I've got one. Not really a range blaster unless you only want to shoot about 20-30 rounds and have a sore shoulder. Not a terrible deal with that price but you can order them for $70 online and if you have your C&R you can do a little bit better than that.
overall really good guns and plenty of kick. really powerful!
Keep an eye on Big 5, now and then they have them on sale.. Been awhile though.. They seem to be stuck on the 91/30 here recently...
the M44 a.k.a. the Russian flame thrower [Muaha]
I manage a Big 5. No M44s right now, I ordered a couple about a month ago, but very hard to come by chain-wide right now. Most stores, like mine, only have the Hungarian Steyr, the 91/30, the SKS, and the "new" VZ24 Czech 7mm Mauser. My dad has the M38, same as the M44 but w/o the bayonet. Solid rifles, simple and easy to use. But not much fun to shoot a lot as mentioned above.

I have a 91/30 and M44. The M44 is great at dusk and night for it's muzzle flash. Scotties on Colfax has a couple for $125. I want to get another, but I just put brakes on both cars.
It packs a punch, but as long as I'm not bench shooting I can shoot all day. Both my Mosins make a lot of noise, it's best to pull them out after everyone has been shooting .223, 7.62X39, and handguns to get their attention.

I second that. when I pull mine out at the range, everyone stops firing to see what the hell I'm shooting!

This gun was my wife's first and so far only gun purchase. She got it for my birthday. I love shooting it and yep it bruises my shoulder. She did get it at Big5 when they had them.

I have 11 M-44's, 2 M-38's, 4 91/30's, they are too much fun. You want attention at the range? Get 5 or 6 buddies all lined up w/ 5rds loaded and all ripid fire at the same time! Some folks will actually pack up and leave! Better yet, do the same thing at dusk, WOW!

I have a few M-44's. I've shot a Polish one quite a bit and have found that it shoots to point of aim when the bayonet is extended. I got some looks while shooting it but was on target. Quite a fireball.

What Size round does it fire? Ive been considering picking one up. Are they pretty accurate?

Pick me up one as well and I'll go shoot with you all day.
By the way, when are we going to go shooting?

7.62X54R.. Between the M91/30, M38 and, the M44, that I have the M38 is the more accurate.. I can hit clays at 90-100 yards with it.. Not bad for a 67 y/o rifle..

I love my m44. I second the bayonet. The rifles were actually zeroed witht he bayonets extended, so they wont hit the broad side of a barn with it folded. Took me awhile to figure that out.

LOL, I'm actually dead set on getting a Mosin Nagant as my next rifle. Just got to find one with a good bore.
PM'd on shooting.

Can anyone provide links to any well priced nagants? I dont like the idea of the bayonet, so Im thinking an m-38, but I'll just see whats available.

M-38's are tuff to find, bset bet is stumbling onto one at a gunshow. Or maybe a pawnshop. Gunbroker has 4 right now, but you wont get one for under 200.00.

I saw an M-38 a few weeks ago at a store in Calhan for $150:
Liberty Shooting Sports (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&q=liberty+calhan,+co&ie=UTF8&sll=39.035512,-104.296666&sspn=0.006295,0.006295&latlng=39035512,-104296666,5230583382748813792&ei=hWUISuWbD6e-jgPww4ly&cd=1)
Don't know if they still have it, but it's a good price for an M-38 IMO. They are great guns, by the way, a lot of fun! Just get the rubber butt pad for it and your shoulder will thank you! :) (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&q=liberty+calhan,+co&ie=UTF8&sll=39.035512,-104.296666&sspn=0.006295,0.006295&latlng=39035512,-104296666,5230583382748813792&ei=hWUISuWbD6e-jgPww4ly&cd=1)

I'll have to start shopping around. Either that or go with the m-44
How are the 91/30's? I'll probably end up buying a different stock either way..
thanks BTW

The 91/30s tend to be more accurate (if you get a good one) IMO, but I would want to cut the barrel down, because it's LONG and that's an added expense. Best deals on those I saw were actually at the gun show here in the Springs (I think they were $120). They have them cheap on J&G, but you can't see them, pay for shipping and the transfer.
BTW, if you go the online route, I know of a guy who does $20 transfers. Anyone on the forums here do tranfers around that price? I would like to deal with someone here if I go that route down the line.
A great resource on Mosin Nagants is 7.62x54r.net (http://7.62x54r.net/). If you like reading, War of the Rats is a great book featuring these guns. I love Mosin Nagants and there history (if you haven't noticed) and will probably buy some more eventually. :)
