mtn. on guns but that isnt saying much. i will probably go back in there since thortan is right down the road from me.

Had a friend working the RMEF BB Gun set up there today. She worked the AM shift and said they had 9 busses going back & forth from the overflow parking "across the highway" continuously. She said it was a madhouse.
I don't think I'll be visiting or at least a month...when things calm down a bit.

I agree. Of course by the time we roll in there Ginsue all the shelves will be bare and it will be just like walking into Sportsman's Warehouse only a shorter drive (for me atleast).

We survived the madhouse today. The main lot was posted as full, and the overflow lot was insanity. We slipped thru the cracks and got up to the main lot, found numerous spots open and parked. Got inside and saw the insanity. They had primers at $39.99/1k, no powder at all. Check out line stretched to the back of the store, so we left. Gander on I225 had some primers, and Basspro had primers, but 2 card limit. They had greendot powder left, but had a decent amount this am they said. One thing worth noting, they must have had a "coming to jesus" moment at Bass Pro. We had staff come up to us, and make sure we were doing ok, if we needed help etc. This was up in the gun area. That in the past was one of the worst areas of the store, with the "worse than specialty sports" attitude pre-cabelas. Guess when you aren't the only show in town, or thought you were, your job suddenly takes on new importance.
