View Full Version : Pain pills
I hate the them! My alarm goes off every 4 hours to take them. The past 7 weeks have been pretty rough. Multiple surgeries and 8 days in the hospital. Lesson learned is to not break your leg, ankle and elbow all at once.

While I'm sorry to hear you're hurt... I gotta bust your balls....... No story? Really? [fail]
Ouch! Might be too soon but, consider acupuncture later.
Just connecting the dots with your avatar....motorcycle crash? Happy to see you're on the mend. Hang in there.
Stay on top of he pain man, good luck

Oh, c'mon. Might as well break them all at once and get it all over with at once. It would suck to string them out one after another!
Take care and mend quickly!

My thought as well but talk about unlucky. I have done a few rides down the asphalt back in my Karting days. playing ragdoll @ 100 is no fun but the worst I did was break an ankle.[Flower]
Sorry for the lack of details. I crashed racing the Pikes Peak international hill climb. It was the second year of the road being fully paved. I raced it last year and got 3rd in my class. This year I qualified 2nd on my Gsxr 600. I'll be ok in time but the next couple of months will be rough.
I tucked the front in third gear probably doing 90ish and crashed rather hard.
I slid into a concrete lined ditch feet first.
There is video of my crash a spectator took on YouTube but I have not watched it yet.
The big injuries are Compound fracture of left femur above the knee, torn tendons left ring finger, right heel is broke in several places (calcaneus fracture),right elbow joint is shattered and right wrist is fractured below the elbow.
I have had 4 surgeries so far and it's possible for one more.
I am very lucky my injuries were not worse and glad to be alive. Race officials think moisture on the paint stripes and road temp were factors but ultimately it was rider error. I made a mistake.
i have roadraced the past 17 years and the hill climb is one of the coolest events I ever raced.
Here is a pic from the race a fed minutes before the crash.
Is this it?

Looking at possible crash vids in here that might be YOU, or maybe not......... I admire your gonadness in getting 3rd in your class last year, and I pray for you to heal quickly from your injuries during this years attempt.
The pic you posted from just before your incident, showed some bad assness happening....looking at that rear tire, you certainly were *on it* throttle wise. I'm no bike expert though.
I didn't know they paved the whole thing. Long ago, I wanted to run a super stock class up there, but never got around to it. I raced at Colo Nat Speedway for several years back in the early to mid 90's....and I miss racing very much.
Get well, brother.

Post #14 is Mike's crash, heal up Mike!
hope for the fast recovery.
Hey guys thanks for the positive thoughts and prayers. Sorry for being vague on which video is the one I'm in, like I mentioned I still have not watched it. Dingleberns dad I'd the guy who painted my race bike. He does cars or bikes, so if you needs really nice quality paint job he's the man.
its hard not to be positive with my wife around. She supports my racing 100% before, during and after the crash. She is my best friend & my wife :). Also I'm lucky to have a great job that is very supportive about racing and my boss is a really good friend of 13 years.
If you search Mike Applehans you will also find last years race video from my gopro. I was #125 last year and #250 this year. I had two gopros on this year but the front camera was destroyed. I have not watched the rear camera video yet. I will some day but for now the crash is very vivid in my mind.
I never lost consciousness which the flight for life crew thought was impressive for some reason. I told one of the flight nurses that asked about if i got knocked out.I told her i didn't really hit my head. She said no, I mean from the pain. Then she said you do know that your femur bone is sticking out of your skin about a inch! I told her I didn't know that and to please cover my eyes because I didn't want to see it. That being said my wife took pictures of everything at the ER. Hell when it was time to take the 34 staples out of my leg the nurse asked my wife if she wanted to remove one, she did all 34!
Racing is the thing I love to do and have been lucky enough to do for a long time. With support from family, friends and guys like Jim at T-Fog motorsports (Tfogger) on here. Life is short, do what you love to do while you can! I will race again but will wait to fully healed next year. After that maybe I'll race a legend car at Colorado national speedway or who knows what.
Mike
Get well. Take it slow. Glad you are still here.

Get well, but don't rush it. Let things heal right.
I assume your scooter will be needing a new paint job?
Damn, you are lucky. Don't mean that in an unkind way. But damn, you are lucky!

I have not seen the bike but it's basically a total loss, new paint might help though :)
i agree I am very very lucky! If I don't hit feet first I'm probably paralyzed or dead.

After I heard you crashed I wondered if any of the footage from the gopro you got from me turned out. Glad to hear you are doing well and have a positive attitude, sounds like recovery will be a long road.
