The pros go after folding knives:

My boss at Pizza told me I couldn't bring my Boker to work with me because it's a weapon. I told her it's a frikken tool. I told her to go ahead and fire me because I don't leave my house without. Go ahead and fire your fastest driver because of some BS company rule against protecting yourself.
I still have a job.

"Pocket knife" means a knife with a blade that folds into the handle and which is suitable for carrying in the pocket."
Thank goodness my Benchmade Infidel doesn't "fold" into the handle. I guess my knife is legal.

I've seen some really stupid laws in Hawaii but that really takes the cake. I just wrote to my relatives about that one asking what idiot wanted to make the Aloha Council Scout Shop an illegal enterprise.

So, I suppose a multi-tool (which encompasses a folder knife blade) would meet the criteria and thus, be illiegal were this to pass. That would then get most It folks and appliance repairmen I've ever enountered into court.
What do you expecdt from the state that refuses to uphold the Constitution and release the birth records for our new President to remove doubt as to the Chosen One's citizenship eligibility to assume the position He now occupies?
It's thread topics like this that make me realize I need barf bags next to my computer. I really can't understand how I am still surprised by the stupidity, audacity, and sheer lunacy of our elected officials at all levels of government.

Hawaii like England should be an interesting case study as they are both island states. When their totalitarian weapons laws fail to reduce the crime rate they will have no one to blame the way New York blames Virginia for their utter failures.
As an update, now the Obama administration is apparently trying to ban transport of 80% of pocket knives across state lines: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=100679
So they are trying to ban a simple folding knife like a buckknife?
I carry a knife because its not a weapon. I carry a gun because its a weapon. A knife is not a weapon its a straw shortener, thread remover and a flat head screw driver it also works as a box opener (when car keys aren't available) its a multi tool. In a pinch I suppose it could be used as a weapon if you really needed one. But I break more knifes going thru the other uses listed then I ever do useing it as a weapon. Banning the posession of a knife, because its a weapon is as crazy as it gets.
how about screwdrivers?
At the rate they are going they will be fine... As long as you can demonstrate a genuine use for having each one, register and pay a tax on each one, all of them must be over 16 inches long for flathead, 18" for philips head if they require a handle on them. And you can't use torx or allen head, because those are military/police heads and a normal person doesn't need a torx head when they only have a military use....
If you word it just right using the standard rhetoric (their to dumb to know better handbook) you can make anything look bad.

This is no joke--you can elect to put your head in the sand while your rights are taken away, you still have that choice. Here is the official wording from the horse's mouth (or perhaps the other end): http://www.kniferights.org/U%20S%20Customs%20Proposed%20Ruling%20-%20Assisted%20Opening%20Knives.pdf
I wonder what they expect someone do if they are out hiking alone and they get their hand stuck in some rocks?

I've lived in Hawaii for 6 years, and yes I can see why there doing this, specially downtown. Alot of Tourist get robbed by knife point in Waikiki. And theres still some locals (though not as many now) That still don't like Holli's on the island.

So... the problem is with the people. I can with a 100% guarantee that if you set a knife on a downtown street that no one would be robbed by the knife alone.
Fucking liberals wanting to ban shit instead of getting rid of those who commit crime and enforcing laws.

lets ban grease and cars.. those two are the cause of most deaths in this country. I swear i am about to move back to Singapore at the rate this thing going.
I'm thinking Montana. Maybe they will pass another house bill stating that all knives that a made in Montana are not subject to federal law.
In fact.... Montana needs to pass a law that Say's anything made in Montana is not subject to federal law and start making everything. :D

I shouldn't be surprised - but I am, that someone has the preposterous notion that a pocket knife actually presents a valid threat to the safety and security of a community enough to sponsor a bill to ban them completely.
Just 50 years ago you would have been hard pressed to find a man who didn't carry a pocket knife in their pants pocket and we had considerably less violent crime back then.
Yes, this "civilized world" we live in is growing increasingly violent.
Our Founding Fathers, in their "Declaration of Independence" to their oppressive government of the time, identified 3 God-given ""unalienable" Rights: Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. I believe that we still hold these items essential in our lives.
What if the increase in violence has something to do with the fact that the more our lives are controlled by government, the less people believe they have Liberty or that they have the ability to pursue Happiness. Maybe the two items have nothing to do with one another. Then again, we do have the most oppressive government since we answered to a King and just look a the number of prescriptions for anti-depressants being written every day.
Instead of asserting more control, perhaps our government could let us live our lives ourselves so that we can experience our own failures and successes. Maybe then no one would feel that an all-out ban on pocket knives is necessary.

Very well said Ginsue. What I cannot tolerate is the notion that the right to defend myself with my tool should be severely restricted because someone else improperly used the same type of tool. This is the argument the left is using right now: some bad people are buying 'assault rifles' and sending them to Mexico to people who use them to murder other people. The logic is so twisted and perverse. Why not go after those criminals instead of taking away the right of ordinary citizens to buy and use one?
I will answer my own question: When the ordinary citizen no longer has the right to defend himself, he is fully dependent on government for his protection. He is no longer a free man, but rather a dependent serf owing fealty to the government.
Believe it or not this is an attempt to get at the 2nd Amendment rights.
How? ... do you ask.
Simple. They are trying to make carrying a pocket knife a felony. If you get caught with one and charged you will have a felony on your record. You can not "legally" own a firearm if you have a felony.
That's why I get so irritated when people say stupid shit like... well... I don't care as long as I can keep my 22LR. Do not be so willing to give up your rights. ANY of them. Nothing in this country passes into a law or bill with out having some underlying bullshit motive.
They will sneak shit into a bill that has nothing to do with the original idea.
Losing any of our rights is the path to losing all of them one way or the other.

I don't know the age of everyone on this site, but If the Liberals and bull shit parents were around when I was growing in grade school they would have tried to put me on every fucking type of medication there was. I was a hyper active kid, had an imagination, liked to dress up in camo's and play war with my friends (grew up on military bases all my life) and used to get into minor trouble like any young kid will.
The government wants to take away parenting. They have for years because of some bad parents that went overboard and beat the shit out of their kids. Now you can't lay a hand on your kids or risk being reported or charged. Put them on medication, have them in sessions talking to some quack job doctor. This is the same as everything else coming from the liberal movement. They think that we can not run our lives and need to be protected from everything. Don't punish the few that have gone way overboard but put some bullshit law in place to make it illegal for everyone regardless of your personal actions.
Obama said the other day to reporters that he doesn't understand why people think the government wants to run everything. WHAT? They now want to take over medicine. They have taken control over the automobile industries, the "Green", "Global warming" shit they are now wanting to pass will give the government control over everyone and the way they do bussiness and operate. Obama said he had to much to do to run all these things.... like Iraq, Iran, and North Korea. Funny he said that since he hasn't done a fuckign thing with any of them.
Holl shit I think I could go off for hours today. Sorry about that, I must get more [Coffee] in my system :D
