View Full Version : Another One Crosses the Rainbow Bridge

One of our favorite adopted pups, Nadia, apparently had a stroke yesterday evening around 8pm. We took her to the emergency vet who tried a few things but her condition worsened. We made the decision to put her to rest around 2:30 this morning. She was somewhere around 15 or 16 years old, we don't know for sure. She came into our lives by chance about 9 years ago.
Nadia always seemed grateful that we even paid her any mind. She demanded only one thing from us...a belly rub now and then. Other than that she seemed to be very content with her lot in life and she lived every day like there was no tomorrow. Aside from belly rubs her passion in life was hunting and she was relentless. There's no doubt the chipmunks on and around Mt Bailey are rejoicing this morning even while we grieve. But there's also no doubt they'll remember the Nadi Dog with fear and reverence in their hearts for she was the worthiest of foes.
The Nadi Dog was a good one and we'll miss her.
Hail, Nadia!

Sorry man - losing a dog is like losing a family member. We put down our border collie Yankee a month ago - was very tough. Hang in there.

RIP Nadia.
I have no idea how I'm going to take it when mine passes on. When the last one passed (due to cancer), I was pretty tore up about it.
Good on you for adopting.

Hail Nadia! We went through the same thing at Christmas last year so I can feel your pain. I never read the Rainbow Bridge poem until a few days after and I sat in my truck crying like there was no tomorrow. In fact as I write this now my eyes are welling up with just the thought. May Nadia make friends with my dog Missy and the others from this forum.

One of the only times a grown man can cry openly without shame, the loss of a good dog. Heal your heart Carl.

Sad to hear the news.
There are chipmunks on the other side of Rainbow Bridge.
Good hunting Nadia.

What a sweet looking little girl. And I have no doubt that she was more than just "content" with her lot in life; she scored the jackpot when she found her way into your home! It doesn't matter how many we lose, they each leave a hole. I'm sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear this--take comfort in knowing you gave her the best life you could. That's all that is expected of you and you fulfilled it.
RIP. Sorry for your loss. :(

So sorry for your loss BG.
Sorry for your loss, always a heartbreaker and no matter how long you had together it never seems like enough time.
For those who haven't read it and may not know what the reference to The Rainbow Bridge is:
Just this side of Heaven is a place called The Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
that pet goes to The Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run
and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our
friends are warm and comfortable.All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one
suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver.
Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life,
but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

I'd say it was allergies, but that's crap and everyone knows it. I just hate it when a buddy like that dies.

Condolences :(
That's sad, Karl.
I'd bet she could not have asked for a better life, then with your family.
So sorry for your loss Bailey. Glad you have 9 years of love, friendship and memories to remember her.
My condolences too, sir. I'll be crushed when it's time for one of our beagles. Not looking forward to that day at all.
So sorry for your loss, Carl.
Sounds like she was another winner of the doggy lottery, just like my girls are.

I am never surprised by how moved we are when one of our own losses one of their loved pets. Its seeks volumes of the character of the members here. Sorry for your loss. After you move forward you can be the big dog daddy for another dog in need.

Sending some prayers, sorry for your loss!
I know the feeling all too well, and even though it was their time to go and they are no longer in pain, it always hurts us so much.
Prayers to you and your family. Hail Nadia! You know Carl, they day you pass on, you are going to have one heck of a greeting at those pearly gates.
Oh man, sorry for you loss Bailey and family.
I really dread the day I have to say goodby to my little guy. That's the ONLY bad thing about being gifted with a great dog, is knowing that they won't live as long of a life as we might. It's awesome that you gave her a great life for the last 9 years!

Of all the notable words ever uttered by great people those are my favorite.
One of the best things about this site is the number of dog lovers and their understanding of what the loss of a 4-legged family member means. Thanks.

I hate these threads. In fact, I'd be thrilled if no more ever had to be posted. Each time I see these I know a member of our family lost a member of their family, and that really sucks.
BG, my heart goes out to you brother. Know that your buddy is happily frolicking in fields like a pup again.
Condolences BG, and RIP Nadia.

It's a tough separation at the end between man (family) and dog you were part of her pack for 9 years, thats a win on both ends.
You will probably fall into a trap of another pup or rescue dog, trust me, they know a sucker when they see them. So sorry about your loss.
