The hospital's media relations spokesperson, Kim Kobel, says the man was in the cafeteria Tuesday afternoon when he reached into his pocket to pay for his food and accidentally fired the gun he had in his pocket.
The bullet went into his leg and he had to be taken to the emergency room for treatment. Before being transferred, hospital security recovered the gun.
Kobel says no one else was hurt in the incident and that police are doing a full investigation to "understand what happened and to insure the safety of our patients, visitors and staff."
Kobel also says she believes the man had a concealed weapons permit.
The man's name and condition were not released.
