Hello group buy on some of this stuff?

Gut wrenching to think of so much perfectly good equipment being scrapped in place. No use for MRAPS? They think we'll never fight hajjii's again? I mean we may not be at war, but a lot of thise could be stored inactively. (IE not maintained.) I guess even that's too costly with all the budget slashings. (Funny since in some states they want to abandon tanks but senators were insisting they spend the money on local jobs to refurbish them.)

If nothing else they could be trying to use some of that for PR/recuiting/training. Decorate bases. Whatever.

A million dollars each to build, wow, some serious bill padding going on. Huge buildings that were never used that are now going to be used by the taliban. There are few in the world as good at wasting money as the USA. The more you look at how much moey and lives were sunk into that area just to leave and have it turn back into what it was before is staggering.

it's a simple cost/benefit analysis. If it costs* $50k to ship it home, but it costs $45k to destroy in place and build a new one, then it makes financial sense to leave it and render it unserviceable.

Here's the weird thing: vehicles and actual combat equipment is only a fraction of the costs considered.

Yeah but how much would individuals be willing to pay to get some of this stuff. If they would cover the shipping costs plus some then that is what should be done. We paid for all that shit after all....

Hmmm.. what would it cost to add an MRAP to the stable..

I'd be curious what the powers that be think the ROI of that conflict was...

We could all pitch in for a few and drive them to Pawnee for some range days. Car pooling in a convoy is ecologically sound. Get some funny looks in the HOV lane too.

A lot of that equipment is probably in far-flung bases in the high mountains where road access is terrible and they'd have to lift all of that stuff out by helicopter.

It's no wonder they're not going to bring it back.

It is a waste, but that's par for the course when it comes to stuff like this.

Everything I have read has said they WONT sell mraps to us. They plan on destroying most. Im guessing if they do bring some home, they will only be for the continued militarization of our police forces. They dont want law abiding, freedom loving Americans to have MRAPS. They know what the future holds, Im sure.

MRAPS are crap anyway. It's all about the M-ATV.

That being said, we closed down a FOB back in February and you wouldn't BELIEVE the stuff we just threw away/burned.

So the military uses taxpayer dollars to buy all this stuff, then turns around a sells the stuff back to the same taxpayer who funded it in the first place?

Or we could build starships and change the face of warfare altogether...I mean it would make all other weapons obsolete!

Supposedly selling this stuff to civies results in a lot of lawsuits. I remember after the first gulf war a lot of items ended up back home and sold at surplus shops. Humvees particularly were sold and when they fell apart and caused accidents there were lawsuits against the government since they had the things built. I guess they don't want to go down that path anymore. I remember reading that all Humvees are now to be taken apart and their frames cut into quarters so they can never be used.

I did my brigade's FEP/FERP planning. I know exactly what got burned, shredded, BIP'd, thrown away, turned over to ANSF, and left for the locals.
